It took a while, but my latest Drambo tutorial is here. It's a 45 minute epic on the new Step Sequencer Values Editor, including loads of tips and tricks! Please like and subscribe if you haven't already, to inch me over 200 followers!

Let's talk about the Step Sequencer Values Editor in Drambo 2.0! Velocity, gate, offset, probability, retrig, cycle, components... the gang's all here! Who re-recorded voiceover for the intro because he originally said 'sequence' rather than sequencer? This guy! That's attention to detail!

Your man of the people tackles the SSVE with the blind optimism that he can get it all done in 15 minutes, but 45 minutes later he's still going. Now he needs a sit down - metaphorically, obviously, because he was seated throughout.

In this video, you WILL learn about all the different sections of the SSVE. You WILL hear loads of workflow tips and how to ensure you never play the same sequence twice. You WILL continue to wonder if good music can ever be made during a tutorial. You WILL hear about a current bug. And we'll end with a roundup of a few of the useful types of step components in the 'Comp' tab.

If you're into this kind of thing, please like and subscribe! And don't forget to comment below to let me know what you'd like me to cover in future tutorials.

    Hilarious.

I've been looking at those two note thingies for ages in the PR roll.
I've learnt something new today. 😁

    Good video.

    Really like the quips.

Thanks! Drambo has so many little touches, it's nigh-on impossible to keep track of them all.

    Amazing @Gravitas

  • Drambo Lee7 @Gravitas showing what can be done when when applies themselves to the alchemical process of revelation through sound and motion. Brilliant work mate👊🏼™️💕

  • big thanks @giku_beepstreet for whatever you did to improve cpu efficiency in the v2. it's a dramatic improvement on an m1 ipad pro. i use Drambo for an elaborate virtual guitar pedalboard/amp rig. i used to run at buffer size 256 to avoid glitches. now it runs easily at 128, which makes latency imperceptible for me. very cool! kindest regards for all your brilliant work on v2. /dan

  • Good stuff guys!

I wouldn’t call it a full “tutorial”, but I made a “quick how-to” on using ZOA in Drambo.

I’m hoping maybe it will help some get going with ZOA in Drambo specifically.

Please don’t expect to see many of these from me, as I barely have time to make music as it is, but someone asked in the comments of my last video, so I felt somewhat obligated to create a “how-to” explanation of how to get ZOA set up.

Let me know what you guys think!

  • dRambo Lee7? yeah, I like that vibe. 😏

    @auxmux @echoopera

    Thank you.

What does the ‘One Of Many’ Step Component do and what’s the use case?

It picks one of many notes on a step.
Let's say you have C-E-G-F on a step put One of Many on it. D will pick one of those notes at random...

Please… how do you send ‘Program Change’ MIDI Messages (in Drambo) to change patterns in GrooveRider 16?
Seems this is the ultimate Drum Maschine for Drambo..

    Thanks..

    _
    • AUv3 version currently does not support neither Song Mode nor Chain Mode. However, you can use Program Change midi messages in your host app or DAW to switch patterns of GR-16_

You can use the PC Generator module.
Either keep the signal input disconnected, adjust the PC number manually and hit "Send" or connect a voltage between 0..127 to it to send the respective Program Change numbers as soon as the next number is reached.

Thanks, worked like a charm… so much you can do in GR 16… Amazing stuff.

    Thanks..

Ran into an issue, The PC selection switches only goes up to 127, and GR 16 can have up to 256 patterns (I have patterns on 191+).. Is there a way to trigger these patterns with the PC? There are workarounds, but..

    Thanks..

    Horses for courses.

Sometimes 4 minutes can be the dreariest four minutes of one's life and one wonders why?
and sometimes 45 minutes with an entertaining voice can do wonders.

    On another note...

I was thinking about that Iridium synth thingie.

Stripping away all of the bells and whistles...
Is it a three oscillator synth and users can select from a choice of five different oscillators?

PC can only have values from to 0-127 [sometimes represented as 1 - 128]. That is a MIDI constraint. Does GR-16 perhaps implement a bank change command to let you get to the other presets?

Is there a trick to making a Bluetooth MIDI controller work with Drambo on an iPad? On my iPhone 6S (it's ok to laugh), it works straight away when I select my Korg Nanokey Studio in Drambo's Bluetooth settings. On my iPad Pro 2021 (M1), Drambo shows the Korg connected in Bluetooth, but none of the instruments register any keys pressed. I have checked (I think) the per track MIDI settings: always on, only when active...it doesn't seem to matter. Again, I can make it work right away on my much older iPhone.

Added: I can map the Korg’s knobs. The problem is getting notes.

When Instruments and FX (including AU's, most importantly) are disabled, is it still running cpu? my iPad gets pretty hot when running Drambo, even when Tera isn't loaded. Makes me wonder how cpu intensive Neon is just running loops, or how much the Wavetable Oscillator runs cpu... any chance anyone knows offhand where this info may have already been discussed in detail?

  • Updated… Thanks..

Works fine here with my NanoKEY Studio on iPad and iPhone.
Is it the same track configuration on the iPad and the iPhone? Remember, if you're playing Drambo synths, you need a MIDI to CV module before the synth. You don't need the MIDI to CV if you're playing AUv3 synths.

AU's will still consume CPU even when disabled. They're not really disabled, but bypassed as far as I know.

The little bitty DSP meter to the left of the volume meter at the top-left can give a relative CPU usage, but it's not something you can totally rely on because of how iOS dynamically allocates and deallocates processing power to manage battery and heat. (More info here.)

But it might give you some indication of how much Neon could be taxing the CPU.
