No need to feel bad. :) This was worth the cost mate! I'll be getting so much use out of LP on iPad AND iPhone!

I’ve been thinking about ways to communicate that, as I’d like to enable those that are really struggling for money to get LP too… I just haven’t quite figured out where to say that yet.

You're the best, Michael. I'm proud of collaborating and trying to help in a community, knowing that there is a person behind with ethics <3

  • Thanks!

    Exactly! Same sentiment here!

I jumped on LP originally for the retrospective looping but that didn’t pan out how I planned but I stayed for everything else that’s great about it.

It’s useful in a lot of ways doing iOS music even if you don’t do much looping.

That's really interesting to me. The retro looping is exactly what I've stayed for! Can you describe how it hasn't panned out?

The other big win for LP for me are the follow actions and the flexible control layouts you can build on screen. Makes live performances so easy compared to other AU hosts.

    Great thread!

Only issue I've found is the playback speed of samples at different sample rates when you do a mixdown from NS2, they're fine when you're playing using the main transport controls, but in the mixdown they come out slow.

That’s interesting! Would you mind getting in touch about that? I’d like to get some extra detail, possibly a sample project or repro steps if that’s achievable.

Can you tell me more about what you were hoping for? Might be something that belongs on the roadmap.

    Hey Michael!

Thank you for asking. It's been a little while since I have used LP but I will have to check to make sure.

So my Retrospective looping experience started with the Echoplex Digital Pro and then Flux:FX

With Flux:FX I could chain together 3-4 loopers in a row (effects chain) and do a thing where I would record a loop to the first one in the chain say 2 bars and then play over the top and catch that performance with a looper further down the chain. Then I could swap their positions in the chain to keep building if I wanted.

The reverse looper also if I am not mistaken is yet to be reproduced. The other thing Flux seemed to do was look for a transient so my loops always started perfectly even when working without any reference rhythm/midi clock.

IIRC Loopy Pro does Retrospective but it's not that flexible and requires one to be aware of where they are visually. Flux:FX doesn't care where you are, it just plays back the last x amount of bars/beats/ms that you've specified in the settings. Add to that a stutter looper that could change subdivisions with the X/Y pad, it was really something.

Here is a video that hopefully demonstrates what I used to do with it:

I wish I had better footage of some of my performances but I lost it all to some iCloud bug...

If I can find a way to get Flux:FX back with some kind of jailbreak I can better demonstrate what I did with it and what I'd like LP to do!

Still, it's a very cool app and I appreciate all the work you put into it. 👍

@espiegel123 @Stuntman_mike You know something? I think I'll buy Loopy Pro on Thursday after I get paid from my gig just to have a play with it. Kind of running low of money after I take bills and expenses into account. :)

Weren’t you thinking about getting an OP-field just a couple of days ago?. We’re terrible! 😂
I just bought a second hand Line6 FBv controller thingy to control Loopy with my foot that’s 5 times the price of Loopy! 🤦🏻

if you turn off quantization for retrospective looper it grabs the last x bars ending at the time you tapped.

it didn't work for me when it came out, but now with the latest updates i started using it as a control surface for experimental electronic music

I don’t know what that is, but it’s a work of art in itself.

Sure thing, I'll put together a minimal project example today. What's the right way to get it to you?

Email is probably easiest: [email protected]

  • Thanks @Michael - I'll get something over to you later.
