Audulus has been working fine on my iPad, but despite having downloaded it, I hadn’t run it on my MacBook. Tried it today, and it just takes me to an open file dialog. I deleted the app and downloaded again, but it still does it.

    Is this a known issue?

You might want to query on the Audulus Discord . I don’t know if they are watching AB forum carefully. @Audulus_Mark has a new kid and probably not checking in here very often.

Thanks. I just posted it there, so I’ll see if someone has an answer.

  • Hi

    Does Audulus have an arpeggiator?

An arpeggiator that has a chord note programming ?

That means be able to determine which note number from the chord to be played in each step.

If you already purchased the permanent unlock , it will stay fully unlocked according to the dev.

Where did you see that? I certainly hope it doesn’t mean that I have to pay again for what I already have…

But existing owners of the current version excepted, going forward subscription will be the only option?

That sucks. This will probably be the last version I buy then.

I think it is an indication that the pay once forever model doesn’t provide revenue to justify the time required to develop and maintain an app that requires a lot of expertise to develop and whose potential market is small.

He certainly would not have made the change otherwise.

  • When you think about the cost of MAX/MSP , $30 a year doesn’t seem outrageous to me.

It probably doesn’t, but it’s not the cost to support developers that I mind, it’s being pinned down to paying on a schedule like it’s a utility bill, and knowing that if I don’t use it for a month that I paid for something I didn’t use.

I’d rather just see an increase in the one-time payment so I determine the schedule for spending my money.

The thing is that just raising the price isn't a solution either. Because the issue is that the app requires ongoing care and maintenance. And it requires a fair amount of work to create a system like Michael has for Loopy Pro -- and the potential market for Audulus is so small that putting a lot of effort to implement it probably doesn't make financial sense.

If it's an app you'd only use sporadically, you can purchase month-by-month simply enough.

Time will tell if it works out well for him. No matter what model he chooses, some people will be unhappy -- so for him (or any other developer) they kind of have to figure out who their core audience is and what their personal threshold for cost/benefit is.

i saw that in the appstore.

so i can use the "full feature set" whatever that is, after updating and no subscr. necessary.
    who's to ping here, developer

Yep! Those who bought the previous IAP have a permanent unlock. Thanks for your support!

  • edited December 2023

    Never mind.

  • Glad I have the full unlock already. I worry that every major app is gonna move to a subscription model eventually and then we’ll all have 50 subscriptions we’re paying for every month. I hope now.

I really think the Loopy Pro/Wotja/Mela models are the best for this kind of thing.

Best of luck to you @Taylor. I hope that the subscription model proves successful for you.

  • After the latest Update, Audulus 4 will not start on my any of my iPads (M2 and A12X processor, latest iPadOS).
    Just a black screen.
Audulus still works on my M2 Mac Mini

  • I had to delete and reinstall Audulus. After that it works again.

  • I guess it was a hard decision for the developer, and I will always respect that. But, at the end of the day, what I can and cannot afford is entirely up to me.

I never intended to use Audulus as the main music-making software, it was reserved for rare idea constructions and my love for visual node programming. And I still have big plans for Audulus, probably unrealistic but enough to participate in the community and spread the love.

What will happen now? I can’t afford a subscription, and "unlock" will probably fade away in a few years, if not sooner. So for those experimentation ideas, I will use a more financially safe and affordable product like miRack. Unfortunately, I’m not the target market for Audulus any more (probably never was), and I’m still not blaming the developer's decision. I wish them all the luck in the world, and I will continue to spread goodwill and suggest others for this fantastic and unique app. 🤩

I love the grandfathering element!! If you didn’t support it prior to this change it makes sense that if you want it now you abide by the new rules. This has the OVI stamp of approval.

Am I getting this right? Watch me put my foot in my mouth if I am not….

  • @Taylor in AUv3 there is a gray area in upper left that, if pressed, crashes the plugin

  • Any chance we can have MIDI Output from the AUv3 in 2024?

I would like to have a visual MIDI construction kit.

[sorry for crosspost from subscription thread]

  • I wish I could still buy remaining IAP for my Audulus 2 cause its the only one I have on my ios10 ipad =/
