I was laughing at the teaser but now I'm surprised to see a synth that does look very interesting.

I find it interesting that 3 of our most experienced developers (4Pockets, Bram, and Klevgrand) have all chosen synths as their latest releases.

All 3 are known for their innovative and sometimes "out there" apps but they have gone a tiny bit "safe" and released synths (albeit innovative & experimental synths).

    Indeed.
The only really "out there" synth for me is this Tomofon though. Everything else has been here already in a very similar fashion.
I've just created a few patches using different samples from natural instruments and I'm stunned. Out of all wavetable synths I've tried so far, none offered a fully automatic wavetable creation feature that sounded so clean and musical.

And I haven't even taken the time to read the manual 😅

@Simon of course man! Its Klevgrand boys and girls...

    Forum-wide research lab!

  • Trying the demo in Reason and it reminds me of Reasons 'Friktion' which is one very, very cool synth. I just tried for a couple of minutes but I will definitely buy the iOS version.

  • Sounds quite nice in a lo-fi way, reminds me a bit of wavemapper.

  • Looks like iZotope Iris.

Strong praise, I hold your opinion on synths in high regard. Wonder what happened to the usual policy of releasing both the ios and desktop versions at the same time

Surprising too, since it looks tailor made for iOS - particularly that grain screen bit.

    Thanks! 😊
Just a wild guess: Klevgr might be struggling a bit with supporting multiple iOS versions, this usually requires more time and more testing than on MacOS. I know the pitfalls from beta testing Drambo which still supports iOS 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16.
Some misbehaviours only show on iOS 13 and below, for example, and they can be quite surprising at times.

Yeah, and even AUv3 support has it's fair share of issues between the different iOS versions...
...iPadOS16.2 will drop later on today which will be a blast. I can finally use my external 4K monitor as intended :sunglasses:

    Cheers!

  • Klevgrand’s latest email promises an iOS version “early 2023”.

  • Really liking the demo, some great presets.

  • Wow, that looks very innovative! May be the first non drum app I will get from Klev.

  • I love the demo, really something different!

  • Ha ha, in the thread « what to hope for 2023 iOS music ? », I submitted the idea of crazy innovative synths like Soundpaint using wave morphing. But I was not expecting it to come so fast 😀🙏
Thanks Klevgrand ! It will be an instant buy from me.

My guess is that the iOS/iPadOS price-point will be somewhere between 12.99 and 19.99...
...could be more could be less but that's my guess.

Next year I'll likely be buying even less apps that I've bought this year...
...I need to focus more on what I've already got instead of getting new 'toys' all the time :sunglasses:

You and me both. I'm out of money.

    +1 too here!

  • I love everything about this, can’t wait to try it.

  • Been playing with the demo for a couple of hours and created a cool patch out of a moog sample. I'd jump on it for $49.95. My niggles: the interface doesn't scale and some of the text is difficult to read. The filter cutoff and rez are on a page with the filter envelope and not on the main page all the time. And I need more customizable CC mod sources and more assignable destinations as there is no MIDI learn. Other than those things... it's got a lot going for it. Competing synths with a similar approach that I own would be Waves CR8 Creative Sampler and Steinberg's Backbone. So I'll have to see if Tomofon ups the game or at least gives me more fun factor.

Tomofon really shouldn't crash when you load an MP3 it doesn't like. An error message would suffice.

  • Can the wavetables be exported for general use? I’ve hunted round the demo but can’t see anything than their propriety format? - I was wondering if this would be an interesting alternative wavetable extractor to serum…

Doesn't look like it. Dune is my go-to wavetable beast. I might pick up Tomofon when it's available on iOS, but I'm pretty happy with the results I get from Steinberg's Backbone when it comes to stretching a single sample across the keyboard and mangling it. I only need so many hammers. But I definitely recommend anyone interested to download the demo and play and see if it fills a need or a niche... or an itch.

  • Anyone seen any clues as to when this might drop on iOS? I'm not on the tweeter and other platforms like that...

  • Haven't been so excited about an iOS synth release in a long time, even possibly ever! This seems hundred percent up my street.

  • Yeah, looking forward to this one...

I've messed with it a few weeks ago and it seems like you can. It's not like a classic WT format though, it seems like they're using adaptive frame lengths for different pitches.
That's efficient but hardly compatible with any other WT synth out there.

    Tomofon is quite cool.
I really like the fully automatic WT creation feature, you won't necessarily get perfectly clean results but definitely new and usable sounds that you didn't have before.

Nope. When it’s here, it’ll be announced. I didn’t buy the desktop version because relative to other offerings I simply cannot justify a $100 synth purchase now. I got the Cherry Audio GX-80 (which is fantastic) for about $60 and that’s probably the most I’ll spend on a single synth for desktop for a year or more.

Interesting, I didn’t get that far with it, I’ll have another look, maybe get it in iOS when it come and see if it sticks enough to want it on desktop too, thanks RS 🙏

Do we have any guesses for the price? I think this might be top tier for Klevgrand. $29.99? More?

I have a feeling you're in the right ballpark on that guess.

  • From what I’ve read, it seems like it uses the same, but updated, idea for sound creation which was used for Pipa? Is that a fair assessment or have I misunderstood? Either way, it’s a really exciting prospect.
