Is that to make a wired controller bt? I bought this. Works fine but I think you need to buy an OTG cable ( from ebay ) or the widi uhost OTG cable. I say you need this type of cable. Not just because its the type that cme sells but a chap on a thread before buying. Said he were always trying to find a cabe that worked. Might not have known about OTG.

lol. I bought the controller plus the widi uhost (£100 ). Just to map in video. Havent used since but you just connect cables. This were powered from a usb psu. Cable goes from psu to widi. Another cable from widi to controller. Bt were to djplayerpro for turntable dvs ( cue points )

If I find a cable. I will see if I can make a faderfox bt. Cant see why you couldnt use uhost with ec4. The controller feels like it has lag anyway because its a rotary encoder.

All you need controller wise for computing. Is a rotary encoder. A launchpad perhaps. Bonus controller an mpe.

I used DJPlayerPro when I had my Photon Fader! It worked really well but the nest of wires was too much for me to both with so I ended up getting a Phase/Traktor/Z2 setup (far from portable!) and an SC500 (VERY portable). I was thinking I might try using the SC500 with timecode samples and see if I can use it with DJPlayerPro as DVS without needing to load all the samples onto the SC500. Might be a ballache, but could be fun, especially with multiple decks. I guess I'd need to bypass the internal fader in the SC500 so I'd have to use a Raiden fader or something like that (well, it would be a Raiden in my case because I already do have one so that would be easiest to try)

Sorry, you mentioned DJPlayerPro and I went on a total tangent there!

No worries. An sc500 ( thought you ment a denon ) but remember these as a prototype. Didnt realize you could buy. Might not have bought a headache sound omni but its rad for me.

This app thermo is great. Its like an ocoast system ( without the ocoast ? ) Like the cortini vibe.

Wish I could buy hainbach level headphones.

Thnx Pete, I'd probably rather wait for a dedicated Bluetooth rotary encoded controller, there's bound to be one coming I'd imagine.

Read up the section near the end of the thermo manual about controllers and you will understand what i mean about why nanokontrol doesn't really cut muster!

Yeah, Portablism Gear in Germany make/sell them and the the SC1000 (MK2) thankfully - it was never going to be something I would DIY

Interesting that you compare Thermo to Strega. I haven't looked too closely at what AC's Make Noise collab does for fear of extreme GAS!

  • The sounds Thermo produces are so awesome, I love it.

But overall it’s quite buggy at the moment, I have to say. And the process to manage presets and banks is just far too convoluted. I still haven’t managed to create presets or a new bank without overwriting something (I think). Just now I wanted to try again, only for parts of the user interface to vanish.

What’s the best strategy to deal with that, apart from contacting the developer? Exporting all the existing banks to have a backup, and then just messing around? What are your experiences?

Wheres the manual Gav? If you can explain. It might tell me if there will be issue mapping faderfox pc12.

    Got the manual.

  • edited April 2022

Debbie downer. A faderfox pc12 cant be mapped to Thermo and maybe Fundamental. No more need for controller.

Will need to use ec4 for soniclabs and faderfox pc12 for mononoke.

    Arm ache though.

  • Anyone know about encoders.

    http://www.faderfox.de/PDF/EC4 Manual V02.pdf

    https://www.sonic-lab.com/Thermo/Thermo-iOS_manual.pdf

Set up before but not for high resolution. Not sure if ccah or nrpn

Thermo manual says theres cc hardwired ( 32-35 ) for frequency parameter for example.

nrpn mode on ec4 controller, for encoder has the usual 0-127 but also another option for 0-127

Aum just detects midi channel but always says cc is 99.

Same here, love it but I get very regular and irreplicable sound drop outs with many presets I made in AUM which require quitting the instance of Thermo and opening a new one. Sometimes the presets play fine, other times not, it's bizarre. I'm in touch with Sinan trying to work out the causes.

  • Reading the ec4 isnt even good encoders ( even though 14 bit ) A midi fighter better etc.

Surely we can make a Thermo slider work?

I got an encoder controller also. Not sure how it/what parameters will work but will let you know.

The dev posted a vid on YouTube of him messing around with encoders. Looks really fun

Encoders work. Encoder button on app needs to be ( ON ) The 16 finer tune faders with an official cc number given in manual. Controller needs to point directly at app in aum matrix. Instead of midi in aum matrix and then choosing from exposed parameter list in aum. You can still use parameter list in aum for the other parameters.

Think its how it works but have just mapped a few parameters.

  • Dont think you need an encoder though. A cheap pencil is fine. This way. You will probably make better patches and still have as good control. Instead of overly tweaking app, with encoders.

Agreed, A pen is great for controlling this and Fundamental! And most other things, I must say...

  • Has anyone had any luck importing .scl scale files? It was a breeze with fundamental, but doesn't seem to work with thermo

  • @sevenape said:

Message the dev. It should work. Also, he reckons the audio dropouts I'm getting come from storing new presets I make as AUM presets rather than internal presets in the app. Will check this out but if anyone has any feedback on this would be useful. Either way, if it can't handle AUM presets but can handle internal ones, it's s bug, so will hopefully get fixed.

  • edited April 2022

Also - I’ve only ever saved AUM-native presets with these apps. Who can explain to me in clear terms how to a) make my own preset bank while the app is loaded in AUM b) save my existing AUM-native presets to it? I’d be very grateful for any guidance! Love the app but the preset system is bizarre for those of us used to ios.

    Cheers

Thanks, will do! Good luck with your dropout issue

  • Sounds great when it’s working but it’s a crackle fest on my 8th gen iPad most of the time. It might be a bit underpowered for running this :(.

One thing i definitely haven't had on the 2018 ipad Pro is any crackling or dsp problems, even with s few instances, so yeah this is definitely your device!

I have the 2020 ipad (normal one) and it doesn't seem to crackle, or at least I haven't noticed it, but I tend to do things on the noisier side.

  • Thanks chaps. I’ve done a proper reboot of the device and increased the buffer size in AUM a bit. So far so good, no more crackles 🤞

    @Gavinski
Hi Gav - OK, this is how I do it (and forgive me if you already know this method and are looking for something easier):
    1. Open Thermo standalone - this should create a Thermo folder on your ipad, accessible from the Files app, with 2 subfolders - PresetBanks and scl (for custom scales).
    2. Still within the standalone app, tap on the grey line below where it shows the loaded bank and the L and S (preset load and save) buttons - this reveals further controls to import / export banks.
    3. With one of the 'standard' banks loaded, tap the 'EXP' (up arrow) button and you will be prompted for a name and location to save the bank.
    4. Name it whatever you want (you're basically making a direct copy of the bank with all the presets) and save it in the Thermo/PresetBanks folder on your ipad.
    5. Now, to make it available in the bank selection list in both standalone and plugin, you actually need to import it, so still in standalone tap on the 'IMP' (down arrow) button and select the bank you just saved.
    6. It should now show as an available bank in the list that you access by tapping on the bank name. Although this is just a copy of the original set of presets you can at least overwrite them by loading one, making the changes to create your own, renaming it (tap on the existing preset name) then hitting 's'.

(This process also works with Fundamental.)

Yep - it SHOULD be so much easier but good luck asking Sinan to redesign his baby...👍
