This is by far the best UsBC hub. The second best is the cheaper version of the same hub.

Agreed, detachable cables, like many hubs had prior to USB-C, should be an obvious feature. Didn’t Jakob actually go for this one after creating this video?

Edit: yep, and he is still happy with it:

Nice. Wow @jakoB_haQ you never updated your thread to let the folks here know you struck pay dirt.

It is a fantastic product. I have a few products from the same company and they’re all stellar.

Can it work with an SSD into the iPad also?

The ones I have work great. This one is much cheaper and also works great. 4 USB C ports however it isn’t powered. This isn’t an issue for me because I use Magic Keyboard as a stand which has pass through charging.

Great, thanks! I’ve been researching them lately as a way to use headphones (via usb c adapter), SSD, and a midi controller all at once.

Check out these Soundcore earbuds by Anker. They were made in partnership with Meta for that Quest VR device. I don’t even bother with wired headphones until heavy mixing phase.

Super low undetectable latency wireless audio via 2.4 ghz via a little usb c dongle that also has a pass thru port. Gamechangie af. If interested i recommend waiting a bit. They’re worth retail maybe even slightly more but often on sale. I’ve purchased two for around $55 each. Not hi-fi quality but good enough to get the job done until project requires serious mixing.

I have used this Thunderbolt hub since it was first available to buy, with both my iPad Pro 11" and a MacBook Pro, with no issues. The cost made me hesitate but it was worth it to have a long, replaceable cable and many ports. https://www.caldigit.com/thunderbolt-4-element-hub/

Been using this for a while and works like a charm.
Had the same indecision but because I use it for gigs, I wanted something with quality.

gotcha. I’m a can junkie myself. My collection of in and over ear cans has gotten ridiculous over the years but I absolutely despise and avoided wires and cables of all sorts as much as possible. For me, freedom (to move around), quick access and clutter free environments best inspire my mojo.

Totally understandable. I guess I’ve gotten used to it over the years since that’s all I’ve done. I generally reserve wireless for music and video listening and use wired for production. Those Soundcore buds are absolutely fantastic though. I recommend all of their stuff to anyone. We have a Bluetooth speaker of theirs as well and it’s maybe the best one I’ve had even though it’s cheaper than most other brands.

Agreed. Originally got the Soundcores because you can use them for phone (Bluetooth) and gaming (via the 2.4 gz dongle) at the same time. The app is cool when you have multiple dongles. I now have 3. One in my iPad, MacBook, PS5 so I can listen to 3 devices at a time with one click. Very underrated for the price.

I do wish there was hi fi options out there. I don’t get why this is so widely ignored at a time where wireless transmitters are everywhere. From guitar amps to microphones. Why so late on cans?

Soundcores buds come with the gaming mode option too which makes them even better for that. My wife has some over ear headphones from them (Bluetooth) that also sounds fantastic.

I’m not sure why hifi BT cans for production aren’t a big thing yet. You would think they would be. I hope something will come out eventually. I’d definitely buy day one.

There are high quality sounding BT cans but Bluetooth cant really transmit audio without latency yet so not good for production. I mean why aren’t there more using the same UHF radio transmitter/receivers as wireless guitar, wireless midi dongles use. Sony PS5 over ears and Soundcore are the only affordable options. I think aiaiai makes a pair but I don’t know much of that brand.

  • I’ve been trying to do some djaying with iPad App an a SSD through a powered hub
But the SSD always drops connection after a while and I can’t have audio suddenly dropping out when playing

So far been using caldigit soho usb c hub with a 100 PD charger, samsung T5 1TB SSD…connected to iPad Pro M1
    all top of line stuff

Yeah that’s what I was getting at too. I feel like there’s definitely a market for it since portable music devices are more popular than ever (and iOS of course) but not many brands are putting effort into making the latency low enough.

I’ve heard of the aiaiai brand as well but also haven’t looked into it. I’m not unhappy with my wired cans but sometimes the wire does get in the way lol

  • Anyone been able to to connect an SSD to iPad and use IDAM to Mac with a hub?

I’d like to use an SSD to iPad with the Djay app to play stems into Mac via IDAM. Use Recordbox to DJ, and sometimes Ableton to do live PA, but this would just be at home to go through split stems on Djay/iPad for flipping samples. I know with IDAM you should ideally go straight to the Mac, I've had it working ok through a hub before, never with SSD attached though.

Seems iPad connection is greyed out in IDAM when using a hub with SSD.. known limitation? Or just the hubs I’ve tried?

I'm really satisfied with this Digitus DA-70893 hub. I have it for 3-4 months and everything is working as described - audio, plugged MIDI keys (USB-A), audio interface (USB-C), HDMI, charging. It has a removable L bracket and longer plug so you can use it even with an iPad cover. It is for $20 in my country which is a ridiculously good price. I have found only one drawback: I have to unplug it at night because of the LED, it eats battery (15% in 8 hours approx).

I wasn't expecting it, but I have to revise my positive review of Digitus DA-70893. First piece failed after another 2 months and second piece arrived with strange audio clipping. Now I'm extensively using this Giissmo 6-in-1 hub and it is OK.

  • Recently bought this cheap multiport hub that has been working well

USB c host connection - long cable
    60w PD charging
    4 usb A ports 5gbps
    HDMI port

I run a usb to 3.5mm adapter for headphones, 2 more USBs for Korg midi controllers and then one port left for flash drive or other

Recommended this brand so far, LENTION
    About $25CAD off Amazon

I’ve gone back to using flash drives instead of SSDs and HDs though. More stable connection, no dropouts.

  • As part of my quest for the perfect USB c hub I have just picked up one of these

    https://minisopuru.com/en-gb/products/md818i?_pos=2&_sid=5c4e90812&_ss=r

But now I find myself totally confused by which SSD would work, does anyone have any recommendations for one that would fit?
