Audulus 3 is still downloadable from your purchased items list.
You didn’t get ripped off and can still use Audulus 3 if you don’t want to purchase A4.
p.s. Best to first ask if something is true (I.e. whether it is still possible to download A3 before making accusations of theft).
First off, you haven't lost access to Audulus 3. It's still available in your purchased items for download, and always will be.
You can access that here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204088
Secondly, the reason we took it off the store is for a completely understandable reason - we don't want people to accidentally buy an old version of Audulus and be in a different, perhaps even more frustrating position of having bought the wrong version of Audulus.
We haven't "abandoned" Audulus 3 - we upgraded Audulus 3 to Audulus 4. That said, we're a tiny team with basically only one person, Taylor, the creator, working on the actual code of Audulus. Some companies are able to keep older versions of their software working for a long time because they have larger teams (Ableton, for example, keeps older versions of Live running on newer OSes). That is made possible by two things 1) Ableton is more expensive, much more widely used, and thus has more money to pay a larger team and 2) other programs that need updates to keep running on newer OSes are much, much less complicated than Audulus is.
Putting time and energy into maintaining Audulus 3 indefinitely into the future is actually taking time and energy from the people who are paying now for Audulus 4 who expect timely bugfixes and a steady stream of updates.
The reason we don't do a bundle is there isn't a way to exclusively extend this discount to loyal users - we would if we could! That said, I think our most loyal users also follow how much work goes into making Audulus and understand that for it to keep existing, people have to keep wanting to purchase it.
By the way a lot of people here and elsewhere talk about apps sometimes as cynical money grabs, man, I wish you could see the numbers that music iOS apps bring in. Think about all the time and energy it takes to make an app - if anyone wanted to make a lot of money, do you think they'd choose this tiny niche market to do it in? I think almost without exception any programmer who is skilled enough to create an iOS music app could create a different app (or at least work for another bigger app) that would make them more money. Few iOS music apps have more than one person working on an app full time - even Taylor, the creator of Audulus, doesn't work on Audulus full time.
That's all to say that this is a labor of love. It's not something we can afford to do completely for free, and throwing $20 for what is, quite honestly, not only one of the most powerful synthesizer apps on iOS, but also one of the largest updates from one version to the next, is a pretty small ask if I do say so myself. Not to mention now we have a freemium version where you can try before you buy - what's not to like about that?
I apologize for my ignorance. I thought if it was gone for purchase it was gone period.
My point about the bundle stands.
Thank you - and again, we would offer a discount if it were possible to offer it to just the people who've bought Audulus 3, but that's not viable. If this is a feature you want to see more apps using, I would suggest telling Apple about it since they have control over this.
I get your points and I apologize for being overly negative about the upgrade policy. I will not upgrade because it’s not worth it to me. I hope you do well with Audulus 4.
Update to v4.0.4! Several bugfixes for iOS included as well!

New tutorial series for those interested in creating your own interface with Lua and the Canvas node!
I just noticed that Audulus 4 AU is broken in AUM (it works in Cubasis, and in Drambo but not showing the icon). Maybe it is something more related with AUM than Audulus?
Anyone else having the same issue?
Would you mind describing what you mean by "broken"? Thanks!
Sorry, my bad.. it´s showing a red cross instead of the app icon.. so it looks like it crashed
I use Audulus in AUM and haven't run into that. Have you tried rebooting?

I just tried, but the issue is still there. Weird.

Have you purchased Audulus? Btw, this might be easier to troubleshoot in the Discord - are you on there?
https://discord.gg/aPkQtDWfUP
I´m not.. and yes, I purchased the full version a week ago, I had installed the beta version before
Have you double-checked that you have the purchased version installed? I think you'd see what you're seeing if you had an expired beta installed. If you go to the App Store and see a cloud icon instead of "Open" then that's it.
No, I have the appstore version installed, it says "open". Also, i checked in testflight and it is not showing up, not even in the expired section.
Maybe try offloading and then re-downloading the app? Or uninstall and re-install?
Just in case there was an app store glitch (which has happened to me with other IAPs), you might see if restore purchases has an impact.
I´ll try both things. Thankss
Yeah, I remember that weird glitch.. but I bought the IAP after the glitch was solved
Is not a super relevant issue tho
@Audulus_Mark, the icon is now showing up after updating to the last version 🙌🏼
Hey just curious, does the ability to use the app as an AU in AUM/Audiobus require the IAP as well? I’ve been playing with it a lot in standalone lately and just noticed I couldn’t load it into AUM. Definitely plan on buying it soon, just can’t right away. Really great/great sounding app tho!
I believe so.
Thanks! I figured that was the case.

That looks very interesting, I love me a bit of real time node graphics, I did some lovely work with Henrik Schwartz and the Metropole Orchestra a few years back using blender nodes to interpret the music they were playing that he’d used generative scripts to write; a bit full circle via dozens of humans robot styling…
Hi @Audulus_Mark and others … as part of a possible purchase decision, I’ve installed the Audulus 4 free trial to have a play, but I can’t find any patches that make any sound apart from one of the demo ones which makes a kind of rhythmic white noise.
Some appear to be synths etc but as AUv3 is disabled and there doesn’t seem to be IAA, I can’t find a way to route MIDI to it. I tried in AUM using the usual method but still no luck.
Am I missing something … is there some way to demo it?
Thanks for your question! You're not missing anything - basically Audulus in "demo" mode can open and play patches, but you can't really create anything - you're only able to use a patch someone else has created.
That said, you have the entire Audulus forum's worth of patches and demo patches to comb through:
https://forum.audulus.com/
For example, this:
https://forum.audulus.com/t/cocoquantus/3254/9
Anything you see there you can download and open in the freemium version and play around with. Hope that helps!
Hi Mark … thanks for your quick response!
I think my message was badly worded … by “missing anything” i was thinking more about whether I had overlooked some way of sending MIDI to Audulus 4 demo, rather than wondering what features the demo was missing compared to full version.
I’ll check out some of the forum patches thanks.
One thing i would really like to build, is a custom arpeggiator that goes beyond all the usual features, and offers such things as per-step probability etc.
Would Audulus 4 allow me to create this sort of MIDI device, with the kind of low level access to affect e.g. how the arp selects the next step?
Sorry I wasn't more specific - you'd have to have a patch that's already got a MIDI input ready to go. Here is a simple patch that you can try - I just threw this together quickly in Audulus.
