  • @Yes, not all class compliant devices work. I have the RME Fireface UCX II which is listed in the link that @Stuntman_mike has in previous post it does work. I also have 828es is stable based on the work around posted in the same link. I don’t upgrade with every update release and so I am currently still at Akai OS 2.10.

Been working on a huge renovation project at home so I packed everything away but will unbox right now and hook up asap to give exact number for rme. Akai MPC os ver 2.10 supports up to 32 inputs and outputs per Akai’s website

    BRB

One should keep in mind that MPC does not work with all class compliant audio interfaces. Its actually very limited list with what it works well with. This is because it runs on linux and it does not have the same class compliancy that Windows and MacOs/ios has, the interface needs to be class compliant in some special way. Google should help to find what works. I know Focusrite 6i6 mk1 does not work properly and i would imagine other focusrite interfaces also dont. However i think all behringers do at least.

Thanks for posting the link I also have an 828es which produces glitches, dropouts etc when connected to the MPC One. I will try to use the work around as the 828es is also an excellent interface.

Are you sure that this list for normal Linux is same as for MPC? Because it says that 1st gen focusrite scarlett works fine, but 6i6 mk1 does not work fine on MPC. Only two front inputs(two on the back dont) work and only output that works is headphone out. Or maybe they just did not test all 1st gen scarletts.

  • Oh, thanks a lot for this, VERY useful! I didn't know SP-404mk II can do that as well! Hm, a food for thought. I missed out on a couple of MPC ONEs on eBay, but will now check 404 as well.

Thanks! I am checking the videos on YT now, but can’t seem to find the multilayer feature. Basically I want to control 3-4 samples with one pad. Would I need to resample a pattern in order to do that or it can import/record samples as layers straight away?

Very good explanation, Thanks! So, you’d reckon MPC ONE is the best bet considering all mentioned?

Yea the new MPCs have nice sequencer and a good sampler. Some older MPC like MPC500 would also do the trick, but you get better UI and lots of other stuff you might want to dwell into with newer MPCs. They also got ableton link, so you can sync decent ipad daws with the MPC easily. However you will need to connect them via audio interface and old school midi cables. The new standalone maschine and i think elektron products also work directly via USB for audio and midi, so you could hook ipad directly to them. But the maschine costs a lot more and elektron products are more limited in many ways than MPC.
I havent been looking at the markets so much lately, so there might be more products that would work via USB, do the trick and not be too expensive or limited.

It’s a good deal price wise, power to price ratio I would recommend it. My only suggestion is if you do buy it watch Akai’s tutorials to learn the basics of the workflow. Akai has been great at keeping it up to date and adding new features. Their app store is also growing. It won’t take long before you realize you truly made a great decision!

If you want to simply trigger 3-4 samples with one pad at the same time you can do it with sp-404 mkII too
    skip to 6:00

Mpc One does that as well ,also it can handle 4 layers where you choose to trigger depending velocity or cyclic or random
It also has a handy feature called "flatten pad" where the layers merge onto one new sample
