hi folks! just put a new soundjoy 0.35 up on patchstorage:
https://patchstorage.com/soundjoy/
this release has:
minimal demo that leaves most settings at default values. the 0.33 demo uses all the bits, so many settings are particular to the demo, which is confusing. old demos still included as working examples.
fixes a bug in the clock rate calculations. it was a tiny bit slow.
removes a few redundant, confusing knobs. the retrig lev, a(ttack) rng and new d rng knobs are now in amp/p-ecf. new bits in the quickref p-ecf section about these.
a new fx section in the main ptrig 12/34 modules has several options for triggering only 1 track at a time. see quickref.
moon shot: normally when a p-rack triggers, a new bounded random value is set for some variable knob. now p-racks have a hidden, modulateable knob which can be used instead of the random value to alter the p-rack's setting. so any Drambo signal can now control p-racks. and, p-racks can now share the same source for variation. highly speculative feature. :^)
and here's the latest "what does soundjoy actually do?" blurb:
soundjoy begins with a steady stream of trigger pulses sychronized to the host beat. based on a probability, soundjoy randomly selects some of these triggers to fire and generate a sound. when a sound is triggered, a set of secondary probilities is used to randomly change the sound quality in various ways: pitch, timbre, attack, decay, volume, pan, delay time & feedback, etc. so soundjoy generates sounds at random beat sync'd times, & each sound can change in many ways, according to probabilities.
make sense? :^) enjoy! /dan
Another excuse to play with this amazing ting!! Thank you!
Ok, awesome! I’m trying to route a Bleass Granulizer where each channel of Soundjoy goes to its own output bus of Bleass Granulizer. It seems easy enough, but when I route the mains of the channel to bleass Granulizer, I start getting intense feedback.
Any insight?
@taeo said:
soundjoy only generates sound. it doesn't pass input audio to output at all. so i don't see how it could be causing feedback on it's own. also, soundjoy only generates 1 stereo ouput mix of the 4 channels. how are you trying to use 4 instances of Granualizer with soundjoy? can you post a screenshot of what you are doing?
hi folks! here's a new bit of bleeding edge soundjoy:
project file for the bold. :^) enjoy! /dan
This is like AI Jazz music! Wild!
hi folks! new soundjoy 0.4 release on patchstorage:
https://patchstorage.com/soundjoy/
did some stress test of the delay module & found a few significant problems. delays are properly sync'd to the beat now! also added a new ui for easily setting the min/max random delay limits in 1/4 beat intervals. soundjoy works much better now. new demo vid below. enjoy! /dan
Thanks Dan!
Wow
How could I miss on this for so long
Thanks so much for the work, Dan!
oh man
it's too much for my lil' old iPad Mini 2
It doesn't open. I will try to mess around and see whats going on
It takes a while to load. Maybe try waiting it out?
cool! thanks back for your interest.
hmmm. i'm guessing the 1 gig memory on a mini 2 is just not enough. i've run soundjoy on an iphone 7, but that's 2 gig. try the attached mini version of soundjoy. it simply omits 2 of the 5 tracks. and be sure to set Drambo's audio latency to 1024.
It crashed to the home screen
I even did the good ol' memory flush routine
Oooh nice. Thanks so much
Will give it a try right now while I'm waiting for some blender renders
And good one on the latency. Forgot to check that
@bangzero
Thanks so much for the mini version.
Worked like a charm Gonna explore this now
I absolutely love that you did this! Thank you (for everything)
hi folks! new soundjoy release on patchstorage:
https://patchstorage.com/soundjoy/
enjoy! /dan
soundjoy 0.42 - life, the universe, and everything (point release :^)
sequenced global modal transposition: a new track 0 has global controls to transpose the 4 tonal tracks, both chromatically and modally. it includes 2 simple slow sequencers to quickly vary the modal transposition over time. details in soundjoy-quickref.html.
deleted unused racks and modules. soundjoy is approaching the Drambo event horizon! it has become so complex that i've managed to make projects that won't load! the solution is to remove any bits not being used in the demo, except for the now prototypical track 1. in particular, the super-complex 'delta time' dtdelay racks have been removed from the droney tracks 3 & 4 where they are superfluous.
new graphic shapers for oscillator velocity and delay feedback, which can bias the range of random values. new 8va shaper uses a random sequence to vary proportion of random 8va's.
new percussion track 5: uses stripped down p-trig1 & p-pitch racks to randomly drive Klevgrand's Skaka & Borsta. by default soundjoy uses a flexi loop @48bpm created by this system, so Skaka/Borsta are not required. presets for Skaka/Borsta included if anyone needs to change the tempo of the demo.
n-scale: new sub-rack in p-osc to limits oscillator volume based on pitch.
p-formant: new standalone p-rack in tracks 3 & 4 which applies random formant shifts to the droney tracks.
when not playing, midi input on the generator tracks now generates pitched triggers by default. the thru option in p-trig1 can be turned off if this is not desired.
p-pitch, p-8va and n-reflect racks now operate on midi data, which are converted to analog pitch values just before p-osc.
new eq & compressor modules after p-amp to tailor the audio before fx.
fixed some big problems in p-8va. random 8va shifts are much more useful now.
added optional quantovox Spatializer au fx at end of each generator track. this adds a subtle space to soundjoy which makes longform, generative audio less fatiguing imo. it fails harmlessly if Spatializer is not present. and there's a button at the end of the main track which toggles all instances on/off for comparison.
doc updates. now with pictures! open soundjoy-quickref.html in a browser. screenshots and text for most of the new bits and some of the old too. still more docs to do tho. is this actually useful to anyone?
ps- & here's a soundjoy-mini:

oh my god!
Dear gods, man, this started off as incredible and has somehow only got better and better with every update! "You're a wizard, Bangy!"
