  • @WMWM What do you mean by an assignable one?

  • It may be a silly request but a way to set a bpm to modulate to. So say 120 is either tapped or directly entered. A bpm button in each of the tabs that can be activated to the set bpm and the sliders become multiples of the bpm. When its is deactivated controlls are returned to their free wheeling state. As an example, im locked in to a bpm on say the ocilator page and the amp page on the rate and volume. I am now moving with the groove, i reach a point where it's Ondes time to shine, I can deactivate the sync and can now freely move the sound, and when the 7 mintue Ondes solo is ending a touch of the Bpm will pull me back the the groove, it would be neat if that could be abrut change or a gradual one.

One users case scenario, others users may not find this handy in the way they use Ondes.

This app is great and epitomizes the real value of an ipad which is an expressive touch surface. My PC is stronger than an ipad, my laptop is just as portable (and stronger), but I could not play Ondes properly with a mouse or midi keyboard.

Geo Synthesizer and Cantor also can transmit channel per note MIDI data. Thumbjam and iFretless also receive channel per note MIDI. The reason it's not a problem with apps/synths that don't cope with it is that it's implemented as an option that you have to enable, the normal mode is the same as most apps, all notes on the channel selected. The Linnstrument is about to make this scheme available in hardware.

So you could have a linnstrument just hooked up to an iPad running thumbjam standalone! That is awesome :D

    thank you for that info.

  • ok, well, I guess you've all convinced me I should consider it regardless of my rant!

  • @benkamen: ScaleGen also transmits one note per channel with pitchbend for microtones. The channel range is adjustable in the MIDI settings.

  • @j_liljedahl, cool I will look at your implementation for inspiration. Beautiful job by the way!

  • @WMWM Well I def want to hear your 7 minute Ondes solo...

  • Lol, touché, I guess as with my requests, these things take time.

  • After watching this app for some time (as evidenced by my August posts above), I did buy the app last night. Wasn't too sure I had a use for it, but it's a small file size and like what Ben did with the design and everything.

Anyway, my first impressions were generally pretty good. The thing that would keep me coming back to it is the sound design aspect to it. There are "enough" presets to get you started, though I would like more. Of course, I can't remember ever seeing a synth app and wishing for less presets. :)

I would second @WMMW's request for BPM sync'ing on the oscillators/filters. You're seeing that more and more with iOS apps, fueled by their prominence in dubstep. The Y-axis modification works great, and it's nice to have the full spectrum of control. But just as you can control the degree of "snap" on x-axis pitch control, it would also be nice to have it "snap" on the y-axis to different oscillation rates relative to the BPM. This isn't meant as an "urgent" complaint or criticism by any means, just a suggestion for future updates.

  • I really like the suggestions about beat sync and will see if I can fit some version of that in. I have a bunch of new features in progress, I'm hoping to get them add polished up and tested within a month or two.

  • I just wanted to take back what I said about MIDI! I've been working on it today, and I think it's gonna work out! Ondes MIDI Out -> Sunrizer :)) Super fun.

  • Great news Ben. Thanks.

  • Keep at it Mister Ben.

  • One of the good devs out there, as evidenced by this thread. Thanks for doing what you do, Ben.

  • That's great, Ben! The interface is pretty great, so there's some potential there.

Would there be mapping for y-axis sliding to an external control (like volume, filter, etc.) through MIDI?

  • I haven't tried yet but I am thinking there will be map y to volume and map y to mod wheel as options.

    Hiya,
I'm doing a test flight of Ondes v1.1 now. If you are interested in testing out new features (MIDI, swarm oscillators, hold button, tunings, scales, all kinds of stuff!) send me an email at support at olympianoiseco and i'll invite you. I think apple's test flight is for iOS8 only, though.

  • It's looking pretty damn good so far.

  • sounds really good the upcoming stuff!

  • Here's a second blog post about some of the new features... (the first is linked in there...)

What's new in Ondes 1.1 : Hold, Scales, Tuning Systems, and More | Blog | Olympia Noise Co. http://www.olympianoiseco.com/blog/whats-new-in-ondes-1.1-hold-scales-tuning-systems-and-more/

  • These look like great additions! I'm very happy to see the inclusion of guide snapping, and the swarm feature sounds interesting. Has 1.1 been submitted to Apple already, or is all this still in dev?

  • It's being beta tested right now. I have a handful of bugs, mostly related to iOS8, to fix and should hopefully submit next week.

  • This is a go to app for me these days. Can't wait for the new features.
