Moog Model D Finally Comes to Desktop!
Hooray! Update your app.
UPDATE: Hmm. Wait a second… I’m seeing a $24.99 version on macOS desktop. Might be a separate purchase after all.
SECOND UPDATE: Nope. You get a free upgrade on desktop if you already own the iOS version. Thanks, Moog!
Also, just a reminder to get all of the free patches for your macOS Moog Model D which were generously provided by members here and from other sources:

Nice!
Well I know what I’m installing tomorrow then.
Excellent! Thanks!
Well that was short lived excitement, for a PC owner
Yes finally!! That one was highly anticipated! I hope it runs stable. Had some issues with Model 15 on my intel mac. But since it’s a free gift there’s nothing to complain about. Thanks Moog ❤️
Model D standalone has been on the Mac for a while now. Could it be that this update adds AUv3 support?
Great news, thanks for pointing it out and of course thanks to Moog for making it available.
I have Model D on iOS and I see it for $24.99 on Mac App Store. Do I need to go somewhere else to find the free upgrade to desktop version, or do I click through on the $24.99 button? Don't like the idea of clicking when it says $24.99.
Thank you, Moog!
Been hoping for this since Model 15 universal dropped.
Is there a VST wrapper for it?
As long as you already own the iOS version, it will recognize this after you click through. I did it myself.
Nothing says it is free until you click all along as if you pay but at the end the free good news comes. Thank you for the tip and thanks Moog for the gift!
Nice! And the new preset management is fantastic!
This is great news. Wow.
It's not a separate purchase, just another Appstore Glitch. You will not be charged for downloading it on the Mac...
Nice. Have got a M1 Mac so had access already but fab this will work on my Intel Mac.
Nice indeed, but at least for me it's a bit heavy on the CPU on my 3Ghz 6-Core i5 MacMini.
It really struggles when using multiple instances of Animoog and Model 15...
Is this a plugin at all? I can’t find it in any of my plugin hosts…
I think the Moog plug-ins don’t work in certain hosts. Do you have Logic? I know they work in that for me.
That’s why I was confused. I’ve been using it for a while.
Working as AUv3 in Ableton 11 beta.
No, just click "buy" it then shows you it's free upgrade cause you own previous version.. was exactly like that for me so it's really f ree
It's quite interesting that on an 2018 Intel MacMini (6-Core 3Ghz i5) Model D when loaded in Logic eats >90% GPU even when its window is not visible on the screen and hogs one CPU core at 100% even when it's not producing any output?!
Model D app In stand-alone mode both CPU & GPU are ~25%.
Guess there's still some room for optimization.
But I'm happy I can finally run Model D in Logic even though it becomes a crackle-fest after loading a 5th instance.
Maybe I'll just have to take a look at the M2 MacMini's if/when they drop...
...or if Apple releases Logic for iPad as the M1 iPadPro can run more instances of Model D than I have fingers to play with
Cheers!
Aw right, it must be an AUv3. I don’t have any AUv3 host - that’s why I don’t see it.
Be sure to let @GeertBevin and @MoogMusicInc know about the crackling issue.
I’ve been credibly informed that on desktop systems, it’s actually just an Audio Unit, not an AUv3. AUv3 is specific to iOS.
It happens with all plug-ins when reaching the CPU limits so it's not specific to Model D.
I am however a bit puzzled why the CPU/GPU usage is significantly higher when using the AUv3 in Logic Pro compared to the Stand-Alone app with same buffer size and sample-rate settings.
(There should be no need to update the UI in the background unless they use the GPU to render the sound).
I'm aware that the 2018 MacMini is no speed monster by any modern standards
As far as I know the Moog apps are heavily optimized for the arm architecture and being able to run them on intel is more like a 'bonus'.
Cheers!
For comparison, I'm getting 10-20% CPU and ~15% GPU (measured in Activity Monitor) per instance in Logic on an M1 Macbook Air, and 10-40% CPU and ~15% GPU for the standalone. Same buffer size and sample rate. Runs quite well on ARM, same ballpark CPU usage as other AU/AUv3 synths.
Guess it's a good time to remind people to get all of the desktop Model D patch collections to match your iOS app collections:

EDIT: Included these links in the original thread post.
Little bug when used as a plugin in Logic Pro: when mapping the knobs to a MIDI controller, the cutoff frequency knob does not move when the assigned control is moved, although the frequency actually changes. All the other knobs I mapped correctly move according to the assigned control.
EDIT: possible error on my side, although I assigned a control to the cutoff, the control actually changes the LFO rate. Strange
EDIT2: looks like CC74 does not control filter cutoff even if it is set to do it, but rather the LFO rate instead. Probably a bug?
@Samu thank you so much. 😍
