Thank you for posting this. Very happy. I'm very happy with having this installed on the M1 Mac. One day maybe Apple could change the order of their process so it wouldn't put you through a mild case of purchase stress when going through the store. It feels like you're in a casino or something. Anyway, regardless of this, life is good and the Moog folks are just lovely people.
Thanks, Moog!
Model 15 was a bit too buggy for me on my M1 using Logic. The Minimoog is running better, although CPU numbers are high but not unusable for me. The arp tends to keep running when I hit stop.
I like the sound of this synth quite a bit, I have the Legend but this emulation sounds better to me. Nice!
I already own the Arturia's desktop plugin...any considerable advantages to go for the Moog one? I think the arpeggiator is not present in the Arturia's...but that won't be a problem
And the Moog has a built in delay and live looper.
Sonicwise? I guess it's too subjective to analyze it> @NeuM said:
Couldn’t say. But with a Moog synth, you’re getting the real fat Moog sound.
Older Mac? Time to think about getting a new computer? I know, it’s a drastic step to take but the new M1 systems are really, really good.
Running Mojave. Stable with hardware drivers and 500+ plugins. Perfectly adequate for my needs. If i go beyond Mojave, I would lose hardware drivers (thousands of dollars to replace the hardware) and a couple of 32 bit apps for which I still don't have a viable alternative (e.g., Drumcore 2.5.1. I don't know of any other loop browser environment that supports REX loops; there's StylusRMX, but it is $400 and hasn't been updated in eons).
So, it's not the older Mac per se, it's just a major ordeal to update the overall system of Mac + MIDI and Audio interfaces + hundreds of software programs. Not about to go through that nightmare for access to 1 or 2 plugins. Out of 500+ plugins, I have only found a few that require anything higher than Mojave. (Although, NI just burned me with Komplete 14 this week, which now requires Catalina.)
. nvm . misread a post.
And the forward momentum won’t ever stop. When my old computer died it sort of solved my whole “legacy” problem for me.
Yes, upgrade only when you have to .... hoping to hold out at least another year. My iPad is getting close to that point, but iOS upgrades are so much simpler.
I just got an M1 Macbook to replace a 2013 Macbook Air that still works ok. I'll need to keep it for a few things that aren't silicon compatible. I had to sort through and deal with many old Logic projects (convert them to MIDI + audio) and get rid of most of my plugins. It feels good, it's a fresh start.
I'm also impressed by how much better new software can be, especially for photography. I've been using some ancient tech! Also, to compliment the BLEASS plugin suite I like, today I got three of the Sixth Sample apps and I recommend them, they're excellent.
Anyway, on topic, I think this Moog Model D app sounds very good. I like the Model 15 but I really wish they had made more of the UI visible on a big screen instead of the same layout with huge knobs. The thing I think about the Model D is just how many amazing sounds can be coaxed from such a simple synth.
500 hundred plugins!?!?!
Username checks out!
Perhaps run two Macs side by side, old and new, there are a few software and plugins that allow the flow of audio between machines.
Since you mentioned that, it is possible to run older versions of macOS.

Or just use the iPad version!
Absolutely. In essence a mini ‘Mac’
Really happy to install Model D and Model 15 for free on my Mac yesterday, and use them them as VSTs in a DAW after installing the “wrappers.” Sound great!
Also I installed Animoog Z — but no VST available yet.
Are the Moog ups not universal anymore? I recently did a clean install with Sonoma and tried to reinstall my Model D and Model 15 (iOS license). But I have to pay it now.
It's still universal. Are you sure you're logged in to the App Store, and with the same Apple ID? Have you installed any other universal apps from the App Store before this?
It may be that nothing has yet triggered the App Store to recognize your account. Or it may be that it'll go through what often happens with universal apps: the App Store makes you go through all the steps, including authorizing the purchase, and then finally tells you that you already own it and the download will be free.
$29.99 is a lot to risk though, so don't take what I've said as guaranteed.
It must be a mistake - when I look at Model D in Appstore on my iPad, I still see that this app is supported on all Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, iPad Touch)…
If you click purchase you probably will get an message that you already have purchased it and you can download it for free…
Good luck!
Can anyone confirm if the Model D app supports family sharing? On their respective App Store pages, both Model 15 and Animoog list family sharing as a feature, while Model D does not.
