GSi (Guido Scognamiglio) TimeVerb-X guitar demo & giveaway (3 copies of any GSi iOS app)

Giveaway: 3 copies of any Guido Scognamiglio iOS app! (See pinned YT comment)

TimeVerb-X is a great sounding digital / spring reverb combo from GSi / Guido Scognamiglio (his name on the AppStore) / GenuineSoundware. Yes, I hate it too when devs have so many names but it is what it is 😂. Being able to hit the spring reverb to make it sound is a really cool addition that reflects what hardware spring reverbs can do. This demo uses guitar sounds from the excellent Riffler beta. Someone asked elsewhere here, does this bring anything new to the table? Feel free to share your views below. I find the feedback feature unique but maybe there are other apps that can do that? If so, please share.

See the pinned YouTube comment for giveaway details, and more info on the app.

  • @dendy i think you can hear from this demo that this does a lot of shit Pro-R cannot do. This is a million miles away from a standard reverb plugin, and all the better for it. Is there any other reverb plugin that sounds like this on iOS? I’ve never come across one. This is a wild beast!

Yeah, I've just started to dig in. This is a welcomed addition to my arsenal. Will get heavy use!!!

It’s fantastic! It really is. As I said, I’d love to hear from people if there is any reverb on iOS that can get these kind of sounds. I have a lot of reverbs. None can get these sounds

  • @Gavinski, is the “Hit Me” hot spot velocity sensitive? And can it be MIDI mapped?

It couldn't be velocity sensitive unless you have one of those old 3d iPhones. But I think this is ipad only, like all their apps to date. And no, there is no auv3 parameter for that in the AUM parameter list. It needs a physical bang like the old units did.

  • To my ears it Sounds a bit like Eventide Mangled verb and/or Spring verb.

  • First the time being, I am pretty satisfied with Eventide spring, which is fine because I have plenty of delays from this developer that I badly want. But their apps are so good that I will probably get this one at some point...

  • I don't hear anything in mangleverb that gets the kind of feedback that this does

Actually, GarageBand instruments simulate velocity sensitivity without 3D pressure sensing (it’s my theory it does this by measuring the contact size of fingerprints hitting the touch surface, although it’s also true that iPads and iPhones have accelerometers in them, which might be part of how playing surface velocity is determined).

Hmmm, didn't know that, I never use Garage Band. But yes, true that that could be possible, like Velocity Keyboard does. So far though I see no recognition from this dev (or any other desktop devs for that matter) that show they understand the power of touchscreen. I tried out a few desktop port iOS apps yesterday and none of them even scale ideally, in the way that, say, an FAC app does.

Yes, when it comes to keyboards and other touch targets, it seems many developers are not taking advantage of the API’s which are available to them from Apple, which could potentially turn these music apps into real musical instruments, with complex, nuanced techniques for a player to evoke unique sounds from them.

OK I understand now thanks to reading a youtube comment lol. I guess it must? Someone else will have to confirm.

Ah, is that you Said, nice one!

  • Took the plunge and wow. This is really really good. Maybe new fav on iOS. Time will tell. The parallel/series options really create some interesting textures. Was hesitant to jump on the GSi stuff cause the UIs are kinda blah, but an exception to the you can judge a book by its cover maxim.

If it gets the Oat seal of approval it must be good!

I sort of like what I'm hearing, but I wonder if it's really any better than what can be achieved with MixBox CS (remember there is a spring reverb there, but also the Sunset Sound collection, which includes the "Studio 1 Spring" reverb) or Yonac's ToneStack Pro, which has a load of good reverbs, effects and amps.

In contrast, I broke out my Eventide Spring app and it really sounds like trash in comparison to the two listed above.

    To each their own.

The mixbox springs are very decent. They lack any real drip or splash but the modulation on the reverb is spot on and will suffice for basic usage. The standard one still gets the most usage here.
I was very dissapointed in the eventide one too and curious about the built in spring reverb of ivcs.

Had a chance to listen to Gav's and Eyvly's demo's today on good headphones and i do seem to hear a little drip so i might just have to give it a try!

And yes, the iVCS spring reverb is also excellent.

How can you say anything negative about Eventide? I thought I was the only one… 😂👍🏼

It was only after finally doing a side by side comparison of all of my spring reverb apps that I finally realized how lacking was the Eventide offering. Completely lifeless.

Wonder how Eventide managed to drop the ball on that. Do others agree?

Anyway, if there's one thing I can say for sure about TimeVerb-X, it's very far from lifeless!

Hmmm.... I do like Blackhole a lot, but frankly it's their only iOS release that I use on even a semi-regular level. The tap delay is also great imo. I'm sure many of the others are too, and I think I have all of them, but for some reason I nearly always find myself reaching for something else.

They sound like Prada, am I right? (I always forget the original brand you used, but man has that quote stuck with me. Sometimes things are just so true and on the nose)
