So far no, I just have these brain fart moments from time to time when doing beta on Drambo...
...I lack the patience to do longer pieces but I am trying to get away from the 4-8 bar 'brain block' loops...
(And learning to actually play at the same time, so I grow but very slowly).
By now I consider myself to have the technical knowledge but I need to awaken the 'artist' which is easier said than done
👾 👾
I imagine your morning like "where am I gonna rock some chips today?"
Yeah, one synth that really surprised me in 'that' category is Animoog Z and its LFOs in particular with good control over start-time and cycle count together with the grid that can be used for wave-sequencing with some creative paths, totally bonkers
I’m looking to switch up (sample based) instrument racks on a track when jumping to a new pattern. Best technique I’ve found so far is to use clip locks and nest my instrument racks in a "Switch N-1" unit. New clip then has locks that change the switch to the appropriate instrument rack.
I could see this getting a messy in a larger live set context… anyone got any other ideas/approaches i might have missed?
Another idea is to use an AUV3 sampler (ie. chameleon) and a program change unit to switch instruments (untested as of now). I'd just prefer to stick with Drambo's native sampler if possible...
Love it @Samu 👍
Here's the Drambo project for it in case you want to explore it further (It uses FAX Maxima on the Master track).
Works with the AppStore version...

(It's 7 tracks in total, track 1 is 'chip percussion' with ring modulation, mess with the graphical envelope speed and tunings, some wave-table stuff for the pad, the Snare is noise modulated AN Kick, hihat is resonant high-pass white noise).
One of the reasons I've not shared too many presets/patches is that for now Drambo is a bit senile when it comes to remembering the grid/snap-state of the graphical modulators making patch tweaking a pita...(I usually use 12 as Y-Snap and modulation depth of 0.125 (ie. one octave)).
If it inspires you please go full stream ahead
Cheers!
nest the instrument racks & N-1 in an outer rack and use rack presets to swap entire sets of instruments at one go. (also, a layers switch module would be nice for this sort of thing.)
how do you automate the changing of rack presets?
Awesome! Thanks!
Do you guys know of any good Drambo tutorials that focus on intermediate to advanced modular tricks and capabilities? Something like Omri Cohen does for VCV Rack, but tailored to Drambo?
I understand the very fundamentals of modular in general and can slowly intuit my way around to implement (very) basic ideas. For instance, just today I was experimenting for the first time with Switch-N1, Knobs and a Random module directed at N1’s index to be able to have multiple P-locks on each step, randomly selected each run through. Was excited that it worked out the way I had hoped. Little wins like this whet my appetite to learn more advanced tricks.
Why don’t you pick a VCV tutorial and try to adapt it to Drambo?
Another good learning tool is downloading some modules or projects from Patchstorage and reverse engineer them
While this sounds like a reasonable idea on paper, I unfortunately doubt you can do much this way, behind the basics. Maybe it'll work for you!
The thing is that VCV comes with an abundant amount of modules, and you can easily create your own (I did it back it the day). The consequence is that you get modules very tailor made for specific tasks, with a button layout disposition that matches your need. For instance a lot of funky sequencers or oscillators and filters.
Drambo due to its close-source nature (which is easy to understand due to iOS restrictions anyway) on the other hand only provides basic modules. Sure you can make more complex ones based on that but:
Reverse engineering stuff is also difficult for me in Drambo as you need to rely on color-coding, whereas patch cables on VCV are easier to follow for me.
Not only color-coding. If you tap on a destination, its current source will flash, so you can identify the connection, without the clutter of patch cords covering the controls.
Oh thanks for the tip, much appreciated! 👍
not at a drambo instance right now, but what if everything is "hidden". Will it unhide it and show you the current source?
I should give VCV/Mirack another shot, but this time avoid diving into the deep end before I’m ready. My issue being overwhelmed with feature paralysis could be remedied by only installing a limited set of modules I already understand and then slowly add in new ones to learn, bit by bit.
MiRack doesn't have the ability to selectively install modules. It's all or nothin'. You could selectively mark some as favorites and then stick to just that category though.
Nice!!👌👍
Drambo is such a Monstah… Can’t wait on the next update.. In particular, Midi Import, Auv3 Midi recording… and they said something about Ableton Export?
Well with the current multitrack recording importing to ableton is just dragging and dropping the files pressing ctrl
Are you speaking about the M1 thing.. I’m on PC…
Edit.. Maybe it is time to look into a Mac..
Yes and yes. At least if you're working with Ableton 11. Drambo works well on the iPad already, no question, but the much larger UI on a larger Mac/Macbook display is a really nice thing to have, as is the much better file access than on iOS
Kind of a noob question here, but are there any key shortcuts that work on the Mac version?
Cool.. Santa Baby, I want an Apple M1, both desktop and that Air 5…
Thanks..
Im talking about export the tracks, share them to your pc and drag all files at once to ableton
When recording same track but in a different clip, how can I select and record the new clip ,but with the playback of the previous clip being on?
My problem with Drambo on the Mac is that I don’t have all my iOS Audio Units.
Drambo is currently on sale
@giku_beepstreet How long will this sale be running? Thanks
How do you records individual stems with Drambo actually? I only see an Export song option.
I guess you could have Drambo multi out in AUM and record stems that way, does that still work if you’re using Drambo as an AUV3 host?
Also separate question for anyone who knows - is there a way to “freeze” a track in Drambo like you can do in Cubasis, Zenbeats etc? It seems not, but would be convenient when some tracks are DSP heavy.
Thanks!
arm the tracks you want to record, press the record button on the top bar, press play
