So, that's normal. What do you see when releasing a note? It will say "Note Off", but is the first hex value $80 (normal note off) or $90 (note on with velocity zero)?
@uncledave: It says Note On, $90, when pressing a note down, and still $90 when releasing the note but at velocity zero.
Right. As I suggested up-thread, the app may be failing to recognize those note on, velocity zeros as note offs, which they are. So, the app never sees a note off, and it seems as if sustain is permanently engaged. You should contact the dev, after maybe checking the app's MIDI settings to be sure it's not an option or something.
Thanks @uncledave for you help! Nothing in the app settings to help. I will contact the dev..
I appreciate your help!
Also in the meantime, you can load a script in StreamByter which converts note-on with velocity=0 into note-off.
I think there exists one ready to use like that on Audeonic scripts boutique.
Sticking with NSK, but this app looks nice
Very clear, thank you.
Thanks for that info. I will have to upgrade first. I’m on iOS 14.4 and StreamByter requires 14.5.
Wanting every possible piano app I went to get this one and alas… “not for you, iphone boy.”
What’s NSK?.
I have a problem with heavy apps/libraries on iOS. If you have a “regular” iPad, not the 1TB super duper, you just can’t afford these kind of apps.
This one seems to be able to load from an external drive, which is a must for the reason above. But external storage means xtra hassle and the iPad looses a bit of its portability appeal.
I guess NSK means Neo Soul Keys. But this one features only EP, no acoustics.
I was comparing the amount of sounds in the PC version vs iOS and the Grand C1 is the biggest omission. I wish they would have included the standard Grand C1 on iOS as well. I loved the demo sound on the website. Has a jazz club feel to it which I would use.
Yes, Neo Soul Keys and I will stick with Pure Synth Platinum for acoustics and other instruments for now. Already forked over money and space for those 😂
Besides there are some modeled pianos in route soon that will take up a lot less space.
I concur, external drives become a clunky solution.
I was ready to pull the trigger on this new app until I read that it had downloadable content. I would love to have modeled pianos. Hopefully modartt pianoteq is still coming…
Well, I have downloaded many of the sounds, all of the acoustic grand piano sounds. To be totally honest, for now I’d rather have my iPad space back than keep most of them installed. And since the MIDI isn’t working correctly for me I’m deleting the large piano sounds for now. May re-download them for another test if an update fixes my MIDI issue. I’ll keep the DX EP1 sound installed, it’s small compared to the others, and it sounds pretty good, and is something I could use with my smaller keyboard which does work with the app.
My current opinion of this app...
The app looks good, well designed. Has a good interface. Sounds are all included in the price (no IAP needed). Allows some cool sound tweaking. Has built in effects. To my ears (and for my purposes) this apps grand pianos don’t sound better than some other iOS piano apps already available, like ravenscroft or pure piano, but your ears may hear otherwise. I thought Model D sounded the most natural. (Remember though... i was hearing them always sustained...) The sound files are on the large size. I’d recommend before buying this app that If your keyboard is on the old side check it’s MIDI implementation first to see if this app will work well with it. My older KORG SP250 currently doesn’t because I believe it does not transmit “Note off”.
Just purchased and downloaded the app. Installed the Steinway D (Concert). I'm impressed. Check it out
When I go on the site all I see for iOS is the “Piano edition”. Is there anything else available ? I have 8mg RAM on my M1 256 gig iPad.
Looks like various pianos and electric pianos in the screenshots. You can download and offload a la carte, no IAP necessary which is great ☺️
Good news. The app has been updated, and the update fixed the MIDI problem I was having. Now I can play the sounds normally, there is no constant sustain.
Thanks, @Stuntman_mike
