Cubasis 1.8.1 (and new importer) now available!

Hello all,

The new maintenance update Cubasis 1.8.1 has been released by apple.
Bellow is a list with some of the new features:

  • Bluetooth, AirPlay and HDMI audio out support
  • New noise gate effect
  • Extended transport controls in the audio editor

Here are the improvements:

  • Setup redesign
  • Selecting a channel in the mixer automatically scrolls its corresponding track into the visible area above the mixer.
  • After splitting an event only the newer part becomes selected.
  • Selecting a track is now also possible by touching its adjacent area in the arrange window.
  • When recording with the on-board keyboard the corresponding MIDI track gets autoscrolled into the visible area above the keyboard.
  • Double-tap resets the values of the transpose popup.
  • Mixer view gets updated if a track has been selected and its corresponding channel in the mixer is invisible.
  • Behaviour of MIDI and automation editor tools has been improved.
  • Tempo popup button behaviour has been improved.

For a more detailed bug fix list please follow the link bellow:

EDITED: The update is now available.

Best regards,

  • You guys are really productive - great work, thanks.

  • It's a lot of stuff for an x.x.1 update ;-) Thanks!

  • Super! I'm most excited about this one:

Behaviour of MIDI and automation editor tools has been improved.

I have always struggled a bit with connecting the MIDI editor to my brain, so hopefully this makes them compatible. :)

  • Excellent support for an exeptional daw. Thanks for the love of your work guys!

  • finally :)

CB-1288 Snap and quantization grid settings are now saved with the project.

CB-1850 MIDI Inputs assignment with external apps now works as expected.

  • Great news! Thanks!

  • Cool!

  • All good stuff, thanks for the regular updates.

  • Is there a way to have just the mixer, full height, yet? For live use. Which also means - please, PLEASE, put monitoring back into AudioBus mode. Live is just not possible without live monitoring, level control. aux sends, etc. And although monitoring is still there for IAA, the Apps list is still depressingly short.

    ^this...

Live monitoring is a strange omission.....could it change with the IAA architecture?

...and long throw higher precision faders are very desirable...

  • Hello all,

Cubasis 1.8.1 is now available from the app store.

    Best regards,

...or a way to fine tune knobs/faders.Or to type in values...jeez,still so many basic things missing ;)

    Anyway,thanks for the update!

  • this thing is getting GOOD! thanks so much!

  • I picked up Cubasis in a fit of frustration over the weekend, and only wound up becoming more frustrated.

This thing has certain elements down (MIDI routing is great, CC automator isn't perfect but it's the best/easiest option I've seen for a CC editor in iOS, yet). However, an app that focused on the piano roll, and the zoom function is that bad? Make no mistake, the zoom functionality on Cubasis is almost unacceptably bad. As well, the sample editor is unexact to the point of making me want to scream. Beatmaker's sample editor makes the one in Cubasis seem like a cruel joke. Also, having IAA effects on a channel but not the ability to resample to "bake" in the effects is very frustrating.

Sorry for the rant, but my experience has been bitterly disappointing so far.

  • Well, if you STARTED frustrated.... Lol.

@CalCutta: you can freeze every channel.Just press the button with the little snowflake and delete the original (now muted) track/file if you don't need it anymore (check the setup for different options).Cubasis automatically creates a new audiotrack, the FX are now included/rendered into this file.Just one click,it's really that easy...

regarding sample editor:what do you mean with"unexact"?Probably the fact that you can't (fine)trim samples even with a deactivated quantization? There is always some quantization going on,makes it VERY frustrating to finetrim samples.Ridiculous.I posted it a couple of times in the steinberg forum but i gave up on it,they don't seem to care.

Never had any issues with audiotracks on Cubasis. That's one of the features I like actually. I'm talking about editing MIDI in the piano roll. Zooming to get to specific places is laughably bad.

The sample fine-trim is exactly what I was talking about in the editor. It's horrible!

  • Yeah i got what you said about the Midi editor.Have to say that i find it easier to use than in beatmaker. To each his own i guess. But i'm not doing that much in the Midi editor.I record most things live and correct some notes or auto quantize everything.

  • Installed and i like it

  • Best midi editing is in Nanostudio, I think BM 2 may have been influenced by that..;-)

  • Folks - I've raised the Q on the Cubasis forum already - and of course I know the Cubasis folks are here too. But - I'm really asking here to reality check myself :-) I noticed recording an Audiobus track that I couldn't change the levels. Is this new? Or did that disappear a couple of revisions back. I use Cubasis a lot - but missed that I guess, but in the course of recording a more complex multitrack piece I wanted to level set the Audiobus track in the mix while recording but not longer could.

Did I just miss this before? Or is this something in this revision. In any case IMO it needs changing "back" to have the ability to level-set and monitor Audiobus input as well as live input.

    Thoughts?

  • Yeah I noticed the level on an audiobus track could be changed only after something was recorded to that track. And even after that, the live input signal's not affected by Cubasis's channel strip, only the recorded audio.

  • So this is new - correct @CalCutta? I didn't just invent this as something new in my own mind right? ;-)

  • I have no idea, Cubasis is less than a week old on my machine, too ;)

  • The new Noise Gate is cool - I was able to get a huge gated reverb drum sound using the built in drums with only a little fiddling with the controls!

I had totally misunderstood this the first time I read it. I just tried this and it worked with IAA effects. So resampling is possible at least. Thanks for the tip!

I asked a bit back....had no reply yet...

  • I found that frozen tracks I create sound a little muffled. Wonder if it's downsampling?

I referred earlier to a gated reverb drum sound, I used it in this track and thought I'd share so you can hear an example - it's the second half (you should notice...!)
