Heh. I was just thinking the other day about the now overused goofy and dumbfounded thumbnail faces on everything. It was novel and amusing at first, but agree it just seems ubiquitous and obligatory now, getting very old and predictable fast.
Don’t worry, just like everything that’s been and gone, it’s a sign of the times, a phase, that will eventually wear out and be replaced by another fad...and so on...
On a tangent but related to the subject, I have also noticed an increasing amount of presentations, be it cooking, fitness, lifestyle hacks, jokes and pranks etc, all supposedly innocuous and normal stuff, being presented more like soft porn! That’s a real sign of the times, unfortunately. Narcisistic and desperately seeking to provoke personal validation rather than any appreciation of the actual content. Sad, laughable and rather insidious and worrying on a deeper level.
"Girl plays the bass" is one of the extreme examples of this. Young women, usually with pretty convincing skills, play stuff, but half the shots and most of the close-ups are of their legs or decolletage. As if their chops wasn't enough, which it mostly is. The silver lining is that one of the best, a young Polish bass player, just sits there in normal clothes and does wonderful things while ignoring the whole soft porn trend. Good on her.
Absolutely not. I love life. I have a beautiful family and amazing friends. Life is a gift, even the bad stuff. You can't define the human mind as easily as you might think. One trait does not always indicate another.
For example, an ex very close friend of mind is a wonderful person, very giving, generous, fun and helpful in the community. Also an absolutely destructive toxic germ of a human being to her immediate family.
Girls can play bass?
Yeah, the way many things are presented sucks. My daughter plays bass. Apparently talent is not enough for a woman.

Hey guys trying to do a mild devils advocate… If they are on Instagram or whatever and the goal is views/followers, can you blame the person for doing what they are comfortable with? There are plenty of sick bass players with small view counts. It’s business. Plenty of classical pianists and other players doing this as well.
I don't think I can blame them. Or would want to. So advocate away 🙂

What do you call clickbait about “how to master”?
That’s great to hear 😊
I think that this is just life.
Life is messy and we need to be flexible and understanding of where is all the pain coming from. Of course we need to set boundaries and push back etc but sometimes we can cause more damage by excluding.
IE, someone with low self esteem puts their videos on the favourite friendly forum because other platforms seem too toxic.
I’m sure many of those who ‘spam’ do so because their internal filters aren’t well tuned as opposed to having evil intentions.
On the whole this forum has policed itself along some gentle moderation for most part of a decade now and I see no reason to make any drastic changes.
There have been threads about it and not much has changed although I’m sure they serve their purpose.
I try to give people understanding for as long as I can before pushing back. But the older I get the less tolerant I am. I feel like the less time I have the less I want to waste it. But you are absolutely right. The hard part is to pick the point where to push back. Some people forgive their child's murderer. Some people never will. Who is right, who is wrong, where is the point that is fair. I tend to just go with the internal compass. Sometimes I am tolerant when I shouldn't be and other times the opposite. I try though.
Anyway, what you said is right. The forum has done fine the way it is. Gentle moderation probably makes for a more pleasant vibe.
