If he's travelled as far as here there's no way back
Was thinking about this again last night, and the whole subject of appaholism, and was trying to figure out what I'm in for as regards total spend on apps. About half way through I remembered the 303 I bought a lifetime ago when I was sharing a house in London with a pretty decent sound engineer who decided we should cash in on "this new dance thing that's going round".
Here's a good reminder:

What I would have given then for the (electronic) riches I have now...
Thanks for the help, do you have a collective name, like 'audiobusers' for example ?
There is plenty of time for me to get out, I have ordered a lighting cable but it has yet to arrive. I do have an addictive nature but I also get bored very quickly so I am either going to be all in or all out. Im not in to electronic music, so this will be essentially guitar, bass, drums and vocals. I want to create a raw, almost live sound. If I get anywhere near what I have in my head I will be happy.
What are your set ups in relation to vocals ? What mics do you use ?
Thanks for all your advice so far
Appaloosers?

The Shure SM58 seems to be the standard. Here is a thread with a video of some hip hop pros using an Apogee One.
Shure sm58 for live use but I'd go for a condenser for the studio use. Just search the net based on your budget, there's plenty of reviews. Of course there will be people here who'll advice. I've heard Rode and Octavia mics are good mid range quality/price choices. I have a couple of cheap Studio Project ones but I don't think they're fantastic.
Did we settle on 'Audiobuskers'? I forget...
For mic advise, spend some time searching/browsing around http://messageboard.tapeop.com/
Actually the internal search engine blows. Use Google like:

How much do you want to spend on a mic?
OT:
lol, I hate the title of this thread!
Each time I read it while scanning the topics, one thing I do know is, this will be going through my mind all day...
"If you knew...Peggy Sue...then you know why I feel blue without Peggy...My Peggy Sue-eh-ue-ue" etc.
fortunately, it is one of my favorite songs... ;-)
"If I had to do it all over again, I'd do it all over you..." - Caravan.
I already have a standard mic, think I bought it from Maplin. Can I plug this into my guitar interface ? I have read on here some people are just using the built in mic ?
Quite the quotable quote @PaulB! Lol!
@houseofhounds Depends on the mic and the interface.
Are you looking to get a single mic to cover vocals and guitar? If so, consider a large diaphragm dynamic mic like the Heil PR-40 or the Shure SM-7. They're both lifetime microphones.
If you want to get a single mic that you can also use to track drums (using a single mic), consider a large diaphragm condenser instead. In this case, it has everything to do with how much money you want to spend and how long you're willing to take positioning your single mic! An AT4047 is another lifetime mic that will do it all and do it all well. Or maybe an AT4050 because it will do figure-8 and omni as well as a more traditional cardiod pattern.
