Ah, great idea. That could work, thanks.
The way you describe it in the AppStore, it kinda sounds like the main Alphabet and numbers 0-9 are auto mapped, and you can custom map anything else, like emojis and punctuation, etc.
It actually made me kinda ‘meh’.
But now that you have cleared that up, here in this thread, I am certainly going to get this. It is exactly what I was hoping for.
I suggest you make it very clear on the AppStore description that this is what you can really do. Map any character to custom note.
Well, almost perfect -
Now having created my own map I found that upper case letters are mapped separately from lower case which requires me to have to map the letters twice. A tedious operation. It seems that you'd more likely like to keep upper and lower case mapped to the same notes. I guess I could change the octaves but then I'd like to try out other things too.
and so:
Also, flustered because I can't seem to find a way to make more than one custom mapped alphabet. And now that I've made mine, I don't see any way to get back to a "non-custom" version which would be nice. (outside of just deleting the whole custom map.
It seems like it needs some kind of map containers for holding different custom maps.
@Stochastically I assumed you could just save them as AUM presets. I guess not.
Character maps are global, they are applied on both standalone and auv3 apps, between all patterns/presets.
Loving Textquencer! Perfect for an upcoming project of mine involving improvised music and poetry. @cem_olcay please add “slower” time divisions as 2:1, 4:1 and even 8:1!
Ps happy new year!
I second that!
Thirded
The new version is live. It fixes a sequencer bug happening when you bypass the plugin (thanks to @Gavinski )
Also adds an “all caps” option on the custom mapping for mapping both lowercase and uppercase letters.
Increases octave range from 0-8 to (-1)-9.
I'm really liking this app! - but I'm still hoping that in the future I can save and store (and maybe even share?) different character map sets instead of having to erase 52 maps just to try something different - and then maybe I won't like it and I'll have to re-do 52 new maps again.
Please, please @cem_olcay think about this.
I would love this too.
If it never happens, I will be on the quest to build the one perfect map set, I suppose.
That’s pretty interesting to me, as well.
Don’t miss the @thesoundtestroom and @Jadestar streams tonight!
Great app. Lots of fun. Hope it does well for you.
The new version is live! This version downloads a random quote when you create a new pattern or a new instance. You can toggle off this feature from the settings menu. The new version also fixes the custom character mapping issues.
I would like it to use the camera so I can snap a picture of random text when I’m out and about, have it transcribe the text from the photo.
Does anyone interested in custom fonts for Textquencer? I've got a few requests for monospaced fonts, but I'm not sure if it'd worth to add that feature.
I want a word as a chord mode lol> @cem_olcay said:
That’s cool
I don’t need that.
An interpreter might be interesting, though.
It would be a cool way to explore variations.
But again, I could already use any existing interpreter. Seems like any word processing features would be redundant and a waste of your time and effort.
This app makes music from text. It is not an app for word processing.
@cem_olcay im curious… can you use custom characters to sustain a note, or cut it short. It would be amazing if you could use a character to sustain the note for a set amount of steps, or alter the timing.
Say you have it set on 1/8 speed, could you create a special character that makes that note sustain, ie. play 2 steps of the 1/8, essentially a 1/4. If it has that I’m getting it immediately. Maybe you could have a character that changed the timing of just that step, from the designated amount. So if you say 2x it plays 2 steps of a 1/8, or a .5x and it plays a 1/16 step, half the 1/8th sequencer setting. is that even possible. If so I’m buying it immediately.
Or a way to make a step ‘letter’ a dotted or triplet step when the sequence is on normal time.
You can use midiGATEs or Cality?
Yea that’s true, I did consider those options, I have both. TQ is the only bud app I don’t have, so it’s only a matter of time. Lol. I was just curious how much flexibility you had with the timing of the notes, I do think a sustain function would be awesome, so you can have a note sustain for multiple steps or whatever.
Also can you use the custom characters to send chords (ie ¥ is a C Major) or is it only monophonic midi out? Thanks.
At least a few font options might be cool since Everyone has their personal preference. Custom might be cool, but no necessarily something I would use. I could see some font options being helpful.
What I would like to do, to have more rhythmical freedom is trigger the next step with a midi note (ignoring pitch, using noteon and -off), instead of the fixed timing, might be cool if a note that is still held would sustain, but a second note that's triggered would still play for random chords. Would be cool to trigger them manually or put some sequencer in front, one of the buds maybe
@cem_olcay would you consider that?
I integrated Chat GPT in Textquencer as an experiment. You can use Chat GPT on your browser and then copy/paste the result in Textquencer - but using it directly inside the app is super cool
I won't release this version because Open AI charges you every time you use the API. I need to sell tokens with in-app purchases which is an instant turn off for the 99% of the people.
But I'd like to hear your thoughts anyways. BTW it might be the first iOS plugin using Chat GPT
Self explanatory: 🤓
I like that idea:)
OMG that's very chaotic 😂

Y..ea_h_ chaotic in.d.eed! 😂
So, I guess no one cares about AI here?
Imho better make a separate app for Chat GPT, please don’t kill the simplicity of Textquencer.
