To create a new bank, press the grey bar below the (L)oad and (S)ave buttons to bring up the bank and import/eport options.

Now tap the namefield and enter a new bank name, then press (C)opy and a ‚press again to copy‘ message appears. Press (C)opy again and then the bar (which is yellow to indicate bank/import/export options) to go back to the normal (L)oad/(S)ave options.

Tapping on the bank-name brings up a bank selector popup, which should contain your newly copied bank. Since it’s a bank-copy, your bank will contain the same presets as the bank that has been selected when doing the copy. Tap on your bank, selects that bank for load/save actions.

    .

Before saving a preset, first input a new name into the name field and then press (s) to bring up the preset selector. In that selector, tap the slot you want to overwrite with the current setting. A ‚tap again to overwrite‘ message appears and then tap a second time on the destination slot.

    .

BTW: To abort a (L)oad or (S)ave action when the preset selector is already open just press the (L) or (S) button again.

    Thanks a lot! 🙏🏽
    Got it.
Shall I I place the other 112 questions to Thermo in here, or should I open another post? Or is there actually a PDF-manual?

Eh, it's my topic. Go ham with the questions. :) We got so many knowledgeable folks here in case you can't find something in the manual.

Is Samplewhiz 2 worth it?. I already have some samplers:

    • audiolayer: great for multiple samples, velocities, etc… but not too much tweaking or creative manipulation.
    • Drambo: can do it all. Sample, manipulate, transform, sequence, annihilate… but it always takes some effort to set up.
Samplewhiz looks like a fun tool to manipulate and get some interesting sounds. Probably closer to FRMS ? (Which I own as well).

Very basic granular synth compared to really any of the other big offerings. No parameters for grain density for example, which is a big part of sound design with granular. If you just need very basic granular synthesis AND want a good sampler, this is a good choice.... But don't expect long evolving granular sounds (though like all bleass synths there is a good amount of modulation available). Otherwise, ipulsaret is way more robust and cpu efficient for granular, and something like AAS is light and cheap for playing back one shots. Koala is also good for those one shots when using the keyboard mode.

Yay, i‘ve just found a link to the IOS manual for Thermo 😀 which describes the IOS version of preset and bank handling, im/export with the Files app and AUv3 parameter automation with AUM.

Of the SonicPlanets apps, which is the most interesting for not usual sounds?
Most fun and hopefully most useful?

I would say Fundamental 2 is the easiest. (Can't spell its name without "fun" afterall, lol.) I have the original Fundamental, and while it's simple to use, you can really get some fun evolving soundscapes out of that thing. Thermo is the most interesting but still rather tough for my simple mind to wrap itself around.

WAIT...what the f*** is StarWaves and how have I missed hearing about it?! 😳😱 QUICK, @AudioGus , the BEANO BEFORE I COMMIT TO BUYING THIS THING!!! 🤣

  • Starwaves is interesting and crazy, yeah it passed most people by and I still haven't read the manual fully, it's pretty deep and the interface is totally unintuitive so you very much need to read the manual. You also need a powerful ipad.

@gkillmaster having to-ed and fro-ed on this question I think if I could only have one it would be Fundamental 2. And yes, worth the upgrade for the ring mod, morph pad and new glide feature imo. Of the fx apps, probably passbot is most interesting to me.

Thank you so much for the response @Gavinski ! And @jwmmakerofmusic ! Most helpful.

I got the M1 Pro. Definitely powerful enough. Patience to read a manual however? Hmm, got a link to it mate, or is it an "in app manual"? 🙃

Absolutely mate. Glad we could help.

  • If I remember right it is probably linked to on his site somewhere, but the manuals, at least until recently, were often quite hard to find and the links in the app store, which are pretty useless anyway as they are not clickable, were often wrong (Apple's fault apparently 🤷‍♂️) > @jwmmakerofmusic said:

  • I decided to go with both Fundamental 2 and PassBot and so far I've written over all the default presets in Passbot not knowing what I was doing and am getting no sound from Fundamental 2. Yet another reason to not just jump in without reading the manual or watching @Gavinski run through!

Hmmm, I've never tried PassBot, but if Fundamental 2 is anything like Fundamental 1 (I can't afford Fundamental 2 at the moment lol), it has a "Trig" button on the upper right side just below overtone Knob 8. That should get you the sound.

Of course mate. :) Have fun mucking about with it. And about overwriting the default presets in PassBot, I wouldn't worry. SonicPlanet's apps are meant to be experimented with and aren't your stereotypical production tools where you wouldn't want to overwrite any default presets. Make your own and have a ball.

Now I wish I had the 15 quid to get PassBot, lol. Seems like it'd be perfect for Ambient and Experimental Lofi.

Read the few pages in the manual about how presets work - it’s an absolutely terrible system, I will not make any bones about that, it’s literally the worst preset system I’ve ever come across, but once you get it you understand how it works in all his apps. Or you can save to your local host, just save presets in AUM for example. I made some presets for Fundamental 2, link in pinned comment:

They all need you to turn trig on before they will play.

And yeah, it takes a while to get used to the Trig button thing. It is on by default on some presets but not others. I’d really recommend reading the manuals with SonicLAB stuff. At least read one manual thoroughly, then the others you will likely only need to skim through as a lot of things will be familiar. It will save you a lot of frustration, increase your pleasure in using the apps tenfold too.

Thank you so much for your time and advice and I totally agree. And I'm am going to do just what you say. I get too excited and just want to dive in immediately! It always turns out better to take the time to really know how it works and yes, you get way more out of the that way for sure!
