    Me too... These short exercises are stress relief for my current situation.

    I'm having trouble finding the flow of deep effort with my wife's on going illness.

    We seem to be making slow but consistent progress getting her back into something like our life before her string of stomach surgeries. She's had about 30 feet removed and my have to live with constant pain but we're hoping it will dissipate with time.

    We have been here before (discharged after a surgery) and returned to the hospital twice with a new intestinal failure so I do tend to be on the alert for the other shoe to drop.

    No need for condolences... I just feel the need to share the experience. My intention being to advise everyone to develop a sense of gratitude and perspective on life when it is good.

    We are all going to die... but ideally you don't linger in a lot of pain and loose ground by inches. For anyone that is interested I'll share more. Life is precious and the joy of creating is one of life's greatest treasures. Fame and fortune have side effects I'd never want to deal with. But making something that speaks to you is more than enough to add meaning to a life. Treasure your art as it reveals itself to you. If it benefits anyone else that's just icing on the cake.

    Thanks for the comment and the steady stream of truly inspiring music.You do so much YouTube, I didn't think there would be over 200 tracks on your soundcloud. I hope I can find a way to stream just your music and not have SoundCloud decide to create a multi-artist mix. If anyone has a clue slip in to me.

    I started layering Euclidean Sequencers into BS-16i instruments and made an audio recording. I imported the audio file into StaffPad for this sketch. The loop gets chopped up for a complex but easy to implement ending. That’s the infamous CinePerc “Waterphone” on the last note for extra mystery… “fingernails on the blackboard of your brain”.

    I like when the bowed strings come in about the 1 minute mark. I hate to fall back on " this reminds me of..." but there is a particular part of the King Crimson song, " Sex, Sleep, Eat, Drink, Dream" that I really love and this captures what I really love about it.

I discovered Robert Fripp around the time that Microsoft brought him in to make some sounds for “Windows 95” (I think, it was 95). Maybe the start-up audio… Google might know.

    The more I think about it, it's the polyrhythmic/ poly-meter nature of the Euclidian Sequencer and the way you introduced the parts. That was one of my favorite things about the Belew/Bruford/Levin versions of King Crimson. From Discipline to Thrakk my favorite songs fit together precisely because they didn't ( at least not in the typical 4/4 way). Whether it was a nagging feeling of an extra note in "Frame by Frame" or the cacophony resolving to a beautiful chorus in " Neurotica" .

    Despite all my effort it just didn’t work for me. I thought I needed the “score on the iPad and render” workflow, but I never was happy with the timings and dynamics. Maybe I missed something, but in the end the very “special” hand writing recognition just made me uninstall.
    I’m like 5 times faster with paper and pencil.

    I’m really impressed with what you achieve with this app.

    Thanks. It scratch an itches I had ever since I bought the 2017 iPad. I tried DAW's with iSymphonic and got nowhere.

    Yes. The orchestral "attack" (particularly in the brass) is very slow and with Staffpad your only option to to buy yet another versions of brass, strings, etc. Given you capabilities making sample sets I can see that you preferred your tools. Notion Mobile is free with a $15 IAP to add handwriting recognition. Persons hopefully will continue to update and improve that option.

    Maybe I missed something, but in the end the very “special” hand writing recognition just made me uninstall.

    Yes. Most of my sketching is intended to speed up my capabilities but it has taught me the power of cut and paste to avoid
    writing additional notes since that's the error prone part of the app. Writing complex rhythms can take a long time for 1 bar so
    I tend to write the rhythms and then slide around the note heads.

    I’m really impressed with what you achieve with this app.

    I totally agree, however… it requires players who can read music, who are willing to play your score as you intended. If you got money, that’s no problem. I’ll be spending time on my patio as soon as the weather permits, forcing myself to make StaffPad work.

    This last sketch started from a 1:30 audio clip made with Euclidean Sequencers running in a loop. Then I started adding strings and my favorite StaffPad "Ukulele" from the Guitar Collection which sounds like a close mic'ed Harp to my ears. I had to go in an turn it down even tho' it was marked "mf". It really cuts through and the other harps (I bought a bunch) are mellow but they can't fight their way to the front of the mix.

    @Paulieworld, I feel bad about talking you into the StaffPad purchase and it maybe not working for you. We can't resell these apps.

    I was going to get it, regardless. Perhaps “forcing” was a poor choice of words. I’m very much looking forward to that. I have been in a creative rut for a while, and I know it will inspire some fresh ideas. Your sketches have given me a lot to think about. Keep them coming!

    Thanks for the spot on diagnosis. The strings are a gesture to most of the work that came before this.
    The contrast and change of feeling are probably more what your highlighting that the actual string ensemble.

    Thanks... Staffpad provides this triplet delay effect to add more rhythmic mayhem.
    I'm off to re-listen to Black Market and see some parallels. If I can I'll come back and use my Lalo Schifrin detector... it's
    probably the 3-3-2 patterns which are pretty close to the 3-3-2-2 (5/4) sequence of the "Mission Impossible" theme.

    That’s probably a good thing… I listened to the “Black Market” track and it made the case for “Weather Report” being the
    Premier group of that era. I’m sure a lot of what I hear as “good” comes from the music they invented. Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter created a new genre everyone called Fusion. The use of synths for improvised music (jazz) was the big change and how the drums pulled influences from around the planet.

    Count me among the people who appreciate it. I’d probably just mess it up, but part of me wants to throw some Nine Inch Nails distorted drums and a chugging riff onto this as a remix. Probably best that I don’t. It’s good how it is.

    That would be fucking amazing… anything added is appreciated. It’s just a file that sits up in the cloud wanting to be made audial (it’s a word,,, I Googled it).

    The strings articulation in shuffle the deck seems a bit off to me.

    In both pieces, the synth is a welcomed addition.

    Does this refer to timing? The “HeyDrummer” audio track is really sloppy. After I added some instruments I called it off completely but I still uploaded for the lesson learned… don’t build a
    Track on a bad drum track and expect it to suddenly get better.

    For drum loops the LUMBeats apps have much better feel… of course “HeyDrummer” has a lot of
    Loops to select from and maybe the one I picked was a bit sloppy. Knowing the BPM of any loop is essential for import to Staffpad because it assumes 120 BPM as a default but it change be adjust after import to match the source material.

    There’s also an adaptive audio feature where you can adjust the “tempo” track to match the graphic in an audio track and StaffPad warps the original audio’s timing to font StaffPad’ s clock without changing pitch. It’s fiddly work but perfect if you were trying to add strings to a live recording and want it to just sound aligned. I did that with an Eva Cassidy video but SoundCloud detected the use of IP protected material and would not let me upload my Eva Cassidy with orchestra version.

    I just read today that an Eva Cassidy with orchestra album is in the works… she died in 1996 so the process to get to this announcement must have been complicated.

    Yes… Once I get into a pure Staffpad project I tend to want to add some synths. I could export the Staffpad “work in progress” as Audio into AudioShare and add a synth recording in AUM (or any DAW really) and then import the synth track into Staffpad to finish.

    Maybe I should do that next.
