I had the LPX in my cart for quite some time and almost pulled the trigger many times until one faithful day on Facebook when I spotted a new LPP for sale at a local pawn shop. I ended up trading my Akai MPD218 and Launchpad Mini towards it which left me with a $50 balance! So I got a new Launchpad Pro for $50 🙏🏻

I love it. The pads have great sensitivity, the built in sequencer is awesome for my hardware gear, of course it works great with Ableton and the extra banks are fun for building my own control surfaces. Using Components on my laptop is a small detour, although I wish Components worked on mobile. I’ve tried accessing it online with a couple of iOS apps that are online MIDI compatible, but no dice of course 😂

I don’t mind jumping on my laptop to edit templates or on mobile: assigning stuff in apps like Koala or BM3. Atom 2 integration has always be fun and occasionally I’ll reinstall the Launchpad app to play my own packs.

Have you tried MidiSynth Control with your LPP3?

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/midisynth-control/id1366849280

I downloaded it awhile back, but I don’t remember why uninstalled it 😂

Do you use it and what are your thoughts?
Is it comparable to Components or surpass it?

I don't use it since I found out about it only recently, and have already built out my custom pages a while back. But it seems like the best solution to do everything on iOS.

It’s like having components on your iPad. Straight forward custom layouts without a PC/Mac. Great for LP’s, circuit and a bunch of other controllers. Highly recommended for when you want a bunch of different custom layouts to control a few different apps.

I have 4 page layouts for Drambo and Loopy, 2 pages for BM3 and Koala, etc. Without the app I’d have to constantly hop back to a computer and decide which 4 I can have at any given time which is dumb.lol

Can I map launchpad via iPhone or iPad? Colours,cc etc.

What about cable wise? Launchpad to app. App to launchpad

Gained a tablet for internet. Seems silly buying a laptop just for this. I can cycle to shop when it arrives.

Yep. Everything Component can do on your ipad/iPhone. Once you’ve sent/saved your custom layout to LPX you can close the app. Doesn’t have to be running. The only thing i dont like is that it doesn’t recall the layouts you set in Components so basically use one or the other is best although you can save all your layouts in either application so it isn’t the biggest deal i guess.

Does app pass through cck. The midi cable to launchpad.

Does it send the data to launchpad and can forget about app?

I can buy and return app anyway. Not return after mapping. In case it doesn't work.

    Thanks

It is like any MIDI based app on the iPad. You just connect your Launchpad via cck or hub as you would to use it with any app.

The Launchpad has a pretty hefty power draw. The Apple power adapter does not provide enough juice. I either use a powered hub into the cck or the cck fed by a better charger than Apple’s.

It's connected via audio4c hub. Anyway to route midi?

Also connected via cck and midi cable from cck to launchpad. Obviously no power.

Do you either need a USB c iPad or a PSU with another adapter that has a power socket?

Does power and midi actually send via non USBC cable?

Or powered usb hub that's connects launchpad and also sends midi?

I think Launchpad X/Pro x MidiFighter Twister/Intech may be the best controller combo for ipad. Although, I’m liking what I’m seeing in the Presonus Atom controllers. Any experience with those @ipadbeatmaking ?

Or, is Akai’s APC 40 the best of both worlds in one device? Thats one I haven’t tried yet. Historically I’m not the biggest fan of Akai pads for drumming but they did get it right on Push and Force. I’m guessing APC40 has scale, chord and drumming mode. Anyone have both to contrast and share thoughts?

LPPMK3 with MFT or LPPMK3 with XLControl by Novation?

Dude. Just buy this mf and plug it in. You’re about to confuse me so i cant use it either.lol😂

Probably just keep laptop or buy better from eBay. This tablet is a bit annoying. The launchpad is bit niche for me now also but will keep for now.

    Thanks.

If you have a Launchpad, the 12.99 for the unlock in midi synth control is some of the best money you'll spend. You never will have to use components on the desktop again to set it up, and it's 10x faster to work in than the desktop.

Edit: provided your model is supported.

I've got the ATOM SQ but I don't like the pads for playing instruments so it stays in the box most of the time lol

I've heard the APC40 doesn't have velocity sensitivity and is more for live performance vs beat creation but idk. Seems the launchpad X/Pro3 is a hard act to follow

  • Thanks to positive words here, I just purchased MidiSynth Control for my Launchpad X, and I agree that if you’re using a Launchpad X with your iOS device, it’s no brainer. It’s so cool to be able to easily build a library of task-specific presets, and be able to create, modify, send them without needing to go back to the computer.

(Also, as others have mentioned, the LaunchPad X and NanoKontrol go well together. I use the NanoKontrol for track management and playhead control, and the Launchpad for clip launching, note input, and basically everything else… the two make a good pair).

Thanks for that info about the SQ pads. I was literally about to grab one but the size and layout of pads was really giving me pause. I think I may still grab the Atom drum pad as I’ve heard those pads are nice, the form factor is even smaller than MpD and I like that it has the transport and more mapable buttons than MPD218 which is a pretty great Koala controller.

The Atom line is a great value overall I think. I just wish they went the Launchpad x/pro route with the pads on the sq since they look 👀 🎹 so playable. They’re more in the mpc feel spectrum which is good for drumming, and just ‘ok’ to me for playing instruments. However If you’re also a studio one user, I think it really adds value/use there.

All in all, it’s looking like Novation has it with Launchpad. I just wish they’d update the launch control series already.

Agreed. I also wish we could get a circuit looking controller, with Bluetooth, Battery, knobs, pads. It’d be perfect. Like a little Push 2 without screens.

And I’m thinking MFT is a better long term investment than intech. Seems much more powerful. With intech I wish they would’ve used Bluetooth midi and a battery pack, seems like a wasted opportunity to really set the market on fire.

And another thing I’ve learned is that long term I can’t trust magnetic 🧲 connectors. The Roli stuff have left me with misfires and dropouts, when linking a few, at the dna connector point after years of having them.

Wait, there’s no Bluetooth or battery in intech controllers 😳. That can’t be right bro lmao. If so that’s absurd. .

Intech in usb-c bus powered and tethered.

  • Looks like MidiSynth Control does not support the LP Pro3, is that correct? Only the LP X?

Yeah it be kinda weird not passing the power through the magnet.

Also makes sense to begin with just a wired version. More stable, and as @AlmostAnonymous alluded to, a great economic choice in the anorexic yet pricey midi knob controller market.

Many of Roli and to a lesser extent Korg nano studio collections’ early negative reviews involved shady Bluetooth connection.

I’m sure they’ll have Bluetooth devices soon if the initial units are quality. Considering they don’t have much competition they can take their time and get it right.

It is powered through the magnet! Only one block is needed to power connected blocks.
