I wonder if there will be an AB->IAA workaround someone comes up with like putting Audioshare into AB and then inserting audioshare into iMPC via IAA. I've hardly used IAA at all so I dunno if that sorta stuff is even possible.

I'm pretty much with you @mmp. These are likely deal breakers for me. But, a lot a lot a lot a lot of amazing music has been made with hardware MPCs in complete isolation/stand alone. Far inferior MPCs too! At what, 50 times the probable asking price?

I agree! When you look back at the limited amount of memory, limited storage (floppy disks, zip disks, etc) of the early drum machines it is truly amazing what has been produced. When you compare the features, memory and storage of IOS-based systems and then compare the costs it truly is a crazy bargain.

As far as no AB, I was initially upset/disappointed but I'm over it. I figure, since iMPC Pro will have IAA node capability I can still pull up non-IAA synths in the same host with iMPC. That will do until either Retronyms adds AB (unlikely) or the other synths add AB (likely). There are also some pretty powerful synths available now that have IAA (Nave, iSEM, iVCS3, Z3ta to name a few:)

  • I'm just really doubting I'll become an early adopter of this app. The old iPad performance scares me, the price and file size are still unknown, and the IAA is a final nail in the coffin. It's interesting to see where we're headed, though, with the news that the recent AudioBus update made it so that AB is basically using IAA underneath the hood to transfer sound between apps.

  • The iOS ecosystem needs an IAA to Audiobus wrapper. Something that will load any IAA compatible app, and then load into Audiobus and allow the IAA app to work as if it were an Audiobus app. This could be a FANTASTIC Audiobus IAP that I bet everyone would pay for! The more I think about it, the more excited I get! :-) There are wrappers like this all over in the VST world, so it is definitely possible to do, and who better to do it and add it to audiobus than the audiobus developers! At that point, it won't matter what the developers like Retronyms do, we'll still be able to use their app the way we want to! I'm going to start a new thread and poll!

  • Sold. Cash waiting.

Day one purchase. Simply due to me being (music)appoholic. I never ended up using the iMPC, despite all the great samples & kits. But this one is at least integrated with the rest of iOS via IAA (it's better then nothing), so I'm pretty sure I'll be usng this one. I'll also fill it up with all the kits from iMaschine, which is completely cut off from the rest of iOS land.

Edit: BTW, four days left to release according to my crystal ball....s. If I'm wrong, I'll film myself runSyNtAX eRroR

  • OK, thread discussion and poll open here:

That way I don't derail this thread! :-)

  • Not sure what significance this has.....

iMPC Pro should work with any class-compliant midi device (that you can set up channels, etc with).

  • Sounds like at least SOME midi is inside the app, @DaveMagoo. :-)

  • The auto grouping/tagging for sounds, search for files and top level paste button == winning. Would like to see how to delete them!

  • I wonder if impc pro within tabletop will stay the same or will it be a restricted version like impc and imini?

I just have to look at the facts I know well....
Everything from Retronyms is crippled in some way.
Everything from Retronyms is higher than it should be.
Support can be dropped in 1 minute.
No audiobus! So if you want to sample grainscience, mitosynth, animoog...well too bad
No audiobus...if you want to actually use the impc pro in any kind of audiobus chain well...too bad
This company just charged 3 bucks for strike? And it absolutely sucks.
Imini is still not a stable synth
No matter how hard I try, I just can't see tabletop as a serious music tool...it's limited, it's not deep, and the stuff they are selling are just GUI's on top ios provided tools....the eq for instance is the same eq as bm2 (3 band). Why did I have to buy it....
The price hasn't been announced but the app is already submitted...that's a red flag
    Hopefully I don't have to unlock 20 Iaps ?
I'm just not excited about this app....impc pro.
It already cripples my workflow by not providing me with audiobus, which to me is a standard

And despite all of that all some people find a way to make good music using it. I guess it depends on operator.

Anyhow these are the audio bus compatible apps that I know can be used in tabletop.

    Stroke Machine,
    Arctic ProSynth,
    Addictive Synth,
    Bismark bs-16i,
    CTRL,
    Cube Synth,
    Drumjam,
    DM1,
    Funkbox,
    DXi FM Synth,
    Elsa,
    iTuttle,
    Modal Pro,
    Sunrizer,
    Alchemy,
    Z3Ta+,
    ifretlessBass,
    IDensity,
    iSem,
    iSyn Poly,
    iVCS3,
    iMini,
    microTERA,
    Nanologue,
    Nave,
    Thesys,
    SECTOR,
    SampleTank,
    Stria,
    Stryke,
    Yamaha Synth Arp,
    TF7,
    ThumbjamVoice Synth,
    Galileo Organ,
    Magellan,
    Chordion,
    DrumPerfect,
    djay2,
    Earhoof,
    Different Drummer,
    Mobile POD,
    Shapesynth,
    TC-11

  • Actually tabletop could in theory be great (I strongly prefer using ONE app with plugins to several apps cobbled together), but they really nickle and dime customers.
I can see why one would pay for iMPC, iMini or iMPC pro, but buying a reverb or compressor is incredibly silly with the exception of pro plugins like the ones in Auria. It's just something that has to be there, at least with decent quality.

Anyway, what Arturia and Akai are doing is foolish. Instead of building in-house expertise they depend on other developers.

  • Does anyone know if iMPC Pro will have multiple velocity-layered samples per pad?

    Oops wrong thread...sorry...

My guess is no. They didn't show it in any of the videos and I didn't see any bits of UI that would suggest its inclusion. It's a shame, really but with 64 tracks X 64 pads per program... there are ways around the limitation.

  • Retronyms have said this will be in store on 8th July

Cool. Could you point me to a source, so I can change the topic title, without getting killed if it doesn't show up:)

  • I thought it was kittens that would be killed?

Naw. That was another app. And me being the executioner! (All but one made it out alive tough!)

  • Ok, thanks. Last mail I got was the one saying it was submitted.

  • Any word on price yet?

  • @ChrisG. Somebody edit your previous post :p. Lol! Syntax error

  • (Rumored rel. date Tuesday July 8th)

Oh! ye of little faith @ChrisG :-)

  • I saw the retronyms twitter and say that in the mail is the price too. So is a good price?

  • It is a good price

  • Come on people! You didn't sign a non-disclosure agreement when you signed up for the email news. How much will the good price be?

  • A random person said a price on twitter a few hours ago, if you search for 'impc pro' but I have no way of knowing if it's accurate.

Ok the tweet mentioned I'm guessing is this one:

"@vanmorrison2: iMPC Pro will be available in the App Store on Tuesday, July 8! iMPC Pro is $19.99, but for a limited time after launch, it will be $12.99"
