  • Thanks, update must be closet

  • yeah, it's close. I thought Apple was quicker to update its App store once you hit "release this version" but it's taking hours ... :-(

  • Great new features. Caustic is a powerhouse.

  • Just appeared in Oz

  • In US!

It's live! I was just using Caustic 3.1 beta on my PC earlier today, too! Woo hoo!

    image

Direct import of original preset files now works with Open In! Here's a test of a beatbox kit I made on PC with wav samples. Caustic website has tons of free ones to download as well.

Man, is this a massive update!

  • @Caustic_Rej is it possible to map the mixer to my nanoKontrol2 and also the play, record and stop controls. Massive update Love it.

  • Hmm, can't manage to open Caustic 3.1 on ipad Air (ios 7). Stuck on splash screen with no sound, then the screen disappears, showing the ios desktop with red bar on top (Caustic Recording) showing. Using app switcher to jump back to Caustic again shows splash screen...

I rebooted the device, but to no avail (in fact, before the reboot I could briefly see the organ, but no button in the UI worked). Did anyone encounter the same issue?

  • ... and the same issue pops up on my 1st gen. ipad mini (ios 7.1.0). Version 3.0 worked on both without a hitch.

  • No probs on my Air or iPad 2

  • Do you have 7.1.1 or 7.1.0? (or ios 6?)

  • Oh, that's not good... I know it's a pain but can you try backing up your data for Caustic and re-installing it?

Otherwise, if you're familiar with FTP, can you try connecting to caustic (turn on FTP server in the "Connect" menu) and deleting the files called "quicksave" and "config" from the root directory.

  • @djjuniorpops: I still need to add mappings for the "global" stuff like effects, mixers and transport. Right now, the app will respond to standard MIDI start/stop commands but not from custom-mapped CCs.

  • 7.1.1 on both

  • @thinds: I tried installing 7.1.1, but that did not change things.

@Caustic_Rej: Thanks for the suggestions, but re-installing did not seem to work, neither did removing Documents/config (no quicksave file on ipad mini). I used ifunbox to directly access the file system, since I cannot access any Caustic menu.

Need to sleep now, will try again tomorrow.

  • Did update on iPad Mini Retina with no problems running iOS 7.1.1

The midi and Audiobus are working great for me, very nice update.

    Great update!!!

Was the feature to swipe left/right the preset name to move between presets always there?
    Amazing job.
    Thanks.

Edit: The KSSynth has wonderful sounds. WOW!!!

sorry badmaxton, didn't think about it when I suggested to use the app's FTP to delete the files.. duh, long day.

I'm kinda stumped at this point .. if a clean re-install doesn't work the only thing I can see is different from others is the jailbreak (which I assume you need to run ifunbox, right?), I know a couple of others here run Caustic on jailbroken devices, anyone else seeing this?

@Shay: hehe, yeah the swipe for presets was there since 3.0. I think I show it off in the overview video.

iFunbox doesn't require a jailbreak for most operations

Quick test: it seems to be working fine on my iPad Air (7.1.1)

  • Great job.
Thanks a lot for this amazing update.

  • This is a seriously good app and all the MIDI updates made it wonderful. And, don't forget, it has the best chorus effect on iOS by a long shot. Congratulations!

  • That's a neat update,i'll give caustic a try now.Btw,i saw the point"skinning support".Are there already some other skins available?

  • @Crabman, there are 4 pre-installed skins and you can get others on their forum.

Amazing update! Lovin the new pluck/string modeling synth (ima total sucker for plucked sounds, for some reason). Works just fine here by the way, on both iPad Air and iPhone 5 on iOS 7.1.1. Many thanks for all this.

Can't get that much better as far as self contained fully fledged mobile music production studio apps go. Only area it is lacking in IMO is the keyboard, playing input interface. Which only covers one octave at a time. 2-2,5 octaves overlay screen keyboard (scales option would be a bonus), would be awesome (and come in very handy). Pleeeeease consider it at least :)

  • Works fine on my jailbroken Air (7.04). Great update! iFunbox does not require a jailbreak. iFile (which is what I use for file management) does require a jailbreak. iFile has the advantage of not requiring a PC and iTunes and also has Dropbox support.

  • Enjoy this one guys, I've been running the beta version of this update for a while and it has become my goto music app. Stunning!!

Agree! Although I've never had too much concern about the keyboard. Virtual MIDI option should help with that (you can use MIDI control apps of your choice), but yeah, a scale option would be icing on the cake. I find myself going to this app specifically because i want to program songs in the piano roll editor. I love how it sounds out the note as you set it on the grid.

There is a pretty cool "Easter Egg" feature meant for people who bother to watch his videos. Can't say what it is, but go watch the Easter Egg video and unlock it. It's pretty cool! And as with everything, so much more enjoyable because Rej bothered to take a few minutes to make a video showing some of the different ways you can use it. There's probably 2+ hours of tutorial content available for Caustic, and it is super helpful.

Want to be clear to people looking at this app for the first time that although it now has AudioBus input and output, it is not a "DAW" per se. It IS a fully functional music studio with tracks, mixers, and effects. But similar to NanoStudio, it does not have an audio track in the traditional sense where you would record an instrument or external app as a its own "machine". That being said, he demonstrates in the AB/MIDI video how you can absolutely record external sounds using the .wav recorder, so it'd be entirely feasible to record external sounds as "samples" and use them in the mix.

I bought this app months ago when I heard that an AudioBus update was imminent. Even before the update, it turned out to be extremely useful, and this update makes it even better!

  • Pew! Pew!

    Thank you!
