Hey mate. How've you been holding up these days?
Ha, I'm fine! The Still Alive was more referring to the state of TJ
Cool. Cheers. Glad you and TJ are doing well. ☺️
Long Live TJ!
It's exciting that you're still alive. ThumbJam is one of the main apps that got me into music production. During my first few months of heartbreak, it was the only app that I could use to play good melodies without getting out of bed. Ten years later, I'm still trying to get things back to where they should be, and you're still helping.
Long live the Sonosaurus...if you ever need a producer tag for emo trap, you could yell "Sonosaurus not extinct!"
I need to figure out how to make a scala file. Hang drum + Wilson's Subharmonic Grid + LaunchPad = beauty. I know this, because ThumbJam doesn't send pitch bend information to notes that have been released, so the hang drum works perfectly with external retuners!
I'm honored that it made a difference in your life, thank you!
You can export the Scala from Wilsonic (although it seems to make you use SMS or e-mail instead of just a basic share sheet, which would be much easier and allow you to import directly into other apps on the device... you should probably suggest that to the developer), and if you then airdrop that file back to yourself or open the e-mail attachment you can open it with ThumbJam and it will show up in the User area of the scales selector in TJ.
Thanks for the update! Love ThumbJam!
Also thanks for checking in and posting. It’s always great to see developers keeping up with their products!
The Legend awakens
Yes. Love me some TJ and DJ. Thanks.
@sonosaurus is legend indeed. Thumbjam was the first app I ever bought - almost 10 years ago now.
Long live sonosaurus! Go and checkout SonoBus also available on the App Store and every other non apple computing platform.
So glad that ThumbJam continues. Learning that you can use it in slideover multitasking mode really blew my mind.
Yep, and split view too. It is interesting how few music apps seem to support the full range of it. I think it comes down to needing to support portrait orientation (on both iPad and iPhone) that limits how widespread it is, since many music apps tend to be landscape only.
First music app I bought, on an iPod Touch WAY back when.
First I install on a new device.
Love, Love, LOVE ThumbJam!!!
@sonosaurus Is it possible to disable the vibrato/tremolo function? It’s kinda cool , maybe once every 10 songs, but the fact that just a slight movement of my finger triggers it all the time is (for me anyway) fairly irritating 😁 Thanks
On the bottom left, tap Edit, Controls and there you can disable it
Great! Thanks man
@senhorlampada - just realised that I need to turn it off every time I select a new instrument ! Is there not a way to just turn them off completely? @sonosaurus
You need to save them as user presets and load that instead, if you've made changes...
Ok, thanks
Can't figure out how to change the settings so that the volume increases as I slide my finger up the screen (?) I had it set like that before, bit now it doesn't affect it. @sonosaurus
Hit edit in the bottom left corner and then controls. The first option is how you want to set the volume (x or y axis)
Ah! I was looking in the prefs in the bottom right hand corner....totally forgot about the edit button.
Thanks @HotStrange !
No problem! Glad I could help 👍🏻
Still a piece of genius work that remains in the creative Top Five in this bunker.
Yes 🙌🏻 i still use that and DrumJam all the time. Sound wise, especially for the price, there’s not much that can compete. And the looper and x/y axis control makes it a ton of fun.
+1 for ThumbJam and +1 for DrumJam too. I was actually using DrumJam yesterday after I watched a new video by Pete Lockett on his YT channel. Both are incredibly well designed with more features than you can shake a stick at, and a very deep and powerful set of features to control the instruments, MIDI, playback, touch controls, etc. You can also import your own sounds and create your own instruments, and there's a lot of user created instruments out there that are really nice.
Request: If anyone knows of user-created ThumbJam instruments that are available outside of the app, I'd love to hear about it.
Seconded. I’d love some more instruments lol
Did you download all the free samples already?
Almost all of them - there were a couple that looked like ones I would not use like the Scottish Smallpipes (nothing against the, but I don't see myself using that sound).
