  • I've never run into any LUMbeat problems.

Would pay extra for auv3 updates though

For me it’s the midi issues, why put it if it doesn’t work in AUM

What MIDI issues and which drummer(s)? There was a round of updates many months ago that addressed sending MIDI to the apps so that you can send MIDI from AUM to them without an intermediary like Audiobus.

I can get most apps to talk to each other and I do love the sound and rhythms of Lumbeat apps but I would welcome any help in getting Hammerhead into Future Drummer. What is the secret sauce?

Do you mean have notes from Hammerhead triggering notes of Future Drummer? I don't have FutureDrummer but some time in the past year it seems that Luis removed the ability to have their individual hits triggered by incoming MIDI notes.

Yes, midi out of Hammerhead to trigger the sounds in any of his drum apps. They all have midi in and out options so they’re there for what purpose?

Take a look at the MIDI configuration page for his apps -- you will see many commands and functions that can be triggered by MIDI input. The apps are designed as sort of AI drummers and the MIDI in is for controlling the drummers.

  • The note map in the midi section has values, can’t they be triggered by an other midi source?

Instead of creating yet another new app, I’d really appreciate it if Luis would simply spend that time fixing the many, many issues people here on the forum have expressed over the many years.

I really don’t see that as being too much to ask.

I love his creations, but sadly the unresolved issues will keep me from purchasing any more of his releases.

    Totally agree with this.

I think he took out the ability to trigger the individual sounds in those apps that use the "new" (which may be a year old or so now) framework. Before that time, all (most?) the apps used to have a Sound Module switch. When that switch was on, the apps received individual notes and just acted like a drum ROMPLER.

As best as I can tell, the current notemapping corresponds to outgoing notes.

Maybe there is some secret way to get the apps to work like they used to in Sound Module mode, but if there is I don't know of anyone that has figured out how to do it.

Well the whole reason I purchased HIS iBassist app was for it to synch with HIS drummer apps. I dunno, I guess perhaps I’m the only one who would find something like that actually useful?

Anyway, I don’t want to place a speed bump on his next new app lovefest, so I’ll leave it at that.

I have the same frustrations with ibassist and the drummer apps, much as I like the drum apps.

Do you have issues with drummer apps besides working with iBassist?

I’ve never had any success using the lumbeat apps as a midi module with midi in, 9but they seem to have removed that, unless I imagined it in the first place ?//?) I tend to layer and use several percussion sources, the Lumbeats are great as you get variations and fills and sound good to me, but they need a bit of Patterning, or drumjam, or elastic drums or dpp etc etc to make them more interesting

  • And this is my point. AU solves a lot of these problems. Fingers crossed for this new app!

  • The drummer apps that have been updated and no longer have the Sound Module switch don’t respond to Midi notes to trigger the drums anymore.
They still can receive Midi for control purposes, but not drum triggering.

Reggae Drummer, Mideast Drummer, Brazilian DM, and Afro-Latin DM still have the Sound Module switch, and still can be played by an external Midi source.

Rock DM, Soft Drummer, Funk Drummer, Jazz Drummer, and Future Drummer are not able to be played by external Midi sources (as of the latest update 6/19/21).

For syncing the Drummers with iBassist in AUM, Link does the job for me. Other hosts like Cubasis 3 may not support Link, so a work-around needs to be devised.
In Cubasis 3, when using the Drummers, you can simply disable Link, and then they will respond to IAA host-sync. But iBassist doesn’t respond to IAA sync, and I cannot figure out how to get it to respond to Cubasis Midi clock either, so it seems Link is the only option for syncing iBassist.

The best solution I have found to using iBassist and a Drummer app in Cubasis3, when trying to get the apps to start together, is to turn on Link in the Lumbeat apps with the start/stop option enabled. Make a Cubasis Midi track with the note G2 at the point where you want to start the apps. Send this Midi to the Lumbeat Drummer app to trigger its play/stop toggle via Midi, which then triggers iBassist to start via Link.
The Drummer and iBassist play together, but you still have to deal with the Link sync quantum to get it perfect. It always starts near the correct bar marker, but it is hard to get it to consistently start exactly at the correct bar marker.

  • @CracklePot @espiegel123 thanks to you both for the clarification. While I wish that all the apps allowed clean and consistent midi in they do sound great, thanks!

I don't believe they have state saving. They have livesets that you can recall and trigger via midi. So, you could use midi to get things into a known state.
