  • While we‘re at it, how is everyone’s experience with the OP-Z regarding build quality?
I think it would be the perfect device for me, but all the talk about bending, double triggers and misbehaving encoders make them look like they are ‘hunks of cheap disposable junk‘. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I bought one of the 1st gen versions, and I encountered the Double Trigs, and my main Power/Volume knob always falls off, even after buying a new one.

Not sure how they've improved the build and QA recently. But all that aside, it is a wonderful instrument to use and pair with iOS and the desktop. he sequencer is 2nd to none.

Would you say it‘s worth 500€?

  • I would say yes, but it's really dependent on your needs. At this stage, I'd invest in using Dramno to sync external synths and the like.

  • I never understand how people can get so upset if something is expensive, or too expensive for them, as if there was a human right to every product available. If it is too expensive for you, don't buy it. Buy something cheaper and try to be happy!

When TE announced the TX6 I bought one, now I have used it for a few hours and absolutely love it. I was so much waiting for something like that, it perfectly suits my needs. I would have prefered it to be 25% larger, the middle row of pots are a bit hard to use and the inputs are really close to each other. It would have been a killer feature, if there was a recording option to micro SD, but I don't need that.

Surely I would want this thing to cost 300€, but it doesn't. It is a beautiful object, really nicely done and I appreciate this.

Together with AUM it rocks. It drives my headphones really good, sounds great on my PA, works perfectly with my ipad.

Really all I wanted. Try it before you knock it!

(p.s.: my daughter keeps on nicking this baby to fidgeting around with it just for the haptics...)

Dude, if we can’t afford it at least let us moan!!

I've owned two now and have no issues with bending, triggers, or knobs coming off and I take mine all over the place from backpacking to mountain bike rides. Mine came with the one of the TE vinyl cases and I keep it in that for everything, though the box it comes in is only a little bit bigger and even more padded if you're really worried about it.

Now that’s what I was hoping to hear…
If I‘d get one from Thomann I‘d get a three year warranty, so I could always return faulty devices…Maybe I should go for it… but I have to safe up some more anyways 😬

  • Tho OpZ‘s built quality is indeed horrible. with mine the backplate is loose, the feed keep on getting loose, the encoders popped out til I fixed them, the locking mechanism for the op lab module is unreliable.

But the sound of that little sucker is amazing.

the tx6 is in a completely different league of manufacturing

Well, that was not what I was hoping to hear…
Would you say the cons outweigh the pros?

the tx6 is in a completely different league of manufacturing

    But also the price.

  • Would you say the cons outweigh the pros?

definitely not! this thing is absolutely amazing. it is just important to treat it a bit carefully and get a decent case for it. I use a Nomos watch wallet for it. I had mine since it came out and it traveled the world, but still looks good. a bit of electricians tape sort most problems, just don‘t get your knickers in a twist about it.

    use it and enjoy it!

  • Just like with the new Ik interface I think they’ve missed a trick not putting a recorder in it. It would fit a lot of niches if it could also record.

I don’t have the budget for it myself but I’m glad things like this exist.

  • I have both the Bluebox and the Blender and kinda wish someone would smoosh them together. The routing and recording capabilities of the Bluebox and the multichannel interface of the Blender are crying out to be brought together. If TE had gone for the recording instead of sound generation and sequencing, I’d find the price easier to swallow: it’d be like a ridiculously miniaturised and stylish Zoom L12. But a ridiculously miniaturised and stylish Blender, with a couple of Pocket Operators thrown in, doesn’t seem worth it to me.

I got semi-lucky with my OP-Z’s build quality. The loose backplate and bending issues “only” affect my Oplab module’s connectivity. I have to use a foldback clip to get the internal contacts to work!

People are right to complain about the OP-Z’s iffy durability issues. I do think it was a slightly misconceived product: slightly too ambitious portability to match its sequencing power. But to dismiss Teenage Engineering products as overpriced toys doesn’t appreciate what they’re trying to do — delightfully designed things generally do command a higher price tag. I just wish the OP-Z had gone through a more rigorous materials testing process. Because stuff you can’t rely on is not delightful.

They did say this was the first of the new “field” line. I could see a companion tape machine perhaps adding a fold out crank and adding tape effects etc.

That was my second thought when I read the specs!
At least it's small enough to use it as an iPhoneweight to join the multitrack recording club.

What I dislike most in TE is that although the common issues are obvious, they don't fix them either by offering free and better replacements or at least by releasing fixed new versions to go on sale. Money earned "so far" could have been invested like that but it wasn't.

  • I bought a TX-6 with field case and the Off-White OB-4

The video where the guy complains about the TX-6 case is unfortunate - idk what’s going on with that guy but the problem is him, not the case. The device fits in the case just fine and is fully closable.

  • My most frustrating thing is that you can only choose between 12 USB inputs, 12 USB outputs, or 2 in 2 out. I want more of a mix of in/out to combine virtual instruments with analog which is impossible without giving up multitrack recording

  • Mentioned on Sonicstate this evening that the mixer may just be the start of a new line up for Teenage engineering so something big being announced tomorrow at Superbooth.

Neat Beat Trick! Be great to see this sync technology move to other devices

  • 1) There’s no way he got that “janky” walkman for a dollar

    2) Do men wear mustaches in earnest (unironically) anymore? I can’t take seriously anybody of my generation who has one

    3) LOLed when he gets the head bounce going at the end of the vid. LOL electronic musicians and their “grooving”

OK, that’s really remarkable. Does the TE mixer work only with other Teenage Engineering gear? Or could you beat match into your iPad or a Digitakt, I wonder?

Sends BPM over Midi and BlueTooth :)

This mixer is really impressive feature set wise.

  • That is impressive. But as ever, it always comes with the Teenage Engineering breathtaking price tag. You think, F— it, this kind of ingenuity and inspiring workflow is worth a premium! And you come up with a figure in your head that's the ceiling, and then you think, it's probably 10 percent more than that. And then — wow, it's double what you thought would be the limit!

Doesn't Korg have something similar with the Volcas? There's an app, Korg SyncKontrol, that uses bluetooth to let you sync your Volca to a DAW. I've used it with Ableton, but I wonder if it would work with AUM or iOS apps?

Lol, sorry you took it personally.

I want an OP1 Field. I had the old model, but the audio out was pants, and as storage was low on the device, it ended up as an expensive non-velocity MIDI keyboard - until I swapped it for other stuff.

I thought it was expensive then (about £650), but the new version is three times more expensive than that.

With the (fixed) new features, and better hardware, a fair price would be about £800, around the same price as a Syntakt. But nearly £2k is seriously taking the mick. Not that I would pay £800 either, but even so…

And yes, this new mixer is the dogs nads. But again, a breathtaking price tag.

  • 12 in 12 out mode, finally!! Game changing

    Also usb audio host mode

  • Cool. Updated going to try this tonight.

I cant find any info on usb audio host mode and what I can do with it, can you give any pointers?

  • I didn't find good info yet because it was rushed out for TP-7 support before they had docs. I haven't checked since then, sorry
