Any thoughts on headphone correction, mainly TB Morphit?

  • Though they haven’t reviewed much lately I’ve found Sonarworks ratings of headphones to be useful:

@sigma79 try the Oratory eq settings for your Superlux, maybe it works out better https://www.reddit.com/r/oratory1990/wiki/index/list_of_presets/

It’s not easy to buy a headphone which has a neutral ’out of the box’ frequency response. About 6 months ago I bought the Beyerdynamic DT770 which is considered to be a studio headphone, but without eq is has a seriously colored sound, big bass, mid scoop, elevated highs. My newest purchase is the open back Roland RH-A30 and sounds so much better, way more balanced. I don’t know what your budget is, but try to find a headphone with a reasonable neutral profile that needs little correction if needed. ATH-M40x is more or less a neutral headphone too, not super expensive and considered to be more a studio headphone than its popular bigger brother the ATH-M50x (which has the same issues as the DT770). Off course none of these options are cheap as the Superlux is. Unfortunately as all things in life you get what you pay for.

    Good to know, thanks.
I agree that the DT770 80 Ohms version is quite bassy but I preferred to use it with the iPad and do EQ corrections because it's one of the most comfortable closed headphones I've used so far.

The Rolands are not closed, as it seems?

No, the Rolands are open, but some mention semi open. Comparing with the DT770 (I have the 250 Ohms) you immediately hear how mid scooped the Beyer sounds. The Roland is very comfortable, but nothing beats a Beyerdynamic. Build quality of both is stellar. The Rolands have aluminum earcups.

  • Bought the headphones slush.

Probably not as comfy as the superlux and couldnt tell the difference in sound but the rolands are slightly more flat, would equate to loads in a mix?

Noticed on a jazz drum loop.

Is it like this with other headphones. Super similar until you notice the slight difference or do some headphones sound way different

A good purchase because its similar but corrects what needs correcting.

Doubt id use eq until I hear a mix.

Dont mind other cables touching but not headphones. So theres a headphone cable conduit, channel away from cables

and just added another short cable to unplug from audio4c, without having to unplug from audio4c outputs.

The cable is facing down ( for less dust collection )

and the bag is fine enough to lay over headphones, instead of bagging.

Interesting setup! Don forget to feed the bird on the Audio4c :D
Below you see the frequency response of both the Superlux and the Roland, and Roland is a bit more flat. I don’t use an EQ with the Roland at the moment, I really like the way it is as it is already very neutral. And there is no EQ profile for it on Oratory/Morphit anyway. With the DT770 I really need to EQ. As for a closed back, I should have gone for the DT250 250 Ohms instead as its more neutral than the 770. The thing is, if you ask around for a studio headphone it’s usually the same mantra you here: DT770 or ATH-M50x and both are seriously colored for any studio work. But do you like the Rolands, happy? I bet they have a better construction quality than the Superlux :)

    Happy.

    Chears.

    Construction is better than superlux.

I had to strengthen with tape so the cables wouldnt bend at the connections.

The rolands have a coil for cable attachment support.

Will keep the rolands at desk anyway.

Just use the superlux for other stuff.

I got superlux closed back ( an F model )

Might be ok enough for when needing to isolate.
