  • Wait! It doesn't sync within a DAW?!? That is a basic assumption! It's necessary!!!

  • Is it worth getting Beatmaker2 if I'm planing on buying iMpc pro, also what's the difference between Bm2 & Bm HD?

Right? Well, we don't know for sure but it doesn't look good. He did manual start/stop in the IAA video.

No one knows until we try it and ultimately, only you will know. If you're planning on buying iMPC Pro anyway, I'd wait. See what it does, see what it's missing and make your next buy based on that.

BM HD has nothing to do with Intua Beatmaker. Do not buy it. http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/3114/beatmaker-studio-hd/p1

Thanks, good to know, I'll hold off.

Yeah, I noticed that too. Frustrating!!!

It depends on your workflow. Bm2 has a usual left to right timeline which you can use for continuous audio/midi or chop it into segments and copy/paste and move them around. I'm not certain but doesn't look like mpc pro has that.

  • Just revisited all of the videos for iMPC Pro - I am so psyched for this (two sleeps!!).

No MIDI Sync makes this a toy, not a pro MPC app

If what you've just said is true then all of IOS music is a joke.

  • I make music - I don't read labels!!

Pissing contests about what gets you to the end result should always be settled on the turntable or the dance floor, the backseat or at the graveside, not in the tech room.

  • Just the thought that Retronyms would release this app without being able to sequence it in Cubasis makes me feel dissapointment.

I mean you can't seriously tell me that all through development they never thought 'Hey I wonder if we should implement midi in/out/sync ?'.

We will see soon enough I guess :)

    Good stuff fellas!

I agree if you can't connect to your DAW then its just a sketchpad. It could be a very powerful instrument inside both the desktop and the iDAWs if only this was possible!

I think that an iOS music forum is the perfect place to discuss the apparent shortcomings of the app under discussion. It seems that Retronyms have used the low ratings of the first app as a springboard to release a new, pricier app that again leaves out some of the most important features to its users while trying to push them into Tabletop. Not unusual business practice maybe but also not a benefit to its users (of which there is one less now). Happy to see excitement but in this case equally happy to see criticism. It's warranted.

  • Agreed. Need to have a shave. Must be getting too bristly :)

Same. And I might be taking all this a little too seriously haha. I hope that everyone who buys this app has a blast with it.

All great points me thinks. Track record and unknown features aside, I'm curious as to why there is excitement for this app. Does it do something other apps don't do? Does it replace a couple of apps? Is it fondness for the hardware MPC series? Please, do tell...

  • Does Beatmaker2 work with AudioBus?

  • Yes it does

    Cool, thanks

In my case the excitement comes from the fact that I've been waiting for the mpc style sampler for some time now. The impc was clearly a lemon but the pro version sounds like what the original should have been. Yes it doesn't support audiobus but does IAA which is better than nothing. Also, at last there is a one app that suddenly comprises a sampler, synths and more, in one handy package under a name Tabletop where all is midi clock synced and ready for you to play at a drop of a hat. That's not a small feat man. Excitement is a good thing.

  • Also, at last there is a one app that suddenly comprises a sampler, synths and more, in one handy package under a name NanoStudio where all is midi clock synced and ready for you to play at a drop of a hat.

    ;)

  • Yeah I know, but I personally never got on with the candy looks of NS and didn't go crazy about Eden either. I'm in the BM2 camp too. ;)

  • @syrupcore did you just quote yourself?

  • Such an arms race isn't it? And good for us that it is....

  • I'm going to sit this one out but lurk to see the reactions to this thing. Despite the hype/buildup seeming to suggest a letdown, I think it looks encouraging enough that people will generally like it. I guess in my case I'm just not seeing the need for a standalone sampler with this degree of detail within the app. I'm actually a big fan of .wav samples for percussion, so I definitely "could use it", but there are tons of sample players out there (including my favorite, EasyBeats 3, which has velocity and pitch control per step, along with filters and some effects).

Obviously, iMPC Pro has a sexy license and a ton more built-in editing features and effects, but it just seems like a lot of that (and much more) could be done by creating a raw sample track and then running it through effects plugins in Auria (or even other AB-compatible apps). Then again, I'm not a very sophisticated user, so I hope the launch goes well and it's the next great iOS app! No AudioBus is a bummer, but the distinction between AB & IAA may be gradually eroding anyway...

the IAA video was released a few weeks before Retronyms submitted it to Apple. Maybe they corrected it. I guess we will find out in a day or so.......

  • I wonder if this is gonna be one of those timezone/midnight releases, or if they have a set time. Anyone manage to snoop up some info on that somewhere?

I do hope it's easy to import a lot of samples at once. IE making a folder hierarchy on your computer, slap those folders into it via iFunbox and have it keep your folder structure with kit names etc intact. I'm looking at you iMaschine...Ur kits r mine..
