@klownshed, sounded like you were having fun to me. You’re on the list in spirit, anyway.
Monologue vs Soliloquy
"a soliloquy involves a character speaking his thoughts to himself"
Alas poor Yonac, I knew you well. (@Yonac: Add MIDI input to Steel Guitar, please. That sound!).
Definitely a monologue.
The subject matter is for an intended audience rather
than merely an expression of whimsical thoughts though
many can and do frequently confuse the two.
To me, fair friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I eyed,
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters cold
Have from the forests shook three summers’ pride,
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turned
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burned,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green.
Ah, yet doth beauty, like a dial-hand,
Steal from his figure, and no pace perceived;
So your sweet hue, which methinks still doth stand,
Hath motion, and mine eye may be deceived:
For fear of which, hear this, thou age unbred:
Ere you were born was beauty’s summer dead.

The Friend Who Just Stands
When trouble comes your soul to try,
You love the friend who just "stands by."
Perhaps there's nothing he can do-
The thing is strictly up to you;
For there are troubles all your own,
And paths the soul must tread alone;
Times when love cannot smooth the road
Nor friendship lift the heavy load,
But just to know you have a friend
Who will "stand by" until the end,
Whose sympathy through all endures,
Whose warm handclasp is always yours-
It helps, someway, to pull you through,
Although there's nothing he can do.
And so with fervent heart you cry,
"God bless the friend who just 'stands by'!"
William Carlos Williams
“I learned to look more upon the bright side of my condition, and less upon the dark side, and to consider what I enjoyed, rather than what I wanted : and this gave me sometimes such secret comforts, that I cannot express them ; and which I take notice of here, to put those discontented people in mind of it, who cannot enjoy comfortably what God has given them, because they see and covet something that he has not given them. All our discontents about what we want appeared to me to spring from the want of thankfulness for what we have.”
Willem Dafoe quoting Daniel Defoe quoting Robinson Crusoe
Khalil Gibran on Friendship,
Your friend is your needs answered.
He is your field which you sow
with love and reap with thanksgiving.
And he is your board and your fireside.
For you come to him with your hunger,
and you seek him for peace.
When your friend speaks his mind you fear not
the "nay" in your own mind, nor do you withhold the "ay."
And when he is silent your heart ceases not to listen to his heart;
For without words, in friendship, all thoughts, all desires,
all expectations are born and shared, with joy that is unacclaimed.
When you part from your friend, you grieve not;
For that which you love most in him may be clearer in his absence,
as the mountain to the climber is clearer from the plain.
And let there be no purpose in friendship save the deepening of the spirit.
For love that seeks aught but the disclosure of its own mystery
is not love but a net cast forth: and only the unprofitable is caught.
And let your best be for your friend.
If he must know the ebb of your tide, let him know its flood also.
For what is your friend that you should seek him with hours to kill?
Seek him always with hours to live.
For it is his to fill your need, but not your emptiness.
And in the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures.
For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.

@Gravitas
Since we are posting prose about friendship here’s one of mine
Abandon
You are my exercise in abandon.
I would at first hate you
for you would not yield.
I would then despise you
for you would not mind.
I would then loath and curse you
for you would not give.
I recognize then we are no different
save the place and time of our birth,
The names of our lineage
and bearing of our experiences,
the intimacies of our knowledge
and the dance of our lives.
All these things matter not in love
any more than
the direction of your hair
or the space between teeth.
So, I yield. I mind. I give
in love, in hope, and in blessing.
A heart no longer,
no longer knowing alone.
Together with abandon.
Always been a fan of this overall but that last line is a real beauty.
Thanks for the reminder.

'I'll do a sketch of thee,
What kind of pencil shall I use,
2B or not 2B?'

@audiblevideo
Thank you for sharing.
@Ben
Every so often I pull that book out have a good read and say yeah.
A friend gifted me my first copy, I found it to be one of
the singular most important books of the 20th century.
@echoopera ’s quote of William Carlos Williams reminded me of it.
@GeoTony anecdotal story.
Spike Milligan used to live on my road here in London.
Yes @McD this is exactly what I meant, my initial description maybe didn't convey this properly. Thank you for interpreting my drivel
Yes me and mine are doing well
thanks all, looks like maybe I'm not the only one who has been feeling this !
Personally, I hate it when I see a post like "New Korg Gadget Announced!". My heart goes pitter patter and I click only to find that it is someone replying to a thread from three years ago!
I didn't have time to read the rest of this thread, so I'm not sure what the issue is, or whatever... But this is the only forum I've seen where that happens. I would much prefer that people not reply to old threads.
Starting a new post on a topic that may have already been discussed is much better than rebooting some old topic heading from the distant past that turns out to be a false flag for today's reader.
Yes. These false titles are more common than not and the OP has 1 month to do any editing like the OP did here. I have started to look carefully at the date details on every thread and try to avoid giving these titles much credence and starting from the point of skepticism about there being much good news. Good news is generally pretty rare but that's why many have either lost interest in the forum or are just not getting the same rush from their visits.
There are a few creators that spin up threads in an effort to stimulate some essential engagement and I'm sure that doesn't work for everyone if their intent is to gain extra knowledge about Music Production as they practice it.
Communities must embrace diversity to be vibrant and this one does and is. Shouldn't complain really but this zombie thread issue is a downer for the false flags and I'm glad @AndyPlankton called it out.
I'm slowly starting to realize that I no longer suffer from 'app-o-holism' thanks to the fact that there's barely any new, fresh and interesting apps being released and those that do eventually get released are far from 'revolutionary' or 'game changing'.
The lack of new apps has also made it easier for me focus more on what I already have and also appreciate the times when updates to them pop up!
Thankfully this forum is yet to suffer from the bombardment of "Please Advise 'insert random topic'..." threads which irk me when lazy mofo's don't even bother to use Google or the 'grey-thing' that most of use are supposed to have between our ears
One thing I would appreciate though would be that people stop tagging me in random posts about some random apps hoping that I have a solution to their problem. I may have but don't take it for granted that I stay polite and answer stuff that can be found with a simple google search or a bit of rtfm.
Even though I try to stay calm most of the time my 'tolerance bucket' is starting to get full...
No worries though, I'll still try to stay as helpful as I can when it comes to stuff I care about and enjoy using...
...some I have a 'love & hate' relationship with so when sh*t don't work as expected me to get vocal
Don't expect me to have 'every single new apps' from day one...
(I won't say no to promo-codes from devs with 'AB Forum Support' as a reward...
...but only for apps I find 'interesting' and 'worth the effort').
Oh well, it is what it is' maybe I'm just starting to get 'old, grumpy & fed up' (I'll be 50 on 8th of March).
Take Care & Stay Safe Allways!

