Apps to facilitate one finger chords?

Something that lets me play, say a C, and have it add E and G for a C major chord. Bonus points for adding slight time offsets so it doesn’t sound like a “nail” chord. Not like an arpeggio, although that can also be fun if it’s on tempo.

Time to buy mozaic? I’d rather have it more immediate although I’m a programmer by day.

Just preparing the ground since my minilab is arriving shortly.

Any help appreciated, cheers!

  • Chordjam by Audiomodern is just what the doctor ordered, i reckon

  • Time to consider Mozaic if you want a ton of free MIDI tools and might request quick solutions.

@wim's Chordulator does want you're asking for with the strum featured included as I recall.
You get to choose a root note and the scale.

  • If you do get Mozaic, The Chordulator script is good for this. There’s a demo video on the page.

    +1 to Audiomodern ChordJam

    This app is also great:

If you just happen to use NanoStudio 2 or BM3 then this app will help with avoid the MIDI effect issue:

    Old fav:

Hmm, I’ll dive into that, thanks!

I’ll dive into that also. Thanks! Guess there’s no shortage of options

I am surely buying mozaic. I love Bram’s apps, have almost all, but never found a need for mozaic. It’s obscenely cheap, also

Oh boy, I’m getting more than I bargained for. Guess it’s time to study.
    Thanks!

@Stuntman_mike What do you mean by MIDI effect issue, please?

    I’m also curious...

Yessir, some apps don’t react to MIDI effects the same. For example, if you use some MIDI effects in NS2 or BM3 the MIDI effect doesn’t get recorded. So in the case of chords, you’ll hear it as you play it, but it doesn’t get recorded to MIDI. It’s kinda complicated, but Quantichord and ChordJam don’t have this problem.

In the case of BM3, it also has chords built-in that can be triggered with the pads. I typically use ChordJam and Quantichord the most. ChordJam for inspiration and Quantichord for specific chords. ChordJam and ChordPolyPad both have great strumming.

  • @Stuntman_mike I do have NS2 although I think I bought it for the nostalgia, since I haven’t used it much. BM3 is is a ship gone by, I loved it at first, like years ago, but now it seems like self punishment to use. But I’ll study your suggestions thoroughly, though. Thanks

In addition, don’t rule out the KeyStep 37 for hardware, one-finger chords and strumming. It is a great value, tactile and fun to use.

You’re welcome! AUM doesn’t have any MIDI effect issues, nor does Loopy Pro or Drambo.

I feel guilty about using @wim ’s chordulator without paying for it. Great stuff!

  • Mozaic it is for starters, I’ll check all other options as well. Thanks guys 🙏

  • ScaleBud and ScaleBud 2 does the one finger chrords. ScaleBud 2 has +110 scales to choose from and you can also create your own custom scales as well. You can also check out RhythmBud for strumming effect.

  • I agree with @Stuntman_mike on the ChordPolyPad recommendation. Although I also own the other apps, CPP is my absolute favorite and for me it's also the fastest one to work with.
Hold a pad, toggle notes on the piano keyboard with sound preview, done.
No stupid scrolling through endless lists of preset scales ;)

Can also strum up/down or randomly at different speeds and send MIDI CC from its pads, each doubling as an XY MIDI controller. Works as an AUv3 as well.

    +1 another great choice!

  • After you use @wim's chordulator you'll want to take that output chord and send it through @_Ki's "Multi-Divisi v1.2" Mozaic script that will distribute the notes across up to 10 MIDI channels so you can render accurate string quartets, brass sections or multiple monophonic synths. You'll already own Mozaic so this new capability will be free. I'll stop here but I could go on and on...

It doesn’t hurt to have multiple options 😂
Mozaic along with AUM, Rozeta and Drambo are the Swiss Army Knives of iOS music production.

  • QuantiChord and Tonality cover most of my 'one finger chord needs' more than well...

  • Tonality! Exactly what you're looking for. You can strum them too

  • Which finger will you be using?

Nothing wrong with using chord-players, especially if just using a mobile device screen. But as you're getting a keyboard anyway, why not learn to play the parts in?

    Again, no judgment...just curious

At times it can happen that when you go past your couch with an iPad in your hand, before you know it the couch will suck you in and won't let you go. Now there you're sitting with your iPad but the MIDI controllers are out of reach.
Firing up that chord app will give you faster results than negotiating with your couch.
