Best AUV3 Effects
What are the best AUV3 effects for adding a distinct flavor to my Melodies? I’m creating a loop pack made exclusively on IPad, and want to add some great effects. Thank you all!
Comments
Depends on the loops and what you're trying to achieve.
Like, what kinds of effects are you specifically looking for?
FAC hands down! Chorus is great for thickening sounds, Bandit is great for multi-band stuff and ring modulation, and Phazer is great for those phasing sounds you hear in trance and EDM music. I am also a huge fan of the BLEASS and ToneBoosters effects.
@jwmmakerofmusic Nothing specific just something that adds spice to my melodies.
Depends, I'm a huge fan of the BLEASS apps...
...also I'm a sucker for the Eventide 'sound' and add all the ToneBoosters, FabFilter and FAC stuff to the mix.
IK's MixBox is really growing on me as well
As for something super cheesy, a dotted-note delay will do wonders on any melody line...
Can’t go wrong with already mentioned.
Bram Bos apps are amazing. Low cost, light on resources, great design.
that is a little broad, there’s so many good ones, and different types, but maybe Saturn would be a good option, at least for some saturation, distortion, etc…
what are you going for? What type of sound, or genres
Like others mentioned in no specific order Toneboosters, Bleass, FabFilter, Eventide, FAC, Bram Bos, are all really great.
Kymatica effects are really nice too.
Okay, so a broad-spectrum of effects. You better have deep pockets, because I'm about to list a shitload of effects lol. First, my background. I used to produce EDM for myself, but now I produce Ambient. EDM would be for collaborative projects only at this current stage in my life. However, many of these following effects can translate to both genres.
SO, let's start with Bleass Granulizer. Well, any Bleass app really. Their phaser is tasty. I also like FAC Chorus for thickening sounds.
Klevgrand's DAW Cassette is a great no-fuss magnetic tape emulation. ChowTape is the best tape emulation, but if you're unfamiliar with how magnetic tape works and/or don't have a doctorate in sound science, it may confuse you at first. 😂 So DAW Cassette is your best bet for quick results. DAW LP too if you want to make something sound like vinyl instead.
Velvet Machine is an audio-smearing type of effect. It can sound sort of like a reverb, or a reverse reverb, or anything you desire. Play with it. Speaking of reverbs, FAC Alteza is mindblowing as it can do things that other reverbs can't. And it comes with plenty of handy presets to work from. I also love Stratosphere Reverb. A good all-rounder reverb is Bleass' Reverb. However, if you're looking for the cream-of-the-crop, Baby Audio's Reverb is choice.
Woott is like OTT on your iPad. It can really make your sounds more "in your face". Speaking of unique compressors, Klevgrand Korvpressor 2 is another amazing tool. You also can't go wrong with TB Barricade for a top-notch brickwall limiter, although these days I never really use it since, as said above, I produce Ambient rather than anything beat-based, lol. And of course BarkFilter for its TripleBand preset or any other sound design you wish to do. And if you're looking for a nice mastering compressor, MagicDeathEyeStereo is simply amazing. @Gavinski uses that one all the time. (In fact, he may have a few other suggestions for effects.)
For distortions, you got FAC Bandit, FabFilter Saturn (although this one is fucking expensive, but worth every last penny), Klevgrand Reamp, Bleass Saturator, and K-Devices' Shaper 2. Each is wonderful in its own unique way. In fact, pretty much all FAC effects are worth purchasing. FabFilter's and ToneBooster's effects too, although these again are in the "expensive" category.
And this isn't exactly an effect, but Koala Sampler is amazing. It has the ability to take a full audio track and split off stems using the Spleeter algorithm. You can use the iPad's screen recording to record a video, import the video into Koala, and render the audio out. And as its name suggests, it's also a flexible sampler, lol. Easy to use on the surface, but it can go deep. Its effects section is really nice too to quickly dial in some effects. Koala FX is an AUv3 effect based on said FX section from Koala Sampler.
And if you really want something out of left field, go get Gauss. It emulates tape looping flawlessly. BramBos and Hainbach really made a killer app that I love experimenting with.
Oof, that's just off the top of my head mate. I'm sure I've missed a few in my ever-expanding sonic toolbox.
If I could start over, Bram Bos would be my first purchases. They’re very good bang for buck.

I suggest Turnado or Effectrix. Why? because they include a HUGE number of unique FX and excellent ways to experiment with them and vary them in your tracks. They also have a ton of nice and spicy presets. You can save yourself a huge amount of time and expense by going for one of these two.
Then when you know more what you're after, you can collect best-in-class specific apps ... if you ever need to, which you may not since both of those are damn good.
Edit: Definitely reach out to me @Gusto privately and I can help assist you.