How about the urge to buy hardware.
Yes... the "gold rush" of app development seems to be grinding to it's inevitable conclusion.
Forums serve that purpose and there will always be someone willing to provide the wrong answers... but with the best intentions... honest.
We need a team of @samu_surrogates (TM). I can see how it would become a burden. It's sort of like the demands placed on developers to continually tweak apps for all use cases. It drives a lot of talent away from the forum but it comes with the demands of tech support which is required but a thankless endeavor in general.
Meditation or medication seem to help.
Thank you for the years of service to the community leveraging your experience and analytical skills.
All good points.
I like when someone adds solved to thread title after the issue has been resolved.
Unless you like providing answers and find an "easy one" but then see someone beat you to it:
"Check the power cord."
"Was it working before you re-installed it?"
"Have you rebooted this year?"
True. In general, Text alone is a horrible way to communicate. It can easily be taken the wrong way. They say 90% of Human Communication is nonverbal, so all that is lost when simply communicating with text. Sure there are emoji’s but it’s not the same.
I don’t think so but Is there a list of forum rules, or a some type of forum etiquette anywhere?
Maybe we could all chip in and put together some basic forum principles we should all try to follow, something in writing so it’s not all abstract. New members might not always know these unwritten rules, that long term members have picked up through experience. Nothing strict, just a loose set of guidelines that we ask all members to follow. Any thoughts? Maybe in the wiki?
Agreed. I’ve been able to do that with a couple of my requests for problem solving in the past, but not if it takes longer than the editable time frame for threads, which I believe is one month. It would be handy in those cases to have a longer editable time limit. I guess there must be a specific reason for the time limit?
Lol. Nice sketch pencil joke.
Is it a month? I was never really sure, I just knew after a certain point the gear button disappeared. There’s been a few times where I asked Mike if he could change it for me, and he did. Only if necessary though, I wouldn’t bug him with minutia.
I actually had a short discussion with him last time I asked him to change a thread title. I asked if there was a way to keep that gear icon up longer and he said something like, I’m paraphrasing here - “ Not sure how to make it editable for longer. I had a quick look, but couldn’t figure it out, at some point I’ll update forum software but it’s a tricky proposition with Vanilla.” Keep in mind this was right before Loopy Pro Release so he was swamped I’m sure.
That I've tried to keep the somewhat under control...
...most recent purchase is a new audio interface (Audient ID4Mk2) which is really nice.
Last year I got a LPPro3 as a birthday gift for myself...
...have not decided yet what to get this year yet.
At some point I will get a new microphone and currently I'm leaning towards the Lewitt 440 Pure...
With that said I'll try to stick to the '1 app per month' and it has to be something truly 'special'.
(The two apps I've gotten this year are BLEASS Omega and AUv3FX PeaQ).
True, but when it's faster to google the answer than post the question I start to wonder the 'sanity' of the poster
I think part of the 'problem/challenge' here is that when ever a new app that has some 'semi-toxic keywords' in it it creates almost un-realistic expectations and feature-creep is almost un-avoidable...
We still have nothing that is even remotely comparable to Ableton Simpler as an example when it comes to feature set.
This is part of the reason why I'm trying to push for Cubase Sampler Track for Cubasis as that would cover a LOT of the sampling needs for many difference scenarios.
(For 'Old School Sampling' Koala, Drambo and SunVox cover the bases more than well enough for me).
Yeah, I just put on the 'ignore glasses' from time to time...
...this forum is quite 'addicting' and I intentionally stay away from discord as that would eat up even more time.
No worries, I'll still stick around and just focus on those apps that I actually love to use on a daily basis
Being a 'Tech Geek' I will keep an eye on iOS/iPadOS but I'm NOT expecting anything revolutionary to drop...
(So no Logic Pro, Live, BitWig, MPC Beats etc. for iPad...).
But then again I love to be proven wrong
Cheers!
The time limit was introduced after one user went through all their old posts and deleted them, going back years.
Admittedly it seemed annoying at the time but people delete their accounts left right and centre these days, although generally their posts still remain, attributed to “deleted user”.
Huh, that’s an interesting little factoid. Never knew that.
@LinearLineman Thanks for the shout out mate. 🙂 One of these days I can lend myself to the forum again...once I overcome this current music creation block. 😅
