Comments
What’s new ? Love Mela 1 and 2 but are we in a pricing model where you buy the same app several time, a la Wotja?
Edit: it seems that you can now use it as an audio source, a fx and a midi source. Clever move
3.0
Mela MIDI Audio Unit:
Mela now ships with the Mela MIDI AUv3 plug-in. It is essentially a MIDI effect that processes incoming MIDI.
The initial version comes with 3 modules: Arpeggiator, Pitch and Velocity.
The modules can be switched on or off.
The Arpeggiator module has 4 parameters: Mode, Rate, Octave Range and Note Length.
The Pitch module transposes notes by up to 24 semitones, in either direction.
The Velocity module offsets and randomizes incoming notes' velocities.
The build-in virtual musical keyboard can also be used as a MIDI input.
As with the other plug-ins, the Mela MIDI parameters can be assigned to the Perform view.
Other:
Mela now has 3 available color themes to choose from: Tangerine (previously Classic), Plum (previously Modern) and Raspberry (new default).
Updated the User Guide.
“ Just a quick reminder, the pricing model I use for Mela is that I release a paid major version once a year. But throughout the year I deliver regular updates for free, adding new features and fixing issues. I'm not a fan of subscription models and I know a lot of iOS users aren't either. Using my approach allows users to buy new major versions of Mela when they feel like they need it, otherwise, they can keep using the previous versions.”

Seems fine to me.
iOS 15 only….
I'll keep on doing beta on Mela X's and feed @Nikolozi with crazy ideas.
That'll be good enough for me
I'm still saving up for a new iPad and the current 'mental process' is a comparison between 2021 128GB 11" iPadPro vs. 2022 256GB iPad Air 5 and wait for WWDC'22 and see what's in store for later as I'm still happy with my iPad Air 2 as a sound module.
Cheers!
I like Mela 1 & 2, so I just bought 3 sight and sound unheard. Figured while it’s on sale right…
I’m sure I can make some use out of it! 😉
My attitude exactly. And it's actually worth it for the new MIDI FX alone. The velocity one is particularly useful.
With Universal trackpad and mouse being rolled out in the latest versions of macOS and iOS/iPadOS, I'm seriously considering handing down my gen 6 iPad Mini to my partner's eldest (she starts her A-levels in September), and getting the new Air as my portable model (the 8GB RAM is the thing that makes all the difference). But I'll only consider the 256GB model as my 256GB iPad Pro is already filling up. That brings it into the same price range as the 11in iPad Pro, but only the base model so the Air still wins for me.
You need a Mac in the mix to be able to make use of Universal trackpad and mouse but the combined setup of iPad and Mac Mini or Macbook Air/Pro makes for a powerful and flexible portable setup for when you're working on-site with a client. I already user Synergy at home for mixed desktop OS keyboard/mouse sharing (Windows, Linux, and macOS), but Synergy doesn't work with iOS/iPadOS.
Wow! Grab 1 & 2 & 3 while you can. I highly recommend the Mela suite. I’ve always been a fan of Nikolazi.
Holy crap this one v3 has 3 Au midi fx built in as well. So it’s multiple synths in one, as well as Au fx, and Au midi fx!
Just purchased.
So did I.
I love mela, my only hope is it’s a little lighter on cpu.
Has anyone imported presets to Mela 3 yet?
From Nikolazi’s Blog on CPU Performance in case anyone is interested….
CPU Performance
Each voice has its own effect units. This allows the FX parameters to be targets in the modulation matrix. Therefore, the more voices you have enabled, the more CPU resources AU will need. Decrease the number of polyphonic voices when possible and bypass the FX units that you don't need to run the AU more efficiently.
Most components can be turned off when not used. When the following parameters are set to Off their owning components are disabled and stop consuming CPU resources:
Oscillator Waveform
Filter Type
Envelope Mode
LFO Waveform
Enveloper Follower Input
Decreasing the number of modulations in the Modulation Matrix will also help with the performance
This totally made my day.
You can import Mela 2 presets into Mela 3.
Longtap on the user bank in Mela 2 and export the presets and then in Mela 3 long tap on the user bank and import...
(Tried this during beta and it works fine).
Cheers!
After some initial issues with Mela 2, it has become one of my favorite synths. Just tons of flexibility and it works on both iOS and macOS like a charm. I'll be getting this new one.
Anyone got the link to Mela 1 ?
App Store not finding it
Thanks
Cheers thanks @Samu do the banks import properly as well? Did you do them all at once?
For those who don’t know there’s a few free banks in this forum. One from Sounds of Israel SOI, and a couple others. I believe they are also posted on Nikolozi website.
If you want to try something that will blow your socks of try this preset I cooked up during Mela beta...
https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ioj4aii3foz8nw/Blaster.melainstrument?dl=0
Levels are kept under control so it will not 'clip' but it's very LOUD!
Can be used as a bass, lead etc. enjoy hehe...
I will do that. Thank you very much.
I see the patch name is Blaster.

You can select multiple files at once when you import (tap the select on top right) and use 'select all'(top left) or manually check all presets you want to import.
Really nice, like shredding on electric guitar.
Thanks @Poppadocrock
But not working
Mela 1 and 2 are under a different developer page now

@sharifkerbage
Thanks
Instabuy!
VST wrappers for these would be great so they can be used in other DAWs besides logic.
As a midi Au fx there are three tools, 8 factory presets, but you can also make and save your own combinations of the 3 midi tools as user presets. Dope.
Am I the only one still on iOS 14?
@MAtrixplan have you thought about doing the Loopy Pro model? It’s very similar to what you’re already doing but a little more elegant and means you only need to maintain one app (and if you do it, can I suggest you call it Mela Infinity 😉)
