@wim - in this case, the EU made the decision. The reasoning is RT and Sputnik are considered Russian-state-controlled propaganda outlets that promote Russian aggression against Ukraine.

That being said, the EU is based on the rule of law so the stations can, and in fact do, attack the ban in court. So the ultimate decision will be made there.

Well, at least that's better than a 15 year prison term, I suppose. ;)

Yes he did, but look how they treated the Duke of Windsor, one rule for one…

The Duke of Windsor wasn't in Germany helping the Nazis during the war. Haw Haw was.

Neither was Mussolini or Tojo. The Duke well he was in France, until his punishment, exile to the Bahamas, where he still kept ‘good’ company.

Not sure of what you are getting at here.

You originally compared the treatment of The Duke and Haw Haw. You seemed to be saying that they should have got the same treatment but The Duke got better treatment because of his royal standing.

My point was one (Haw Haw) was an enemy of the UK. The Duke was not.

I'm not sure why you are bringing Mussolini and Tojo (both enemies of the UK) into this.

The Duke wasn't exiled to the Bahamas. He wanted a miliraty rank and a salary and they gave him that post to get him out of the way.

Your short, unreleated, obscure replies are doing my head in.

Please don't reply with "What about Nixon?"

If anyone cares to look into history you often find it’s not al as Good or Bad, as on cursory glance appears, the story of Joyce and the Duke of Windsor is as good as any place to start.

True, but it depends on what bit of history you look at. I find nothing good to say about The Holocaust. It's all bad.

Your choice of Joyce and The Duke is interesting. Both oddballs.

The holocaust was a most despicable crime, someday I hope humanity forgets, because it no longer does such things. I sincerely hope this, one humanity.

Who gets to decide who should be shut down?

I'd take that job... Alex Jones would be unable to rake in $M's spreading lies about victims of mass shootings. Better yet, I'd send him to jail for his flagrant spreading of misinformation.
Joe Rogan interviewed him because poor Alex wasn't being interviewed anywhere else. It was like 2 bro's chatting about how fucked up the world is when one of them is a major player in the fucking of the world.

There are many Alex Jones... trolls that leverage conflict for clicks and easy money. It's illegal to defraud someone and the types of communicators I'd like to see regulated are committing intentional fraud to sell merchandise or get clicks on ads. They are the lowest of the low. Trump is a perfect example of this type of grifter that adds very little to the world and just takes with the most reprehensible tactics of asking fools for more money. His new social media site is having issues scaling up to be of any use to him. Like all his attempts at legitimate business he's wasting his money (or someone else's in this case) and it will fold pretty quickly, I expect.

Twitter took years to architect a service that could scale like it has and they still didn't find a way to make it pay anything like the ad driven sites and services.

You must listen to Joe Rogan quite a bit?

When his show was on Youtube I'd watch them. He does a reasonable interview and they go on for hours. Elon Musk, Miley Cyrus, Adam Curry... a lot of TV and movie types on promo tours.

The better long form interviewers I use after he was bought by Spotify are Marc Maron's WTF podcast and Kara Swisher's Pivot and Sway podcasts. There's alway places to get fresh points of view and challenge your assumptions.

But there are a lot of lazy thinking non-science types that leverage peoples resentments, anger and alienation. Rush Limbaugh made an industry out of it and the right uses it to drive a "one party over all" agenda. It's anti-democratic by design... it can't entertain the idea of debate based on any shared facts or regulation of an impartial authority. "Can anyone be fair?" Shouldn't someone try? The US Supreme Court is packed with ideologues that have a minority frame of reference on morality that they want to make into law.

I’d agree, but at least he’s open to discussing ‘the taboo’, even if it’s just as a typical ‘shock jock’.

Or some radioactive greeting left on your doorknob. Or a cup of tea with just a hint of polonium. Or a frighteningly attractive top floor window in a highrise near you. 🤷
