IPad based audio/midi battery powered set-up explained
I've been asked by no other than the mighty @soundtestroom to make a video explaining the set-up I've been using in my looping impros. It took me time to make it but the good thing about passing time is that my set up grew to be more powerful so I have more things to tell. Of course a lot of the info here has been gathered from here and there but probably mostly from this forum so thanks guys.
I tried to make it short and snappy but as it goes it was just too much for a 10 mins shortie so I had to break it down into two parts. Here's part 1

Part 2
Enjoyed the set-up explanation and the show. Bravo!
Indeed, well done!
Nice videos, thank you.
Sunrizer doesn't support midi program changes, sadly. Magellan does.
Thanks guys. It would be good to see more people sharing the ins and outs their set ups in a detailed step by step way. Next time I'll prepare everything a bit better in terms of a sequence of events. And to control the music volume too so my voice is audible (sorry about that)
@supadmon, thanks very much for taking the time to post this. Seeing setups explained like this one ends up learning a lot.
One thing, most likely from thick headedness on my part, what is the purpose of the rechargeable battery holder?
OK, apologies, just saw your explanation in another topic:
'USB power bank goes into the usb hub'
Can you post the models of hub and the battery charger and usb cable? I have been trying to find a similar solution and haven't had any luck so far.
@miguelmarcos I will post the pics of the bits and bobs when I get home tonight. I found that using the genuine CCK helps a lot. I've been using a generic one and changing it to the real thing made all the difference.

Actually it does not receive program change messages from MPK mini but it does from IRig blueboard in program change mode.
@supadom thanks!
Very cool, thx. I need to invest the time to do more keyboard mapping. It's very cool to be able to change things up on the fly like that, has the potential for a much more organic feel. I think you mentioned it, but is loopy receiving clock from impaktor?
@miguelmarcos here's all the bits I'm using in the set up. I cannot stress enough the importance of a genuine Apple CCK. If I had known what I know now I would have saved myself plenty of complications. All the other bits can be had very cheaply so investing £30 in that part is not such a tragedy after all.
dude, the program change from sunrizer ctrls to turnado ctrls blew my mind, it never occurred to me. great setup man.
Wow, that's very cool about Sunrizer and program changes. Cheers @supadom. Looks like it's been there since 2011! I'm stuck in my ways. http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2011/09/22/sunrizer-ipad-synth-updated-with-virtual-midi-multitasking/
Really enjoyed this and learned a lot. Looking forward to hearing more tunes from the attic.
@supadom thanks! One question on the items: The USB cable in the upper right, is that USB micr to 2 USB A or two separate cables or...? Where is it in your setup?
@miguelmarcos it is a usb splitter cable intended for portable class compliant hard drives that device is not able to power on its own (such as wd passport etc). It is a regular usb male on one side and it splits into: mini usb and another regular USB with red cable intended to go into the power bank (or other 5v energy source).
What do you use it for?
This is where it all goes:
Thanks so much!
This is what it looks like when hooked up. You probably can make it look tidier if you don't like dangling cables @miguelmarcos
This helps me alot. Thanks. One question - if you use the lightning/30 pin port for audio does that make the 3.5 headphone jack useless ?
Yes, as son as you plug in the audio interface the other one gets disconnected. I had the same idea like you but managed to use 2 separate audio inputs in the uca 202. It works for me because despite not panning the channels I get a very broad stereo image from sugar bytes effects.
I'm a little confused by this. So it is possible to have use a usb hub to connect the sound card you are using, and then also a midi keyboard and a FCB1010 (using a midi to usb cable) all at once into a CCK?
If so that would be awesome and i'll ditch my current setup
Great videos and great setup! Thanks.
Did you notice the two orbs flying past at 7:18 and 7:20 of the 2nd video? Weird! Any explanation?

You may have to be the pioneer who will find that out. I've never tried it myself but I presume it should work unless there are power issues. However since there is very little research in this area I would make no assumptions until it has been actually proven to work. Imagine the adrenaline rush when you plug it all in and.............;)

Wow, no idea man. Space dust?
@Tom, I have the following setup:
-- Original version Apogee One
-- Arturia Beatstep
-- Line6 Mobile Keys 25
-- (occasionally an Audio-Technica At2020 USB mic)
The biggest hassle for me was finding the right cable from battery to USB hub.
I wish i could. I'm living in Thailand right now, and my parents will come over in about 6 weeks. Would like to order something, as buying here is not that easy (and more expensive).
hub: I have 6 controllers alongside my audio interface (Focusrite) into a Belkin 7 port hub, powered from a USB charger battery, and into the iPad via one standard Apple CCK, with no problems.
