@PeteSasqwax na, he’s over in Tod’ - and pronunciation round here is deliberately obscure I think, keeps them offcumdens guessing 😅

Rude… there’s an offcumden watching! Moved to Hebden Bridge 2 months ago (albeit only 2 valleys north)

Oh nice, that's where I am (7 years now, still offcumden, forever I suspect - I'll get the T Shirt when they do it in black :D )

100 years of family history in the valley before you get to remove that badge? Or is it descent traceable back to Elmet? 😂

Probably, no way in for me I suspect, half polack, the rest lancastrian... we'll have to grab a brew sometime!

😂😂😂 Yeah, the upgrade is very useful for limiting the incoming audio about "missing the toilet" and "spending too much time on your 'music hobby'".

Where are folk finding Pigments for $50?!

In their Arturia account once they become loyal customers. 👍

Jokes aside, Arturia usually gets this part right. I keep spending money with them because they do give me, as a returning customer, increasingly better deals. Win-win.

I bought a M-track solo for my son, with Amplitube 5 SE, gives 12 amp models and other stuff.

For IOS, Hip Licks for guitar, an app version of the book, jazz guitar licks based on saxophone lines. And Trooper and Future Drummer.

I am still looking for a nice discount, my son (13 years old), started with Ableton lite 11, and I think I would like to get one nice VST synth bundle if it is really a good deal. I am used to IOS price level, desktop software is so expensive.

    I got Pigments for $69, how y’all got it for $50??? 😂

I’ve bought the two Noise Engineering VST bundles, great stuff 👍 Maybe will go for Algonaut’s Atlas 2 later this week. Nice deals I’ve seen but didn’t bought because I already got them:

    • Softube Model 84 (the Model 72 and Model 82 are great too)
    • Arturia V and FX Collection
    • Audiothing Hainbach Edition (I have everything but Dials, don’t need it and I found “upgrading” for the suggested price not interesting enough)

I was tempted by the Hainbach bundle, dragged my heels but I know eventually I’ll bite 😂

Yeah me too, only missing the gong thing and the new eq malarkey, maybe I’ll make some silly filters out of these ancient NOS paper caps I’ve been gifted as a stop gap 😬

Dunno, I got it a while back, and it was 49 then. Arturia sometimes has crazy offers. 🤷

I already had V Collection, FX, a couple of hardware controllers and have done the upgrade a few times (on both V and FX) so they knew I was a mark

Oh nice, I really love Arturia!
I own most of their stuff, with exception of their audio interfaces and their very expensive hardware synths. I’ve heard mix reactions about the big Brutes, anyway here own a MatrixBrute or PolyBrute? PolyBrute looks enticing, if I had a bunch of money to throw away 😆

I have some of their hardware too (no big synths), including microfreak, which I really tried to like but its sound has been a rather big disappointment for me. Their software I really like though.

That's really interesting to hear. I feel exactly the same and ended up selling mine because I just couldn't get with the sound at all. You're the only other person I know who has the same perspective on it.

I read quite a lot of people saying it sounded tinny - but only after I bought it, unfortunately 🙂

I do need to use it more.
I will make it a point to make something with it this weekend. I look forward to using it as a controller for Arturia Buchla Easel…

If you have something that showcases the sounds of microfreak and you like it and are willing to share, please do. I'm still hoping to learn that there's more to it than that pocket radio vibe! 🙂

Well, at least you have that excuse then. I thought I did my research before buying it. With hindsight, what I did was more like working hard to confirm my positive expectations...🥴

I know what you mean. I had been disappointed, too. In my opinion that has two reasons: lack of FX and the factory presets. Always use some FX with the freak, either your DAW/iPad or a multi FX pedal. I pair mine with a Korg NTS-1. The factory presets are really great in demoing the capabilities but are too crazy for my taste, too many SFX patches.

Explore the free preset packs on the Arturia website or best design your own. IMHO the freak is really great for sound design. Use the freak‘s great modulation capabilities to add motion that makes the patch more interesting. I‘ve seen fantastic patches where the mod matrix is almost completely lit.

I can also share a little trick that I‘ve learned from a preset pack that I‘ve bought. Do some very subtle modulation with the pressure on the pitch. This adds some analog like instability to your patch.

Yeah that’s what I love about the freak, I hardly explored the presets, I never really do tbh, but starting from one of the simple bases, then carving out what you’re imagining is so much fun with this wee beastie!

The MiniFreak is probably a good idea. It fixes some of the freak‘s shortcomings. It’s so much better to have on-board FX that you can store with your patch.
