I’m in the UK and don’t know about US house wiring but I would try the following …

If the wall socket has a switch (this is common in the UK) is it switched on?
If yes, does the modem have a power switch and is it switched on?
If yes, or don’t know, does the mains plug have a fuse and is it still OK?

Have you tried plugging the modem into a different socket in another room, in case it’s a fault with the wall socket?
Are you able to try a different cable between the modem and wall socket?
Was there a storm in the area that could have caused a power surge and killed your modem?

Apologies if all these are just stating the obvious for you. I hope you get it sorted soon.

Edit:- One extra long shot… Have you checked to see if your internet provider is providing a normal service?

Thanks so much for the rundown. I have tried/considered all of these, no apologies necessary, sometimes we forget the obvious.

It is just my modem, internet is fine in the area. I have a technician coming out tomorrow.

The only thing I haven’t tried is using a different cable, have to find one.

  • A different power adapter? It might be the problem, but probably not. A switching mode power supply with an external brick, like a laptop, can fail and is easy (but not always cheap) to replace.

But a modem, and anything with a wall wart, seems to have the device fail more than the power cable…because the vulnerable components are inside the device.

I’d just wait until the technician comes. And I was just spitballing a lot of hypothetical conclusions about your situation, but these various devices tend to follow these patterns.

Yea that’s the plan, I don’t want to fry it with the wrong cable. Thanks for the heads up.

I wasn’t aware that Missouri was pronounced Misery 🥴🥴🥴

Had a good friend for Louisiana that said it was pronounced “Lousy Anna”
