I do miss Ableton Link in the setup as above. (To integrate blocswave for instance). But maybe there’s a workaround for that

I wonder if clock and SPP would still work if you enabled Link in X2 but not in Loopy Pro (or Audiobus if hosted there as an AU).

Xequence definitely would still send MIDI sync (including SPP) to any instruments where it's enabled, even with Ableton Link in use.

I’m experimenting with these situations and I’m experiencing something I can’t wrap my head around.. (it must be a setting somewhere or user error): at the moment when I’m changing song position in Xequence by tapping in the timeline (as I did in the video a couple of posts above) the pointer acts strange to me: it snaps to the beginning or nearest bar and a count-in follows. I can no longer control song position ‘realtime’ or ‘in a flow’ as I get these ‘repositionings’ (not going exactly where I tap) and discontinuities (unwanted count-ins). I tried changing the settings, but I guess I don’t know what I should look for.

edit: setting snap song position to arranger grid and then setting the editing grid to off seems to help with the positioning where I want it to be, but still gets me unwanted count ins.

That sounds like Link dicking around with things. Link has the concept of "quantum" where it signals the start of a bar. Probably Link and song position pointer don't play nice together as they have different priorities. That might be something that Xequence could prioritize one over the other. I don't know enough about Link to say if that's doable or not.

Thank you. It was Link dicking around. Just found out while your post came in. Thank you!

  • If you do need to have Link for some reason (for instance for syncing apps that don't have midi clock), you could probably disable it in X2, and use something else such as Audiobus or MIDI LinkSync to do the bridging. Audiobus does an outstanding job of bridging midi clock to Link.

:) I just bought MIDI Link Sync and then came back to read your post, but forgot about Audiobus in that role.
I’m using it to sync with Blocswave and it’s working fine. Maybe small artifacts, but I like them…
