LOL! 🤣 Before I watch this video, I will say that while iOS may be the "Windows Killer" for me personally, in no way could NS2 be the "FL Studio Killer". For instance, FL Studio has a lot more going on under the hood, comes with a lot of great free plugins, has a lot of amazing native/VST plugins, and oh yeah, has audio clips.
Okay, I'll probably edit this comment after watching the video in 3...2...1...
EDIT: A really great video with some great tips and tricks. I like the solution to lack of ghost notes that you presented, and it was a really sick composition. 😎 I actually have a little e-gas for Sampletron after hearing that flute preset, lol.
EDIT 2: To explain my initial knee-jerk reaction, it's the clickbait title that made me react that way, lol. Like "what is this dude talking about?" The video itself is a great chill informative presentation without any fluff.
Interesting solution (have not watched the whole video yet)! Depending on the range required, you could also create a set of custom Slate instruments with the appropriate pitches defined for each pad. This could then be routed to an instrument track. Not the sort of thing you would want to do manually for a lot of scales but generating such things could be automated with a bit of scripting. You also would be limited to the notes in the scale, which means I like your idea better!
Ghost notes is one of the things I miss most from the NS2 piano-roll, after being spoiled by MTS![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
+1. NS2 is nowhere near FL Studio but that's not the point. I only find the thread title misleading.
Love all of his videos but I hope I don’t get sucked back into the NS2 vortex.. SO bummed out that it’s abandonware now .
@jwmmakerofmusic : Only thing about FL Studio proper is , that it’s SO NOT mobile .. My understanding is that there are lots of windows constantly popping up all over the place and it is best utilized with multiple screens and a larger desktop setup .
This is a ridiculous comparison. FL is years ahead of NS2 in so many ways.
Exactly. The title and video thumbnail are absolutely misleading clickbait. Annoying, especially when the video itself is top notch.
Is this confirmed to be? If so that would suck. 😳 But at least FLSM is in constant development by the folks at ImageLine and is a pretty great alt to NS2.
Lol! This is true. Lots of moveable windows. I used to work in FL Studio proper on a 14" laptop, which worked well enough. The GUI of FL proper has been vastly upgraded since I last used it to be easier on the eyes to boot.
FLSM is a great alt to NS2. The more I dig in, the more I come to realise how much I underrated this absolute gem of an app.
Exactly! FL proper is a great robust piece of software used by many big names in the HipHop and EDM communities. I loved using it, I just hated Windows. I may someday get a Macbook just to use FL again. Probably 2024 if I'm being realistic about timing.
That's the only reason I looked past the clickbait twaddle and gave the video a watch. @ipadbeatmaking never slacks on quality content which should speak for itself without the clickbait. My two pence.
That is a good video. Thanks.
IMHO FLSM is outdoing NS2 these days.![:# :#](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/grimace.png)
Maybe he just wants to use AUv3's without creating a 'AppFlipSwap FrankenDAW'![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
Agreed.
So true! It is. Can't believe I overlooked FLSM for so long. It's easy on the battery. It has a humanise function. It's got an odd GUI, sure, but it's great on an iPhone! Samples are easy to browse. Automation clips. All the built in fx one could possibly need. I could go on.
@tja
Sounds a little complicated but fun.
Is it?
Sounds interesting.
Good video, indeed. I would like to not hear background music, tho. Why do so many think this is so necessary.
Looks like his title worked, the way some of you folks react, lol
NS2 is the best. It's just too easy to create there. I can do it almost with my eyes closed. I love NS2![ ](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/blush.png)
Mostly me, lol. 😂 I always watch his videos regardless of the way the title and thumbnail are presented.
Great video and sure the title was just to draw people in. If I’m honest, I’d compare NS2 with Bitwig (the greatest desktop DAW)…. (Just joking, NS2 is clearly better than Logic on iPad… oh wait! Anyway…)
same here. When I got interested in making music on iPad, I tried the most obvious DAWs and all had something that didn't work for me or there was something missing. NS2 is just exactly perfect for me.
Yeah!! 💯!
This
NS2 cost $30 when released then the price was slashed quickly because stubborn iOS music producers sat on the fence due to the lack of audio tracks and waited for bargin basement sales. Had everyone jumped in and supported the app at full price (still a fraction of desktop software) then audio tracks would have been updated already.
Image-line was formed in 1994 and is a team of people working on desktop software that runs $100-$400. I think comparing that company’s software to one guy selling an app for $30 (now maybe $10? I don’t know) of which Apple takes 1/3, is a pretty unfair comparison.
Everyone has unique preferences so there is no one perfect DAW for all. I only tried FL Studio on iOS, but it didn’t click with me. I don’t diss it at all, and keep it and other DAW apps on my iPad for some experimentstion. They are all useful tools. For me NS2 works best. Some like FLSM or other other apps better - that’s cool. Why not use multiple apps for the strengths of each? We really have a great range of apps for super cheap on iOS. Just my 2 cents.
I’ve talked a lot of shit about FLM in the past but I may have finally seen the light. The interface isn’t THAT wonky, just takes some getting used to. And I keep coming back to the fact that, minus a few bits and bobs, it basically amounts to NS2 with audio tracks. And I’m not paying for a new daw. So I’m glad I’ve kept this on my iPad, had a feeling I’d come around.
I just got started using Studio One 5 Artist, and the workflow is a lot like Nanostudio 2.
So FL Studio doesn’t host AUs, correct? Can it drive AUs hosted in AUM?
How would this workflow look?
This has been discussed on Image Line’s forums. Supposedly they’re saying Auv3 sometime next year along with the ability to mix time signatures .
