    This one. Why be limited to a predetermined library of patches/samples, when you can use literally anything at all.

    I voted for KMP but my real favourite (if allowed as a ‘rompler’!) is KQ Sampei plus my collection of soundfonts. These are mainly those I bought from DigitalSoundFactory, plus sets that I created myself from various desktop synths and romplers. Using soundfonts means I get to keep the sounds forever and the ability to play them exists across all my Mac, iOS and Android (via AudioEvolutionMobile) devices. I can also easily convert them to other formats such as DirectWave, if needed.

    definitely decent sampler

  • Korg iWAVESTATION

  • None actually, I don't want apps that need a huge library with samples that fills my Ipad drive.

    And is a sampler with huge sample banks the same as a Rompler? I used to own a MC-505 with a JV-1080 engine, and that synth just had digitized waveforms for the oscillator (which is pure crap, tiny bleak sound, can't stand it....).

  • Gadget plus a nice collection of REX loops for Stockholm.
    Not saying that BeatHawk or PureSynth were any bad, it's just the great integration (and straightforward automation) that keeps me sticking with Gadget for composing from scratch.

    Can’t disagree. IAA stuff is still my favorites: iGrand/iLectric, IM-1, iPolysix, that Gadget thing…

  • Decent Sampler.

  • Audiolayer - BYOS. Bring your own samples.

  • I’m really loving Lo-fi Tape- always ending making something when that is loaded in AUM

  • ThumbJam is my real desert island answer (if it meets the criteria). I use PSP and BH but they really fill different needs, haven't really messed with Module lately.

    Also would like to offer a shout-out to the TAQS.IM World Synth.

    True. And then Gadget has had it for breakfast :#

    Pure Synth Platinum is awesome, but even better with cross grades: BASSalicious 1 and 2, Neo Soul Keys etc… Creamosphere is a fantastic in-app purchase for pads and textures. I love PSP because the sounds already got that homemade, special sauce on them - very inspiring!

  • So many great answers here. :) Seems Pure Synth Platinum has taken the lead out of the named romplers in the poll, and I went ham on buying all the IAPs in it. Now I'm working on an 8-bit styled "boy band"-styled beat mostly using PSP2 as my main sound source as honesty I just don't feel like making my own sounds from scratch much anymore in Obsidian or other synths.

    So I did vote in my own poll for PSP2, although I also love using Beathawk and Module Pro. The "Ratched 808s" IAP alone is worth purchasing PSP2 if you produce any genre of Hip Hop, but being able to tweak the onboard effects of any preset is a massive bonus!

    I just used that synth on my latest track "Ocean Drive at Night" for my upcoming untitled EP. 😃 My first attempt at Synthwave and it turned out spectacular!

    @sevenape and @emjay too.

    This was the app I was looking for! 😂 I recognise it by its GUI, lol. (This was one of my ulterior motives for making this thread, lol.) I won't be able to purchase all the IAPs right now in it, but I've been looking for this one to use in Lofi, once I return to Lofi Hip Hop.

    I absolutely love iM1 and I wish Korg would give it an AUv3 upgrade, even if I had to pay a one-time IAP for the functionality. The theme of Seinfeld was entirely created on an original hardware M1, which was performed before each episode. At least we can use iM1 as IAA in AUM.

    I forgot I had KQ Sampei! 😂 I have a whole slew of Soundfonts just waiting to be noticed, especially the world ones from www.dskmusic.com . :)

    (Short story time - each time I buy a new iDevice, I usually just purchase the DSK soundfonts all over again rather than try to airdrop them in order to give him financial support. A great set of sounds.)

    AEM is such an awesome beast of an app. Now with its vocal editor, it's pretty much the complete package. I'm still learning to use it thanks to inspiration from @ipadbeatmaking 's "AEM vs CB3 Comparison" video, but I'm learning it slowly given I'm in the midst of producing another EP, lol.

    But yes, KMP is a great app! :) Endless IAPs chock full of quality sounds ready to be inserted into a track.

    @R_2 also.

    I've never gotten much use out of iWavestation sadly, but it is very powerful. I honestly should use it on a new Ambient production. I just record something via IAA into AUM, commit it to audio, then loop it in the main Ambient project in AUM.

    That's true. Some of these rompler apps suck up a LOT of space, and if your device doesn't have at least 512 gb, it can suck up most of the space on your device. And if you're a hobbyist, a rompler may not be right for you.

    And is a sampler with huge sample banks the same as a Rompler? I used to own a MC-505 with a JV-1080 engine, and that synth just had digitized waveforms for the oscillator (which is pure crap, tiny bleak sound, can't stand it....).

    That seems awful. Then again, some of the sounds from the JV-1080 have become staples in 90s EDM like this.

    Your mileage may vary.

    @NoiseHorse also.

    Does Gadget actually count as a rompler though? :) Gadget to me seems more like a virtual studio full of synths and romplers. When I was watching that BT video the other day, I kept on thinking to myself "I have a studio like that in my pocket made by Korg". 😂

    But I can't disagree in that Gadget has great integration and straightforward automation. It's a lot of fun to use and has that warm rounded "Korg sound" to it that I like!

    I've used Audiolayer before, and it's fun if you like to set up your own presets from your own sample sets. Me, I like romplers better given I can quickly access sounds and focus more on the music.

    I just purchased this one while typing all this out, lol. $3 for the base app, $5 for the presets expansion. Well done!

    Not sure if Thumbjam meets the criteria, but honestly it's such a great app. @sonosaurus knocked that one out of the park!

    Also would like to offer a shout-out to the TAQS.IM World Synth.

    I looked for the World Synth in the appstore and couldn't find it. Looks like it was renamed to "World Piano". I just purchased "Lifetime Access" for $30 on sale. The subscription is optional, which is cool (although if it were subscription only, I wouldn't complain as it'd be one of those apps worth paying monthly for).

    Absolutely the best drum rompler on iOS! That and PSP2 go great together.

    I love Creamosphere! I'm using a patch from it in my current in-progress track, and I applied lofi distortion in the IFX section to help it fit the 8-bit sound I'm going for. ;)

  • Assuming it is a rompler, Retro Piano. It’s fantastic.

  • Which rompler can I eat after the food runs out on this island? :)

  • Garageband or gadget for me

    According to @Stuntman_mike , Pure Synth Platinum. He mentioned it has "homemade special sauce". 😂 It must taste good then.

    Garageband definitely has a lot of great choices for samples as does Gadget, but aren't they closer to DAWs mate? :)

  • I have deleted most of my big space sucking apps, including almost all the Gospel musicians stuff, despite how excellent the sounds are, and even - temporarily only for sure - Pure Piano and Upright Piano. I have so many apps at this point that I just don't have the space for huge amounts of samples. Sampletron might be next to go. Physical modeling is the future.

    It’s my preference also. The more powerful the computing, the more accurate are the physical models.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic don’t buy the nstruments (unless you like them) download hundreds of free and unique and amazing sounding instruments for free from pianobook.co.uk!

    Yep, that's really the only epiano I need, if I want variety in the soybd5i have plenty of fx for that 🤷‍♂️

    @Gavinski : How much memory do you have in your iPad ? 256 gig, I’m guessing?