@jwmmakerofmusic - you're right. I'm sleep deprived and having a real rough couple of weeks. Maybe too late to dial it back now now if it has already been read. Thanks for calling me out on it though.
So ... apologies to @gusto if you saw the snarky parts of my post earlier. Best of luck with your search.
I'm sorry to hear that mate. If you ever need a person to talk to privately to just unload, I'm a message away.
Let's edit our replies together mate. I'll go first. Best to take away any toxicity.
❤️
Thank you all for your detailed responses! Sorry if I was too vague, just looking for great effects to try out till I find my sound.
I sent you a private message in case you wish me to help guide you. Took me a while to find my sound. It'll be a long journey but one well worth taking.
Well... I didn‘t find the now deleted part toxic at all, but rather spot on...
And not discouraging either because it may trigger thoughts about the purpose of FX.
The question was „spice up a melody“ ... and not „wash it out“, so that puts Turnado almost out of the equation.
It‘s rather for background „melting tasks“ than work in the acoustic focus.
@Gusto think about the parts of your loops as roles in a play. Have a central (or main element) and an atmosphere around it.
Don‘t simply randomize things as it will take away attention - a tough task, tbh. That applies to beginners and experienced users equally. The latter only have more routine.
The most significant effect on a melody is delay. Longer delays emphasize rhythm aspects, very short delays may modify the „voice“ of the sound dramatically, in particular if the timing is modulated randomly.
Reverb is basically a special form of a lot of delays, for the melody pay attention to very short decay times.
The „verby“ part doesn‘t even have to be very obvious - but it will be, once you switch it off.
Amazing Noise‘s FDN Reverb is quite good in this domain.
Consider if a sound (really) needs drive/distortion. Some do, some do not... it depends.
(may be a bit overwhelming at first glance)
Use your ears.
That‘s the most important aspect. Choose your effect carefully, tune it.
Fab Filter Saturn is top notch in distortion and can do all kinds that exist... and probably a couple of non existent, too
Enjoy, it doesn‘t come over night anyway.
There’s no shortage of great effects on iOS! I’ll just mention a favourite: MixBox, specifically the Black76 and White2A compressors which form a “betterizer” for vocals.
And also for free… Baby Audio Magic Switch which I think is on par with FAC Chorus for a Roland Juno-style chorus.
My opinion:
I think, using effects that alter the "dry" sound of the loops, is wrong.
A music producer want to add the effects themselves (in a send channel, to make the overall sound cohesive), unless they want instant gratification.
Don't think for the producer, think about usability.
ElasticFX, Kuvert, Flux Pro, Classic FX, Bark Filter, waverails, Passbot/Voltbot, Scatterbrain, Replicant 2, Atomizer, Flux Liquid Audio, Bleass Granulizer, Shaper2, Drambo’s FDN, Moebius Lab, Soundsaw, Grind, ChowTapeModel, Apefilter, Apedelay, dubfilter, dedalus, bitwiz synth in an audio Fx slot
Fwiw, KoalaFX and resampling within koala can get you pretty far
Also, recording into Yellofier and resampling can get you sliced effects
Egoist has the effectrix engine inside of it, so for slicing and time based Fx, look no further
Yonac's Tonestack Pro (Fully expanded) has a wealth of options for sound-shaping, destruction and other effects. Workflow is a little clunky, perhaps, but worth persevering with.
A +1 for the WOOT recommendation and a nod to Bleass Slow Machine.
Also, really enjoying the BBD and Valley Audio's 'Plateau', within MiRack.
Edited, to add: PaullStretch
Don’t forget to take a look at all the free stuff from Caelum Audio, Blamsoft, Nembrini, Audiomodern, the Spectrum Synthesizer Bundle, the great apps from Jatin Chowdhury like ChowMatrix, Magic Dice / Magic Switch and Imaginando’s DLYM.
Free stuff: definitely all chow dsp stuff, as well as sonosaurus paulxstretch
Bleass FX are excellent. Motion FX is one of my faves
Anything by Bram Bos and FAC
Caelum Audio Flux Pro
Yukawa for weird delays
Klevgrand Modley also a very powerful one-stop shop for delays that has less learning curve than fabfilter stuff and combines lots od other FX with the delays
Erik Sigth Rymdigare for something very unique
Looperator to really mess things up in a good way - can also be used subtly and with lazer focus, though many people overlook that.
Mixbox as a one-stop shop that will enable you to do a ton of different FX types.
Fab Filter Saturn, Timeless and Volcano
Igor Vasiliev Spacefields / SoundSaw if you like weird stuff
…have just gone on sale, today (That includes the bundle of all 3).
Think I might have to treat myself to Timeless 3
MoDelayrium, 10 AUv3 effects for $5 !
Thanks for the heads up mate! I've been looking to complete this bundle.
No hay de que. ¡Que disfrutes!
¡Gracias!
