Anyone here with problem Nanostudio 2 and immediately crash on M1 iPads?

Todays upgrade certainly changed something, can use NS2 anymore on the M1…

Lucky me that has three other iPads 😊😊😊

I had to disable 'update Audio Unit database on startup' in the settings of NS2 on my iPad Pro M1. After that no problems anymore. (Virsyn's Addstation was the app that let NS2 crashing at startup)

Update : on loading demos NS2 crashes :(

OK, I will try this - coming back later and tell more... Thanks!

Now that NS2 IAPs are a topic of interest again, I really hope the developer brings in some different producers to create sounds. Some diversity from a different studio would be a great way to energize this app and bring in new funds.

    All for that.

  • A crap update only for make more money by the IAP.

Spot on, mate. He sells a few million copies of this new, hugely expensive IAP, easy-peasy, then pay the Apple ransom, pay his taxes, then share the rest with his kitmaker friend and they are both off to the Caribbean for an early retirement. We'll never hear from them again. I mean, Matt is totally the epitome of a developer only being in it for the money. Why else would he target the hugely lucrative ios music app market?

The perfect response to such stupidity. 😂 I mean, would he rather pay a subscription to keep the developer afloat?

(Actually, NS2 is one of a couple of apps I'd make an exception for when it comes to paying subscriptions. Matt should allow an optional "support me" subscription. Nothing locked behind a paywall. Just something to help him pay his annual developer fees.)

Definitely buying the Studio Drums IAP. :) Don't need it, but any way I can support Matt financially is a good thing. Hopefully Audio Tracks are coming soon.

Same. Although I'm still not that bothered by the lack of audio tracks.

Neither am I. I'd simply prefer to master tracks I make in Gadget within NS2 than Cubasis 3 since NS2 works with Bluetooth headphones without a hitch.

    Superb response 😉

  • I love the workflow but I’ve had waaayyyyy too many issues mixing down songs, especially when using Audio Units. It’ll just stop mixing down around 80% of the way and never finish. Just tried it again and it still won’t finish mixing down.

Huh? Was that really necessary? What a crap comment from the peanut gallery. I’m buying the new iap because Matt deserves that grandiose carribean retirement lol.

  • NanoStudio 2 is the work of one developer and he relates:

"I'm sure many of you can attest that the last 18 months have been unusual. I've been unable to dedicate much time to NanoStudio 2"

"Man intends one thing, Fate another." We all hoped for audio tracks but it's a bridge too far. It's still a great product and hopefully circumstances will change over the next year or 2.

The internal synth is amazing and there are many useful free instruments available via patchstorage to make it a compelling DAW for multi-track projects (10-20 track) because the code is so efficient compared to the AUv3 model which tends to stall after 5-6 tracks.

It's great to see available time is being applied for requested updates.

I honestly wish the man would start a GoFundMe or a Patreon. His is the only app I'd pay a monthly subscription for (besides Auxy), because it could help him focus more on NS2 rather than working the 9-5 he's probably currently working to keep his family going.

Ahh, if he could do a kickstarter listing X features at X monies within X time... I'd likely bite.

Sorry, but this ain’t solved my crash behavior on NS2 after todays update…

Perhaps iPadOS15 beta 4 is the problem, not the M1 CPU?

I had similar issues with the mixdown when there were some non-English alphabet characters (like á, é) in the file/song name. I removed those letters from the file name and the mixdown succeeded...
    Strange, isn’t it?

Me, too. And something may be on the way. Over at the NS forum, Matt hinted that without a higher price, or a desktop version with a higher price, or a subscription, such projects are not viable.

I noticed. :) I gave Matt the proper motivation to get things going. Patreon, GoFundMe, someone else mentioned Kickstarter, optional in-app subscription just to support development, etc. I don't want NS2 to fall to the wayside.

@ervin : That was brilliant !! Ha ha ha

  • So bizarre, I went and checked just a couple of days ago to see if by chance there had been an update to NS2.
Start/stop Ableton link is the one issue that makes it so much more useful for me. Of course audio tracks and au effects automation but there are "work arounds" for that.
    Downloaded.
Very happy to hear NS2 is not dead.

  • I also voted with my wallet in favor of these developments.

    On a related note, 👌👍👏 @ervin

Matt's comments in the thread are in lime with what several iOS music dev friends have said over the past few years...it is getting harder and harder to make enough money on iOS-only music apps to justify it as anything but a hobby.

  • Had a big play with NS2 after at least a year of being a hardcore Drambonian.

So much is great about this app, the grouping tracks in particular. I just wish I could automate AU FX parameters!

Doesn’t really apply so much to comany developers (Zenbeats/Cubase/GarageBand/Besthawk etc).

Sure it does. If it’s hard to make enough to support one developer, then it’s harder make enough to pay more developers. Just because companies are bigger doesn’t mean they automatically sell more.

Larger companies can sometimes decide to take a loss in order to maintain brand presence or as an enticement to other products such as higher priced desktop apps, sound packs, etc. But, at the end of the day the equation is the same: the return has to be worth the investment or the product will not be allocated resources forever.

GarageBand is an enticement to graduate to Logic and as an attraction to sell iOS devices. BeatHawk is a vehicle to sell sound packs and the desktop apps, same for Zenbeats. I doubt many iOS apps offer a positive return on investment for any larger companies in and of themselves.

Damn, I forgot you cannot automate AU FX. So frustrating.

  • Great to see an update. Happy to get the new DrumKit 🤙

  • @wim : Never said they did in and of themselves . Zenbeats can sell subscriptions tonRoland cloud ,Cubasis getting new Cubase users and so forth
