[Solved?] Are there any iPad models that don't suffer from unresponsive screens when plugged in?

I used to get that with a amazon brand lightning cable. It a grounding issue. Touch the metal part of the camera at the back of the iPad and the problem will disappear for a short time.

Metal part of the camera? Wydm? Sounds like voodoo to me.

My iPad as a metal ring around the glass of the camera. Or touching the aluminium of the body. Assuming you have a case that cover most of the aluminium.

  • Seems like taking the iPad out of its case reduced or eliminated the occurrences of freezing.

I’ve had that happen before when using a charger that isn’t grounded. Switching to a different power supply fixed the problem for me.

Huh I should have thought about that.

Awesome glad you got it sorted.

My Air 3 just has the Apple Smart Cover, only the part that clips by magnets and covers the display.
That does not help with the charging issue.

My case has a magnet cover that folds behind the device when I place it. Maybe my issue had to do with the magnet. So strange.

My iPad Air 3 works great as a standalone music-making device. However, when plugged in by a charger or lightning camera kit, the touch screen becomes unresponsive every few minutes. It may not be a huge hindrance, but if there is no fix, which model should I replace it with? I have been having it for over a year, and I find the headphone jack to be very convenient.

Edit: Using the official USB charging outlet and plug kind of reduced the frequency of the freeze but did not actually solve it. However, in addition to using the official outlet for the USB powered hub, I found that the freezing no longer happened (at least not frequently) after taking the iPad out of its case.

Just curious. I've had the same problem as you in the past. I had a screen protector on the screen. Do you have a screen protector? I read somewhere in a post on another site that sometimes screen protectors give problems over time like unresponsive touch or lag in touch or other irregular activity on the iPad when charging. Once I removed my screen protector all my problems were solved. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with static discharge or anything. It's a shame because I really like the screen protector I was using. It gave my iPad a smooth paper like feel to the screen.

Yes, I should've mentioned that I have a tempered glass screen protector. It's annoying to take it off and on again. At least taking the case off solved it
