Just felt the need to express setup.
If I was starting out with hardware and on a budget there is NOOOOO way I would buy a sp404mkii over an MPC one+
Almost the same price but nowhere at all the same in power…MPC for the easy win
In fact, one could buy a Force for 750 used in great shape these days! Add an analog bass synth like Typhon or Moog Minotaur and a nice hydrasynth discover and there probably isn’t anything else to want for…
As you can run the hydra thru the typhon to use the analog gain/filter/and sinevibe Efx….and come into the force inputs.
Having owned both, I would choose the 404 over the MPC any day. There were things I liked about the MPC a lot, but overall I didn’t gel with it and ended up selling it. The 404 was way better for me and the kind of music I was using it for.
Yeah I had all the MPC’s over the past 5-6 years and the SP404 MK2 blows them away in my workflow. The fx and (synths) on the MPC are laughable, actually worthless is the what they were for me. SP404 MK2 is a little odd to figure out but once you do it’s unstoppable. If I had to choose the SP vs. the iPad I would choose the iPad. Hell I’m even thinking of selling my op-1 field cause of the iPad. Hahah
I ended up selling my 404 because I always just used my iPad and never broke it out. Not enough to justify owning it. I do miss my OP-1 though. I’m saving up for a Field now.
I would say make me an offer on the Field but mine has the loose battery issue. Teenage engineering offered to send me a brand new one if I sent it back but I’m in Mexico and I didn’t want to take the chance of having it get lost along the way or even have to wait another month to get another one.
Ah man that sucks. Whats the issue exactly? I hadn’t heard of this before now. Is the battery loose and causing it to shut off? Or not charge correctly? I wonder how widespread this is.
At least they offered to send you one. I know their customer service can be finicky at times.
It hasn’t affected the machine at all. I was playing around with it again today and I would be crazy to sell it because it really is such an amazing piece of gear. It will only get better with time as surely TE will be coming out with cool updates. I would love to have some kind of granular effect. Ok sorry I don’t want to derail this thread so I’ll shut up about it. Haha
Thanks! Yeah my OG OP-1 is one of my favorite pieces ever and I really regret selling it. The field seems like everything dialed up to 11 and I love that.
