I have deleted most of my big space sucking apps, including almost all the Gospel musicians stuff, despite how excellent the sounds are, and even - temporarily only for sure - Pure Piano and Upright Piano. I have so many apps at this point that I just don't have the space for huge amounts of samples. Sampletron might be next to go. Physical modeling is the future.

@Gavinski : How much memory do you have in your iPad ? 256 gig, I’m guessing?

I'd need to check, think so, might even be a step up from that but I forget. Next one will definitely be 1tb minimum

  • The gospel musicians stuff has the sounds I’m always wanting plus psp has all its synthesis too so I can usually get anything I need with psp. Splat 2 clat is pretty perfect for drum samples too.

  • Yep definitely splat is one I won't be deleting

  • edited January 2023

    Crying in 64GB here
Doing my january cleanup to see what has no use (add hundreds of small apps and they amount to considerable pile)

Next is a cleanup of my internal BM3 library. it's 6GB already

Edit: all that being said. Sampletank was always one I liked, but is currently offloaded for storage space

  • @jwmmakerofmusic yea the Pure Sine and Upright IAPs in PSP are my fav

Assuming it is a rompler, Retro Piano. It’s fantastic.

I'll look into it. Only 4 quid. :)

Which rompler can I eat after the food runs out on this island? :)

According to @Stuntman_mike , Pure Synth Platinum. He mentioned it has "homemade special sauce". 😂 It must taste good then.

    Garageband or gadget for me

Garageband definitely has a lot of great choices for samples as does Gadget, but aren't they closer to DAWs mate? :)

Yea garageband is kinda like a lightweight Daw on the side…but I really don’t consider gadget a Daw at all. These are my choices. Hahahahaa…. Everything else is unappealing to me except perhaps beathawk…which has really good sounds too.

You mean like the SWAM instruments? Those apps are so expensive that it'd take me a while to collect them all, lol.

I'd need to check, think so, might even be a step up from that but I forget. Next one will definitely be 1tb minimum

Or at least 512gb like my M1 iPad Pro is. Then again, my next Apple purchase will be an iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1tb space. Need a more powerful battery and more space for on-the-go producing.

Good. 😎 Splat makes most of my drum sample packs obsolete, lol.

@jwmmakerofmusic don’t buy the nstruments (unless you like them) download hundreds of free and unique and amazing sounding instruments for free from pianobook.co.uk!

Holy shit! 🤯 This site has many, many packs for Decent Sampler. DS will be the next app I explore for sure when I have time! Any tips on installing the packs into DS?

🤣 Lol. Yeah, I added it to the list in case there's someone out there who still swears by it.

I honestly hope @GospelMusicians makes Splat-to-Clat universal. 🙏 It's great for drum samples, but the samples it comes with are honestly mindblowing and sound so damn good.

One of these days mate, you should definitely purchase a new device with at least 512gb storage if not more. ;) Doesn't have to be the biggest and baddest M2 iPad Pro. I use an M1 iPad Pro 12.9" and it serves me very well. I imagine that once I get an iPhone 14 Pro Max with 1TB storage, my M1 will become my main sheet music reader and art tablet.

I love these IAPs too. I went on a purchasing spree and purchased all IAPs in PSP to support @GospelMusicians as well as a few of the other romplers and apps mentioned here. I also got the Taqs.im Synth Pro and World Piano (formerly World Synth). Both have lifetime unlocks, not just subscription models. Just amazing sounds! I also purchased the other synths and romplers AudioKit had as they are having a New Year's sale. And I plan to purchase Saga as soon as that's released too.

@bygjohn You weren't wrong. Retro Piano is a gem for Lofi tracks!

It seems I can make my music much quicker with romplers than by trying to build patches from scratch. I have deep knowledge of synthesis and can evoke any sound I imagine (which is why I absolutely love Obsidian), but honestly I just want to cut through the twaddle and get straight into the music itself. These romplers have been nothing but perfection.

i have an 256gb iphone xs max with every daw, every auv3 and every IAP that comes with, plus it also has almost my last 3 years worth of full beats projects, probably around 500 beats also a whole collection of drumkits, fx and samples for most genres and i still have around 50 gb left of free space, and because of that instead of deleting any of my apps or any project i just bought me and iphone 13 pro max with also 256gb of storage, in which i also install and downloaded, every daw, auv3 and drumkits ect, into it, and it only took away 55 gb of space which leaves me with 201gb of free space to work with, which means like 3 more year of nonstop music production, basically i rather buy a new device then erasing anything from it, because i think of my iphone as my complete mobile work station, and deleting any app will mean downgrading my work station,
i just like having my work station always ready with every tool possible, ready for any music project that i get started, and if i actually need to make storage space on any of my device all i need to do is just save my music projects to an external storage, and by doing that it will get back most of the storage space that i will ever need for 2 or 3 more years to come !

That's actually solid advice! Me, I'm the same way, with wanting every tool in my toolbelt at the ready for any music project I start and finish. I didn't think to use external storage, lol. (Then again, I'm dumb. 🤪 Joking, lol.)

iPad prices here in Brazil are kind of absurd as of now... but maybe in a new future.
The good thing about a tight storage is that I try to keep only what I use.

My android phone for example has loads more storage. And its got loads of stuff I barely or never use

If I buy a new device and want it to be better than my old one, its gonna have to be a new Pro and I won't get less than a TB of space. That plus a new smart keyboard will cost me, in China, as much as or more than I make in a year from youtube lol. So I'll be trying to make my current 256 GB iPad Pro 3rd gen last as long as possible. Deleting apps is not a biggie for me - I already have far more than I can realistically use, and the vast majority I never touch.

LOL! Then again, I used to use Android and had a bunch of stuff I never used due to its horrible latency (even with wired headphones!). If I were to get an Android phone, I'd get FLSM, Koala, and Cubasis. Would pretty much cover my basic needs. But, I'm saving for an iPhone 14 Pro Max 1TB.

I like to treat it as a stem machine
I use chordbot, beatonal, flsm, zenbeats, g-stomper, caustic, fractal bits, nanoloop, sunvox, pixitracker, yellofier, kaossilator, flip sampler, drc and a few others. But always send the tracks to Zenbeats and from there I can further work on my desktop or iOS, which is better

Ah plenty of great apps. I forgot Zenbeats and Sunvox are on Android, lol. Great apps! I miss Caustic dearly. Easiest modular synth on a mobile platform. I didn't realise Android has a nice selection of music apps. But, I don't wish to switch back to Android for my new phone. iPhone is just too convenient with its airdrop capabilities (for starters).

  • For music making, iPhone is the way to go indeed.

That was one of the reasons I started my 'app cleanup' long time ago.

I'm now on a 256GB 11" M1 iPadPro and with all the apps, custom samples and stuff I use I still have >200GB free...
With the NAS and Mac mounted as SMB-Shares I have access to all my files from the iPad directly from the Document Picker.

As for the apps you never touch, it's quite safe to enable automatic app offload.

In my experience so far, if an app isn't used (ie. Launched) or accessed (ie. AUv3 Extension use) in 3+ months it will be offloaded only if/when the device is starting to run out of space but as long as there's sufficient space on the device it will stay on the device.

I would personally just delete the apps I never touch, or at least launch them once and check if they still work or 'click' with the way I roll.(ie. is the UI 'usable' and does it provide something 'unique' that another apps can't do?).

    Cheers!

  • does anyone mention Syntronik in this thread? Why it is not more popular? As I saw it is huge collection with mixbox effects and loooooots of sounds
