Oscilab stuttering scenes and dodgy reviews
I've already mentioned this on the other Oscilab thread but thought it deserves a thread of it's own. Is anyone else is experiencing a slight stutter or lag when changing scenes? I am using an ipad 3 IOS 7.1.1 set up with all guns blazing. There is no way to contact the dev directly, and I don't use facebook or Twitter. Yes, I know it's only the price of a cup of coffee but it seems if anyone dares to criticise an app or developer on this forum you get knocked back and accused of being a whinger. I don't mind the odd bug and admire anyone who has the skill, vision and knowledge to create a useful music app, but I also feel I have invested enough time and money in IOS music to have my say. That is, I think many people on this forum have their own agenda when recommending and reviewing apps. And are not totally honest in their opinion. Oscilab! The next greatest music app in the world ever, hurry, there'll be another one along tomorrow. As for Oscilab it will go the way of the wobbly X if they don't fix it soon like so many other apps that don't cut it. A crap app if you like and we all know who they are don't we.

Sorry, no issues with iPad Air.
Try this if you want to contact the dev... [email protected]
As mentioned on the other thread, it works without a hitch on Air. No stutters, glitches, halitosis or arrhythmia.
I didn't notice any stutters (iPad Air) though I did wish it had the option to change at the the end of measure as well as instantaneous (or did I miss that?)
@bennorland yes, you missed it. Click 'Wait to end' below the scene selections and it will change at the end of the last bar.
It does have that option, it's the "wait to end" button in the right bottom corner. (Edit: Trueyorky was quicker).
I get the changing scenes stutter as well on a mini retina. It's more noticeable for some scenes, for others it's hard to detect.
Working ok on air here
Thanks for pointing out "wait till end". I must explore more carefully before I open my mouth.
I shall be making a video of this very soon, and I can assure you That I personally have no hidden agenda when reviewing an app, As for Oscilab, it works flawlessly on iPad 4, no glitches or stutters as you will see from the video when its out.
None of the presets stutter while changing scenes on my iPad 3 with iOS 7.1.1.
Have you tried reinstalling the app?
Thanks Trueyorky for the email, I've sent the dev the relevant information. It's great that it's working "flawlessly" on the ipad 4 and there are no issues on the ipad air, but what about us grunts slumming it on a mini, 2 or 3? Sorry, but it does say suitable for ipad in the app store blurb. Of course I'm not including the 1st generation ipad because that seems to be obsolete as far as new music apps are concerned. I can run Audiobus with Thumbjam, chordPolyPad and Effectrix going in to Auria without a hitch on my ipad 3. Why can't I get Osillylab..... sorry Osililab to work without it stuttering when I change scenes?
Yeah, thanks Keebo, everything has been installed and re-installed. It seems to happen after I've created a new song with maybe, 4 or 5 instruments, changing all parameters, saving a scene, copying that scene, changing parameters then save again. When I change scenes there's lag and stutter before the next scene starts. I like this app, it has great potential but if there's a bug, the devs should be made aware, as should any potential buyer with older equipment.
Sorry for the issues you are experiencing. I know things like that can be quite frustrating. I only had time to try out the presets earlier. I hope to get a chance later today to see if I can duplicate your process of stutter.
I am also experiencing this when I change scenes but not always. As I can see I am not the only one. iPad 4 latest ios version
Bit defensive, no?
@Mmmwahaha, I was able to reproduce your tasks but did not have any issues as you described. Everything worked perfectly. Sorry for your dismay. Perhaps I am just finally lucky. Should I purchase some lottery tickets while my luck persists? Good luck to you and the others having problems. This is one of the first apps that I have been able to enjoy right off of the bat. Hopefully it will only get better.

Keebo, I don't think you should write stuff like that if you're not the developer.
Sorry @Crizzy, I was only trying to be helpful to a fellow app user.
I received an email from Sebastian Marconi the Developer at 2beat, he said
"Yes, we noticed the dropouts/lags while switching scenes. We're working on the upgrade.
Thanks!
What a shame, another bug ridden app released too early.......... Deleted until fixed.
After years of buying music apps and been stung more than once with crap apps that don't work properly, some on recommendations from members on this forum, I ask myself is this forum the equivalent of the Stepford wives? Everyones perfect, everyones a winner boys and girls!
We could do with some real, honest, in-depth and subjective reviews pointing out the bad as well as the good. How will music made on IOS go forward and progress if everyone ignores the shortcomings of an app and rewards averageness? The reason I became obsessed with music apps is seeing the innovation, creativity and genius of app like Thumbjam and thinking "this is the dogs bollocks!" Osililab.........bollocks.
Bit defensive, yes.
"Bug ridden"? ....you found one in a 1.0 release. Jeez

Hahaha, no pressure huh?
Crazy!
Cubasis and the rest of them v1.0 buggers should hide their (inter)faces in shame! :0
People here are generally not the least bit shy to point out issues with apps, either actual bugs or missing features.
As far as Oscilab, I've seen posts from so many people saying they are enjoying it, including myself. Many have posted tracks they've made. No one has said it's the perfect app, but many have found it very functional.
I have an issue with such statements as "bug ridden" and "Stepford"...
If I could dissect the individual thought from @Mmmwahaha 's overall post about needing some more critical reviews of apps since people "in the industry" tend to be a little friendly to each other, then I would agree. But the overall tone and complete lack of nuance of that post just seems a bit extreme, especially for this particular app, which seems to work pretty well.
You identified a specific issue with this brand new app (which basically is that a specific process just needs to be optimized a little better), got a direct response from the developer indicating that they were already working on a fix...and your response is to trash the app, delete it, and deride it as a bug-ridden piece of crap. Really?
There are BELOVED apps used and enjoyed by hundreds of posters on this forum that permanently suffer from the type of minor inconvenience you encountered. In some cases, they are fixed promptly, sometimes much later, and sometimes not at all. Sometimes the problems are even specific to the user, such as running an older device, or trying to run a ton of apps/processes at once and expecting everything to just "work". I've yet to hear a single thing in Oscilab that doesn't "work". Some things could work better (and apparently will after they are updated), and some design choices may not be your favorite, but we can make those points without generally coming across as pissed that other people seem to be enjoying something that you are not.
I can hear hooves allover this thread but I don't see too many dodgy reviews for Oscilab. Strange.
I'm heading for the uk iTunes review centre!
Well, they say opinions are like arseholes, but in this case the arsehole is quite easy to spot amongst the opinions...
@StormJH1 thanks for politely summing up my own thoughts.
Almost 330 comments on 2 oscilab threads combined. Not bad. Watch out Gadget!
