It is a brilliant plugin, a highlight of the year :)

it's a superb plugin for sure, my fav in 2021 ...

  • It does look great. On the other hand, it is 4 cutoff filters that you modulate ... surely this can be built in Drambo using the automation beta? ;-)

  • Agreed 100% I wasn’t going to get this but the Dan Worrall video really shows what an amazing sound sculpting tool this is. A real pleasure to use. After all this time I’ve still not really understood the power of filters. Lots of fun ahead with this one!

  • Refund on full price, immediate bundle repurchase for $3.01 was a success for anyone who hasn’t done it. I risked being a sap and was honest and explained I wanted to refund so I could save $20 with the bundle in my petition, but it got approved nonetheless. Probably just some mindless Apple zombie in a good mood, but I like to think humanity can still appreciate a good bit of honesty.

LP, HP, BP, Bell, low shelf, high shelf, notch, all pass modeling classic, smooth, raw, hard, hollow, extreme, gentle, tube, metal, easy going, clean with modulation options of slider, xy controller, lfo, envelope generator, envelope follower, and midi source. Have fun building it!

4:53 let's talk about these drum sounds

It's honestly just basic synthesis, feed a filter with a source be it noise or other waveforms :)
(Most 'bass/kick-drums' are just fast filter sweeps with high/self oscillating resonance).

In Volcano 3 you can use incoming midi to trigger envelopes. An envelope routed to 'Level' will act as an amp envelope.

When you then feed it with a source (oscillator such as auGEN X, or iVCS3 Oscillator) and control their pitch with the same midi-trigger you get a mono synth, need more 'oscillators' put Volcano 3 on a bus and feed it with as many as needed :)

For hi-hats, you may need two filters in serial, one to cut out all the low-end and one band-pass to shape the transient and use a noise oscillator as the source.

The best way to 'experiment' with Volcano 3 is to feed it with a simple source (noise or saw/square wave) and explore the modulation capabilities. It's easy to get lost in time...

  • Me personally, I need to keep reading this kind of stuff. Eventually it will sink in, it’s really important to have patient people like yourself @wim to keep on spelling it out. Thanks. My lab will be following your instructions very soon.
    Filters are fab :)

  • Yeah it’s suuuuuper easy to get lost in time. I was just messing around making a bass auto-wah and 2 hours later I was no further in making it than when I started, but I had a ton of fun messing with all kinds of parameters and learning how things interact - so it wasn’t all wasted time 🙃

  • It’s a pretty intuitive plugin, I went in blind and could figure out how things work pretty quickly just from using timeless and Saturn 2 previously

Definitely up there in my top 3 easily. Love it!

Woah. It's been a few years but it looks like new Ipad Music Apps are back on the menu!

It's too bad my 2018 standard ipad can't really handle these fabfilter apps. They're fucking amazing.

  • As with Timeless 3 it’s the unique mid/side, per channel and per filter options that really set this apart from the rest, not to mention the sound of the filters themselves.

  • Oops! Volcano 3 is crashing consistently when I do the following:

    1. Load Volcano into AUM. Starting from with default preset:
    2. Double tap to add second filter
    3. Set to parallel
    4. Add an XLFO
    5. Modulate Pan of Filter 1 with XLFO

Within a few seconds, Kaboom! Is anyone else getting this?

    iOS 15.1, AUM 1.3.11 stable

    Fabfilter informed.

It’s fine for me, just tried, BUT that is because I installed the legacy Volcano 1 and 2 presets and somehow that changed the default preset that opens when you open the app. (As a matter of fact, the overwritten new Default preset already has a second filter engaged.)

    https://www.fabfilter.com/downloads/support/factorypresets.zip

    So there’s your quick fix/workaround!

(Alternatively, just don’t do what you’re doing 😜. Switch to the clean preset first.)
