  • Looks dope!

  • ordering as well. already tried to, but the shop isnt updated yet

  • OHHH no...they did it. My beloved Touch Bar is gone.
But I must say this 16.2" with 64GB an M1 Max is a f...... hell of a machine.
But I am scared too watch the price......maxed out with 8TB.

  • As someone who always hides the menubar so I can have the full screen to work on, the notch is a great addition.

    I didn't expect an 8.2 big.little config. That's really interesting.

Did they say the headphone jack can drive high impedance headphones? That could be really interesting.

The XDR display on both the 14 and 16 is surprising too.

Benchmarks are going to be interesting!

  • That Notch decision is hilarious, there's no justification for it on a laptop.

Yes, I heard that too. Plus the speakers received a big upgrade with 4x woofers and 2x tweeters - all speakers are larger than previous MBPs, with "4x more bass".

The XDR display on both the 14 and 16 is surprising too.

The new XDR displays with the mini-LEDs was surprising!
And the 14" can be configured with the M1 Max. Up to 64GBs of RAM with 32-core GPU. Gee whizz.
Looks like both the M1 Pro and M1 Max will have the same 10-core CPU? But the M1 Max gets 2x the GPU cores?
$1999 starting price for the 14", $2499 for the 16". They said we can order today, available next week.
And it finally has an SD Card reader/writer too!

There is though. The entire 16:10 normal display is below the notch. They didn't take out display area. They added display area next to the camera where the menus can sit without taking up any display area.

  • Yeah, the 14" is actually 14.2" and the 16" is 16.2", diagonally. Menu bar covers the notch. Bezels are smaller. Those new XDR displays are going to be killer.

Probably the biggest news in A DECADE : An apple laptop now has a webcam that is better than 720p. Lol, it had to be done eventually.

Apple have been using their 720p “FaceTime HD” camera since the 2011 MacBook Pro. 🤦🏻‍♂️

[edit: not to take away from the legitimate ground breaking upgrades on M1 pro and Max. It’s just always been odd to me that the webcam has been completely neglected for so long]

  • 12mp sensor still in iPhones since the iPhone 6 too. :)

This isn't a justification, making the screen bigger doesn't mean a notch should go there. I wouldn't buy a standalone monitor with a notch in it either. If it's just a camera, it's something you don't use all the time so it's a waste of space half the time. I'd rather have an edge to edge display thanks :)

  • I made a joke once about Apple releasing a cinema with a Notch in the screen, it looks like it wasn't even a joke now :D

I think the entry level 14 is going to sell like hot cakes.

At least Logic update is coming too and my little M1 will get the benefits too.
I mean i would love a 16.2“ but so far my M1 handles almost all i need fine (i have the 16GB RAM option).
But if i would make a living with music i would have ordered one today for sure…..even without TouchBar.
I think Intel and AMD are done.

  • And macOS Monterey will be out next Monday...
(I guess iOS/iPadOS15.1 as well since the new AirPods Require it).

Guess Apple still doesn't believe in Bluetooth for serious work as the new MacBookPro's still have the 3.5mm jack :sunglasses:

I’d be willing to pay extra if they’d bring a 1/8” audio jack to the new iPad Pros.

  • @Tarekith said:
Pretty sweet looking upgrade for sure, definitely getting one asap!

The new A1 Pro/Max chips are insane. And the 64 GB of RAM is pretty spectacular.

But that is very unlikely to happen...
...it would make sense considering they put in so much effort into the microphone system and then take away the real-time monitoring options by using BT audio...

  • I’m going to get the base 14 for work.

The entry level specs are already pretty awesome. I’d like more storage, but SD card slot!!

Perfect for sample libraries, keeping them separate from work :-D

  • What about the new AirPods ! They looks very nice for someone like me who cannot wear in-ear things

  • Is it me, or did they yank all the intel models of their laptops from the store?

  • @AlmostAnonymous said:

They intended to keep offering Intel models for a while during the transition.

  • By the way, have people noticed these new Macbook Pros can max out at 8 TB of storage? Eight terabytes? That is utter madness.

Right?! I'm not ordering until I can get 16.

Minis have been transitioned and still offer a intel model. I was expecting at least a year of intel model laptops.

  • Logic 10.7 seems ready too...mostly about spatial audio....just my game :)

The Minis are targeted at devs and "switchers." Both of those may have people who need to keep some Intel compatibility so the Minis mat stick around with an Intel version for longer. They could just be waiting to get rid of the Intel version until they have the higher spec'd Mini too.

I was expecting the big iMac at this event and the 16" MacBook to maybe be released during WWDC. It could be that Apple is having supply issues. I've read that they are having specific issues with getting some power controller IC's. THat could be why that haven't transitioned everything yet too.

I know a bazillion network engineers that all use MacBook pros to multiple boot multiple OSes.
Really the same goes for a lot of people that I know who work in a predominant x86 environment who isn’t an “end user”
While they weren’t expecting an update on those, but the news that it’s not gonna last as long as they originally anticipated is disheartening. Knowing they’re gonna have to go back to a dual laptop setup sooner than expected.

My music world isn’t dependent on it, but there is still a lot of stuff I use in vmware.

I’m sure those last model intels are gonna hold their value longer than usual.
Personally, I was expecting to still see 1 or 2 intel model still left in the store.
(Not that I was gonna buy one).

  • I've got a Macbook Air M1. Although the new Macs look amazing I'm more then happy with the performance of my Air so I've no real desire to upgrade just yet. The eye watering price doesn't help. LOL.
