Choric by Caelum Audio - Beta (2 AUv3s in v1.0.4)
Hi All,
As it turns out that that the Apple gods are allowing people to install Choric from TestFlight now, I felt that we should release the beta link for everyone!
Choric is a different type of chorus effect. With up to 32 voices and random modulation, it can create massive, lush, and natural-sounding unison. With fewer voices and more traditional modulation shapes such as sine waves, it can be used to re-create more typical chorus sounds.
Using a range of parameters, Choric can be tweaked to your liking. These include typical parameters such as Rate and Depth but extend beyond this: Phase can be used to spread the modulation phase across the voices, Looseness spreads the voices out in time, and Spread pans the voices across the stereo image. With other features such as filtering and pitch shifting, Choric can reinvigorate sounds.

Some early thoughts from The Beat Community: https://thebeatcommunity.com/2022/12/08/choric-coming-soon-from-caelum-audio-for-desktop-ios-users/
Any feedback would be much appreciated! Of particular early interest would be feedback surrounding the fps rate of the visualiser and how your device copes with it. Please tap the visualiser to change fps rate.

Edit... Perhaps I should add a picture!

Wow... Loved the interface. And the way the chorus works seems delightful... Awesome work there
Wow is right!
Extremely cool guys!
First thought about what would make it cooler - allow midi notes in to ‘play’ the pitch. Very creative take on things and lovely interface.
I preferred 60 FPS on my devices
iPhone 13 iOS 15.6
iPad Air 4 iOS 15.1
👍🏽
Holy cow. This is a massive improvement over most of the available chorus applications. Looking forward to this one.
Or how about the incoming signal volume affects how much chorus is applied? Could provide a range limiter (and one which could be inverted might also be interesting).
Thanks everyone for the positive comments and feedback so far!
Some interesting thoughts going around!
Interesting, I wondered if this would be the case on newer devices. My older iPad is just about happy at 30fps.
I can see that there have been a couple of crashes but there isn't any information about why that would be as there isn't any comment in the crash feedback. If anyone runs into a crash could they please let me know what they were doing? - I would guess that this would be a case of which host it's opened in but am unsure.
Thanks,
David
My older 10.5 pro runs good with 60 and 30 (keeping it on 60 till I see any funny business) but I haven’t pushed too many apps running with it yet.
This is in Drambo and aum. I had a crash in loopy but I’m on the beta for that, so it could’ve been loopy. Haven’t been able to reproduce it again. Need more testing with that host.
Btw, beautiful gui.
This is LOVELY!
I sent one of those crash reports, I was in a short work break, so couldn´t get the time to write it.
It just crashes on startup on my iphone 6s, working great on my iPad.
Those sound like very cool ideas too. Not or, and!
As an option you can turn on or off, obviously
Wow Choric is so much more than an Chorus, this thing texturizes and adds all sorts of weirdness and sparkle. I’ve already come up with 20 cool presets for drums, synths, and fx
I’ll have a go with that in a bit. I like the icon. The icon is cool.
Looks cool..can’t wait to dive in
Thanks for sending. Seems as though there is a theme of crashes on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Do you have the issue when it is loaded from a host or is it just standalone?
This makes me think I should come up with some export/import preset function! Would be great to hear them!
David
iPad Pro 2021. So far no issues in Apematrix after a hour tweaking.
-I would suggest an on/off button, like in FAC Chorus, so you can quickly check how the effect alters the original sound. I always find this very handy in apps rather and tweaking the dry/wet knob.
-I switched the visualizer to 60fps, but still there’s a very slight lag. It’s a large visualizer, maybe a smaller one would make things even more smoothly?
-14.67ms latency
The crash is only happening as standalone, loading fine as auv3, so it´s not that big deal I think
I've just fixed a similar issue on my iPhone 4s (I'm surprised it could run a new enough iOS version) so I'd be interested to see if it fixes the issue for you. It's just been made available on TestFlight.
Every app should really have batch import / export tunctions, definitely add this if you can please! Cheers guys
I just tried it and it´s loading perfect now as standalone 🙌🏼
‘Dark’ setting doesn’t seem to do anything, can’t tell the difference.
It is very subtle and depending on what you’re running through it may not actually make a difference at all. It’s a very slight eq curve which we liked during the development.
Fantastic, thank you so much for your feedback and help!
It’s something that I’ve been mulling over for a while to add to our preset system. Would a batch export that just dumped every preset to a folder (chosen by the user) and then an import of every preset within a folder (chosen by the user) suffice? It’s a bit weird on iOS with sandboxing. On desktop we have it working so that the presets just go to the users document folder.

I’ve started to implement a bypass function today. I’m also fixing a minor issue with latency when bypassed from the host.
Loving the positivity from everyone about Choric, thank you! Would be great to hear what some people are doing with it! 😀
I admit I've not downloaded the beta yet but what struck me was, how cool it would be with separate pitch for left / right channel and together with the width control I could turn myself into a 3 person choir
Choric is great! However, I question the visualizer. For what it accomplishes in the context of what Choric is, it seems somewhat overdone. IMHO 😎👍🏼
@CaelumAudio I like the way icegear synths now handle import. You click on a zip file, the relevant synth appears as a share destination, all the presets get imported into a relevantly named user subfolder
this app is kind of amazing. and i’m not even that big of fan of chorus effects. also love the graphics. it’s nice to visually see what is going on with the voices
Same. Almost never use chorus but this is something else!
