For info. What would be better. The pitsburgh with its controller or an ocoast, control, strega. Seems like the o control might be better than the pitsburghs. The strega as sort of effects, plus some patching, plus sensors. The pitsburgh itself is probably better than the ocoast. Probably more oscilators and more patching. The MN setup seems a bit more performence orientated. The pitsburg might be able to be sequenced whilst the pads still do something. You could add effects. Thats my knowledge.

There is no objective 'better' -- listen to a lot of sound example of each and see what you like. It really all comes down to what one likes. These synths each have their own 'sound'.

Not buying. Just thought you could compare. Your id700 patch makes me suggest with ripplemaker btw. Not my own tweaking.

  • I'm so curious what software gets closest to matching the capability of the 0-coast? I'm talking about Desktop and/or IOS. I've been messing with the Toybox blocks (including Nano Pack) and they are so well designed and inventive that I imagine it's very much like working with the 0-coast. I've wanted a no coast for such a long time, just to have a synth to touch is somehow preferable. But I do wonder if I already have something that provides for that experimental sonic potential.

Personally sticking with ma IOS plan. Ripplemakers and ID700, as an ocoast substitute. If it dosent make me happy. Then might buy an ocoast. The pitsburgh voltage lab would be cool. Seems like an antique boutique already.

That voltage lab looks amazing, shit

  • Ripplemaker is the closest to an 0-Coast on iOS (or desktop, really). You could make some kind of approximation of it in MiRack I guess but it would be quite the undertaking.

On desktop there are various modular options that would get you in the ballpark - the obvious virtual modular options (VCV Rack, Reaktor etc) but my favourite for that kind of West Coast oddity is Madrona Labs stuff. The stuff Aalto is capable of is just incredible. Also I love the Arturia Buchla Easel, which is the only way I'm getting my hands on a Buchla anything any time in the foreseeable future.
