@Lady_App_titude you may try d‘Addario ECGs on that guitar once the XLs are through.
These are (initially) fairly brilliant flat wound strings, expensive but their durability is 2nd to none.
(I usually exchange them after 1-3 years)
Was wondering the same lol 😂
That said, well played Seonn, on every level 😉
Hah, I didn't "dot" my post soon enough 😂
Yep I caught it but others will be bewildered 😂 by the time my post was uploaded it was already at the dot phase
I think dotting is a sign of insecurity. I need to see a psychologist! (not as bad as people deleting their messages on Telegram though)...
Anyway, true to the original purpose and title of the thread:
I've been going for walks, working on my Mandelbrot Set Explorer app, watered my ex's plants, fixed a bug in Xequence, chilled a lot, went to a Café, and loads of other such exciting stuff 😁 (I didn't meet any famous people and that's probably a good thing (for them)) 🤔
Well, I'll continue in that spirit of the original thread.
Only allowed out every other day now under this ridiculous Zero Covid policy of the Chinese government. Used to be able to walk freely around our compound at all times but today was told to go home while walking my dog. Lockdown keeps getting extended. Add 3 days. Add another 3 days. I genuinely fear we're going into a Shanghai style months long lockdown. That is scary because some people starved to death and others lost their minds.
Main ipad is broken - dropped it, screen is fucked - but can't get it fixed due to lockdown. Looked at gofundme thinking maybe I could get my youtube followers to crowd fund a new ipad - China is not on their list of supported countries 😂
So yeah, not having the best week. And this 48 hours has been worse than the previous 48.
But hey, I'm alive and kicking. Things could be worse
It may appear in the video... If I can ever finish, and end up doing a video for, the track.
Thanks for the tip. I think I may have those flat wounds on one of my other guitars.
Been playing music a lot more lately. I finally bought another designated iPad controller (Akai MPK), and it’s been a blast using it. I forgot how important a solid midi controller is haha.
Also got one of those fancy new Volt interfaces with the analog compressor, so I’m excited to hear how it sounds.
Thanks, yeah it is hot. All of us except my wife got the cold, too.
We had our AC serviced right before this wave hit. Maybe tomorrow we will get a reprieve. It has been a cruddy week weather-wise. It is sort of like an inverse winter. My wife thinks of it like that.
But, but... they're just doing it all to protect your health! You should be grateful to them! 😜
Understandable... I can't express what I truly think publicly both in my and your interest probably...
That sucks... I haven't managed to drop mine yet, but I did hammer my fist on it many times due to frustration about shitty apps and UIs 😆 all that caused was a very slight yellow tinge on the points of impact!
It was 117 degrees here on Tuesday so we spent the last three days at the coast in our kayaks. It's leopard shark season in the bay, we watched about a hundred of them swimming around our kayaks. The water is very shallow and clear, I got some decent videos.
I'm setting up a new Macbook Pro. I have a friend who has an M1 and is using Logic and Rosetta with mixed results so I decided to use only M1 native software. I'm surprised that some of the software promised to be M1 native has installers that are not M1 native. I would need to install Rosetta to use the installer to install software I chose because it would not require me to install Rosetta. ? Apple has made it clear Rosetta is a helpful bridge to give developers time but not an excuse for developers to postpone updating their software. I am paraphrasing, probably badly, but that's the gist.
Despite the heat I'm having a good week. I hope everyone here is well.
Thanks, man. Yeah, had to find a way to bring people in the thread because I’m genuinely curious how everyone is doing. Sometimes, clickbait is an effective tool, despite how it can be potentially abused. I’ll be careful to wield that tool wisely.
@SevenSystems Hey, you’re famous in our book. You’re the developer who said, “Hey, I think I can make a better sequencer than what’s currently available…’, and actually did it. So, kudos to you, Seven. I bought Xequence 1 and 2 even though I didn’t need them for my music to show my support.
@Gavinski - Didn’t think it would be tough to get the tablet repaired over there. I’ve been reading the news about Apple switching to other countries like India and Vietnam to manufacture parts but I would’t have imagined there would have been this many challenges in repair.
Ideally, what would have been your next iPad? Henny ThaBizness seems to like the iPad Mini, I personally like the iPad 9 because of the headphone jack, a lot of people seem to like the iPad Air, and the iPad Pro 11 and 12in are currently the highest models because of the LIDAR technology (which, honestly, I haven’t really used).
@HotStrange that was actually my first MIDI controller on iOS. Really liked the drum pads, but I missed the Transpose feature, and wasn’t a fan of the joystick so I switched to my current one, which is the Novation Launchkey mini mk3.
@Gribs - Yeah, I hear you on the weather. Gone through rainy days, cold days, sunny days, cloudy days…and it’s only Friday. Most of that happened between Monday and Thursday.
Those volt interfaces look awesome. Having the box handle a lot of the complex work means less resources to use on the iPad. I do wonder if they put iOS devices in mind. Most companies forget iOS exists. Let me know how it goes.
@abf - I get what you mean. For the native apps, M1 is fantastic. For the Rosetta apps, yeah it works but it’s a bit confusing. Only part i’m saddened is that most of my iOS apps won’t work natively on the M1. I think Apple were too optimistic that all developers would immediately adapt to their M1 goals when thy made the option to opt in/out. Here’s hoping apps get moved to M1, but we gotta wait on developer time. Rather a stable product that takes a year to come out, than a rush project that ends up crashing every few minutes.
It's only tough at the moment because of the lockdown. All non-essential services closed, which includes phone repair etc. I basically hope I can fix it rather than replace it. If I did buy another ipad it would probably be a larger iPad Pro, 1 TB as I'm already always running out of space. I'd try to get one 2nd hand though which is still under warranty, a new ipad is really an expense I could do without at the moment.
Yikes, that’s brutal @Gavinski . I heard about the lockdown briefly on the news but didn’t think it’d be this drastic. Over here, we could still mail our devices in for repairs.
Yeah, I can see the reason for the 1TB. I used to think 64GB was plenty enough. Until I realized that videos and musical projects take a ton of space. Now, my Mac Mini at 256GB isn’t enough for me.
Rosetta is a brilliant piece of software (plus Apple‘s Metal graphic on the M1).
It lets me run Windoze software (Wine/Crossover) at almost the exact same performance of a similar clocked i5.
Even more impressive (hence the Metal hint): SAW Studio DAW runs without graphic glitches for the 1st time in Crossover.
(tbh I hate Win, but it‘s the only platform for a certain development system and SAW)
Since activity seems to matter: re-working my vintage German audio modules and learn to use an oscilloscope... properly.
I’ve heard good things about the Launchkey and had considered that one as well, but I love the Akai pads, note repeat feature, built in Arp, and just how compact it is. I’m kinda tight on space at the moment so it’s perfect for me. I’ll definitely upgrade in a year or so, but for now it works really well.
Thanks, I appreciate that
yeah, I did that way back in 2017 when I was still young and foolish 🤣
@HotStrange
The part people seem to keep missing here, which I mentioned earlier, is that my city is in the middle of a major lockdown with almost all businesses closed. I wasn't even allowed to walk around my community this evening. We also currently have no regular courier services running that would allow me to send a package. So yes, normally getting an ipad fixed is easy. Tons of 3rd party stores. At the moment, sadly no. Already 10 days in and it keeps getting extended. Equally frustrating and depressing, as the goal being sought - zero covid - is not remotely feasible at this point, given the easy transmissibility of omicron, the large number of unvaccinated people and many other factors. 🤷♂️
